can someone explain what the void realm is gonna be exactly?

i heard that on the halloween event (the 18th), there'll be a new game mode or something; there'll be no gens, hooks, pallets, gates, totems, the killers won't be able to use their power, etc but will still somehow be able to kill survivors. basically both sides will have to collect something called haunts that'll give us something, but it's all still so confusing. will we enter that void realm while being in a normal match or will it be an entire new limited game mode?
