How exactly does Headon work?

Hoping I can reach someone that does understand,

I don't get how I can bait out Headon, the survivor clearly jumps out and then I get stunned mid meele. The thing is, it does not always happen and sometimes you just don't get stunned.

Headon itself just feels like such a inconsistent perk for both parties.

So how exactly does it work? Is it a ping thing? Can you get stunned during the entire jump-out animation? What's the range?

you enter inside of a locker, after 3 seconds you can rush out to stun the killer if you´re not exhausted

    you can´t bait head on, it´s purely a 50/50

to not get hit by it act like you are going toward the locker and back up do this multiple times until they jump out. You can also ignore them and once a crow appears head on isnt active but this takes a while.
