Jason Voorhees as a killer in DBD

You should add Jason Voorhees to DBD as a stealth killer! That would be really cool! You could have him with different clothing from the different movies and same with the masks and weapons…you could have his main weapon which is obviously the machete and maybe even add some other weapons he used in the movies! I’m not sure how the whole copy right thing works for games but I’m pretty sure you gotta pay something to add him into the game but this was just something I’ve been thinking about for a while lol :) it would be really cool to have Jason in the game!

    Do you really think that the Devs would not have added Jason at this point if they had the chance to do so? There was (is?) a lawsuit going on which made it not really possible to get the IP. And I think it is still not possible.

    But you can be sure that if there is a possibility to get Jason, the Devs will try to do so and will probably also have some concepts in mind.

    The lawsuit is ‚settled‘ though the ip is split between the two parties. One side owns the original movie script with Jason’s mother as killer, little boy Jason, the Vorhees name, Camp Crystal Lake. The other owns the sequels stuff, including the iconic Jason we know. It’s a mess and I think it’s even messier because the rights work differently in the US.

    This is likely the problem, and what primarily brought down the latest game for Friday the 13th.

    No dev can likely work out an agreement with both parties, and yeah legally it would be a tangled nightmare to unravel.

    Main issue I believe is the names of "Friday the 13th", "Camp Crystal Lake" and "Pamela and Jason Voorhees" are all owned by Victor Miller... basically Miller holds the intellectual copyright to everything in the first film, inclding child Jason.

    However adult Jason didn't appear until Friday The 13th Part 2, and hockey mask Jason didn't appear until Friday the 13th Part 3. Victor doesn't have any rights to the rest of the FT13 films where hockey mask killer Jason is, the rights to those films belong to Cunningham.

    So the issue seems to be that for adult Jason, you are dealing with Cunningham, but the names Friday the 13th, Camp Crystal Lake, and Pamela Voorhees are tied up with Miller... likely you can't really get more than a butchered halfway house Jason without both signing off on it...

    Like never say never... but... getting Jason in DBD is definitely a long shot. 😔
