Are There Any "Non-Meta" Perks You Enjoy?

In any online game, there is bound to be a meta, or most efficient tactic available. DBD has had it's own fair share of meta and non-meta perks. I find myself clinging more towards the non-meta perks just because there is a bit more diversity there for me to use, it feels like I can do a lot more with them.

  • For Killer: A Nurse's Calling, Blood Warden, Dark Devotion, Forced Hesitation, and Surveillance.
  • For Survivor: Balanced Landing, Self-Preservation, Autodidact, and Soul Guard.

To me this isn't meta. Recently been playing again after ditching the game for 3 years and the locker build is so fun, head on, q&q, flashbang and I add in resurgence. Resurgence is slept on honestly, I love that perk.

Last thing I wanna do is come back and sweat, but it's insane how many face camps and toxic messages I have received for running head on lmao

The best perks in this game imo are the free ones. The only character perk I use is prove Thyself. Everything else is garbage or situational imo.

Edit: for survivors this is. I'm too tired to think about killers at the moment.

Only non meta here! Free perks are the 👌for survivors. The only unlock able I use is prove Thyself 😌

As a survivor I also love me a locker build (Head On, Quick n Quiet), paired off with Blastmine and a flexible forth perk, often Deja Vu or Lightfooded.

As killers, I play all kinda perks, but one I really enjoy is Spies in the Shadows, and ironically it has taken quiete a hit dud go people playing Calm Spirits in order to counter UW. I really love how Spies gives me value every game and normally the survivors will never figure out why I sometimes got eyes in the back of my head.

    Honestly inner focus

It’s just a nice perk for having consistent killer auras

DBD would be in a better place if more people used Aftercare.

I think Aftercare could maybe use a buff to make it's proc condition a bit easier, but it's still a decent perk, I use it a bit.

Taken a real liking to Desperate Measures lately myself. Offsets Sloppy Butcher and becomes a pretty hefty bonus when everyone is injured. It's also a budget No One Left Behind when trying to unhook during EGC.

I could easily make a list of perks on both sides that are heavily slept on, some really great perks that see little usage for some reason.

For Killers: Thrilling Tremors (probably my most used perk), Hex Face the Darkness, Blood Echo, Gift of Pain, Surveillance, Oppression, Forced Hesitation, Monitor & Abuse, Trail of Torment.

Survivors: We'll make it, Flashbang, Dramaturgy, Plot Twist, Open-Handed, Parental Guidance, Pharmacy (just make it reveal chest auras pls), Reactive Healing, Troubleshooter, Any Means Necessary (that one is especially great info perk, it shows which pallets were used and where chases take place on top of resetting them).

Mad grit, and spies from the shadows.

Survivor: Open Handed and Bond. All the information you could ever need.

Killer: Lightborn, Shadowborn (I like not looking through a Pringles can for a change), Huntress' Lullaby and Zanshin Tactics (mostly on Doctor).

    Survivor:

I don't know if any of these are "meta" but Lucky Break, Lucky Star, Self-Care, Botany Knowledge, Smash Hit, Vigil and Lightweight are all personal favourites that I think are underrated (Botany especially so).

    Killer:

Lightborn and Iron Grasp are in pretty much all of my Killer builds. Sanity preserving perks that make playing Killer a less stressful and annoying experience for me.

Iron Grasp feels necessary if you want to use a controller to play Killer because it counteracts the wiggle effect. The aura reading from Lightborn can be useful and it's always funny to see a Survivor trying for that second or third time to blind me.

I also get so many free hits from Survivors trying to blind, body block and sabo. I think meta perks differ depending on each Killer power, though.

Fire up is great perk when you want to do chase builds (action speed) and I rly like the concept of this perk, even tho it's weak and not worth bringing if you care about winning.

I wish it was at least 5% per stack and it would include more actions like hooking animation, opening lockers, interacting with boons, etc.

As a randomizer, I can say most perks actually have some usage and can be fun. However, I have some favourites:

Killer: Agitation, Blood Echo, Call of Brine, Dark Devotion, Darkness Revealed, Forced Penance, Hex: The Third Seal, Scourge Hook: Floods of Rage, Spies from the Shadows, Trail of Torment.

Survivor: Ace in the Hole, Autodidact, Bite the Bullet, Blood Pact, Bond, Boon: Shadow Step, Chemical Trap, Dark Sense, Deja Vu, Diversion, Dramaturgy, Empathy, Fogwise, Friendly Competition, Inner Strength, Lightweight, No One Left Behind, Quick and Quiet, Reassurance, Scene Partner, Second Wind, Smash Hit, We'll Make It.

    Survivor: Flashbang

Incredibly useful and also difficult to use perk that allows you to turn un-safe loops into mindgames if used well.

    Killer: Forced Hesitation

Disgustingly underrated perk that allows you to chain downs together and heavily punishes survivors who try to body-block or farm hooks. Seriously, anyone reading this should pick up Nurse, Blight, Huntress, Oni, or Knight and use this perk. It can singlehandedly win you games!

I love lightweight and here's what I love about it. It doesn't seem that a lot of people use it which means killer mains don't complain about it 24/7 so it's likely going to stay as is for a long time. Having scratch marks vanish 5 seconds earlier than normal is crazy good IMO. But there's no cooldown, no requirement like needing to be injured, or token based. Just plug and play, you get value from it every second of the match.

    Troubleshooter, Circle of Healing

I don't know if Off the Record is meta or not but also that.

For killers, Enduring and Superior Anatomy.

Second Wind and Repressed Alliance. They have so much synergy with other perks + they counter killers in ways they don’t expect. It’s always funny to deny a Pop or punish a killer going for the easy tunnel.

I've been using Overcome and Lightweight lately and their strength is in the fact that it takes killers by surprise. They don't see it enough and don't expect it. I've been playing alot with literally only those two perks (my goal is to go perkless) and I find they give me a decent amount of chase value so I'm not completely useless to my team lol

    Dissolution.

Love playing loops against players who don't pay attention to it.

empathic connection + autodidact, sometimes works if teammates realize it.

Although nothing prevents getting healing skillchecks more than equipping autodidact...
