Having my dbd canon event and dropping the game
Things were pretty chill until I was watching the stream. I was SO hyped to see Lights Out and the fact it was more than just "hehehe darkness". All of my excitement faded into disappointment and genuine anger when I found out that it would only stay for a week and then be gone. You're telling me we've been waiting 7 years and can't have this as a permanent other mode until we can rotate it with a new mode? Even worse, we can't play it in CUSTOM? To me, the devs dropped the ball and I know that by not buying their stuff and not playing the game just on my own isn't going to amount to anything which is why I'm speaking on this publicly. I'd like for people to not allow stuff like this to happen and just be complacent with it. These are simple adjustments which they can't be bothered to do and it's pissing me off. I don't hate the game. I'm only against the thought process of only including the mode for a week and then never again when we won't have a new mode for another few months afterwards.

Having it, or any other game mode like it, as permanent will only split the player base and make queue times for the entire game crazy long.

1. It should stay for more than a week. A month would be better.
2. It should stay in custom mode after the event.
3. If it will be a success, it should come back sometime.

I also think this is an experiment to see what happens when multiple game modes exist at the same time.
Also, is anyone actually excited about this event? It sounds like a broken mess. SWFs using voice comms to coordinate flashlight saves sounds obnoxious enough that I’d rather just skip the whole event as killer. The game mode is so dark that it’s not practical to search the area for flashlights, and SWFs can use voice comms to alert each other when they are being picked up, which allows flashlight saves even if the flashlight user can’t see the killer while they are hiding.

They are probably testing the formula, to see if it works or not. I also think this is why they start with that kind of gamemod and not straight with a 2 vs 8 : it simpler to do, while letting devs test how sucessful it can be.
1 week is really short, but if it work, we can expect it to come back, with better tweaks to make it better.
I'm OK with it, something short is still better than nothing, plus it kinda give the old DBD vibe with darker maps, filled with fog.

You can't bring any items in, you can only search chests in game, and visibility is restricted to like 4m. Good luck to anyone who can navigate that well enough to get a flashlight save

Regardless, it's dumb that it can't be accessed in custom as a separate thing. That's my biggest gripe with it.

Flashlight saving distance should have also been reduced, so that SWFs can’t use voice comms to bypass the game mode’s visibility changes.

It's okay brother, take many months off. I had to take an 11 month break from the game before I even got a spark of enjoyment from the game again.

Considering how long it took for Billy's overheat mechanic to be changed because "it took a long time to make", I doubt this'll last just a single week. More likely they'll reuse it.

The one week is upsetting personally as it is the week I will be unable to play due to work and away from home.

honestly feeling that way too. if i have boring games today when playing for the rift i'm just taking a break, this game is losing its interest and soul and they're back to doing the bare minimum again for content. no cool events anymore or anything. it's just meaningless grind after meaningless grind and it's so soulless

I think it being a week only makes sense once they revealed that there's no loadouts. DBD with no loadouts gets boring fast. There's also only 4 maps available. Killers that need line of sight for range are going to be frustrating.

Kinda like prop hunt in COD. Its a silly but brilliant party game that they would add for a week or so, then take it away, oniy to add it again at later date.

Though the darkness DOES affect shading, I could see the dream world overriding that. Though the range will still be limited, I think.

So I have a plan. I'm going to reinstall and ONLY play that mode for the week and then uninstall to see if that helps get the point across.

I am surprised it wasn't 2 weeks. That would give more data. Also, what I am hoping for is this may offer either a) a separate mode to dive into long-term (after amendments and feedback) or b) they turn it into an Offering later on, which means Offerings can change the tone of the game (my favourite, although I'd hasten to add that maybe the Offering jist does one thing, like remove TR and Scratchmarks, or brings the darkness & split it up so the changes aren't too oppressive).
I can completely understand the need to test it for a trial period. However, 1 week feels like it's not really substantial enough for people to get to grips with it. Someone might have a go at the start and hate it, but maybe return a week later and enjoy it more, but they just don't have the time.

This feels like a beta test with how they're treating it, and I can't blame them. This is something experimental they're doing, it's good to be cautious about it.

they shouldn't always stay in my opinion so they won't split playerbase. they should however be available for custom matches and come back in rotations (when more modes release) at weekends.

That's what I was trying to say. It's just until we get more modes to rotate in, this one should stay.
