Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

What happened with the devs in charge for post launch balance?

I struggle to believe that the people who made the Billy changes this PTB were the same people who invented overheat in the first place and triple downed on it's existence.

They've taken a completely different stance on balancing add ons. Billy has ONE (1) bad add on that has no use, that being the counterweight. Compare that to old billy who had like what, 6/20 add ons to work with? Which is honestly being very generous.

I could not see the same devs who initally wanted engravings nerfed make these changes.

Whether it's new devs entirely, a change in mindset, or more experience, I like it. The last few killer reworks have been very nice, with skull merchant being my favourite killer in the game rn.

Staff changes and also the existence of MMR has probably allowed them to make a lot more informed decisions

keep in mind that this is PTB though. - If the Trickster is anything to go by my best guess is that their attitude toward PTB has changed. PTB is not the "fine tune" or "find bugs" stage but the "just throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" stage. In case of Billy: just give him all the add-ons and see what people like/hate the most, what is used most often and what is the most successful on PTB (probably rather in terms of a metric other than hooks/kills since people don't usually take PTB seriously in that regard).

To be fair, well skilled people never had issues with overheat while playing billy at all. In fact it just brought to light who was just revving chainsaws through loops with no other idea how to play and who actually mastered billy. Also billy with double engravings wasnt a good idea to begin with.

And the last reworks were fine? Trickster and especially skull merchant is still trash gameplay.

Wish we could get a answer on overheats very existance in the first place. As people have pointed out multiple times. They said the only problems with billy was addons. And he is "in a very good spot" yet they did all that? Something just doesnt add up. Its weird. The only insight i think we've gotten was mclean saying he didnt like the change. And that it was a change that came up in a table conversation. Passed around enough. Then ended up getting put in.

In his words "if it was up to me at the time. I wouldn't have done the overheat change"

It always weird yeah. If you nerf something for no reason, later you will have to work on them again to make them viable. Nerfing Billy was waste of time.

It's better to leave them or maybe very minor changes if they are in fine spot.

Its not that it had little effect, its that it made him incredibly unfun and had literally zero reason to be in the game since it served no benefit. Yet for some reason someone thought to keep it in the game until now.

Also trickster and SM reworks were a W other than some small QOL changes that need doing.

Billy has a lot more than 1 bad addon on the PTB. Some are undertuned and others have no possible use (Discarded Air Filter and High Speed Idler Screw come to mind). His addons are a lot better than they used to, but that isn't a high bar.

The inital overheat mechanic was terrible all around. It really held this killer back on all levels of play. The only people that weren't affected were the ones, who would only use it to back revv. If you actually wanted to curve (and keep the chainsaw revved while mind gaming) it definitely came into play.

The last 2 versions weren't much of an issue but it was still annoying, that it was there to begin with. Double Engravings Billy was more fun than anything else. It wasn't the strongest combination of addons he could use (that goes to Doom Engravings + LoPro Chains) but it was one of the few reliably good combinations of addons that he had. Most of his addons on live are pretty bad, so you won't use them.

1: People cycle in and out of any company. There might be a few big devs, but there are hundreds of people at BHVR.

2: The live service model is all about change. Moving things in and out of the meta. It's not about getting the game/killers to some perfect balanced state, but to keep things continually changing.

3: The devs, while slow, do generally take the pulse of the player base.

Whatever happened, it is much appreciated.

Two great mistakes, Billy's nerf and Onryo's rework, got fixed in a single patch and that is awesome!

The willingness to revert things is finally here, and I sincerely hope the treatment extends to Freddy.
