Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Were These Events Fun? Worth Having Again?

I wasn't into the game when I first bought it and only got in maybe 200 hours my first year / year and a half.

I see these two event offerings on my Steve/Jonathan and have zero recollection of what the events were like. I probably didn't even know they were events 😂

Were they good? Will we see them again?

We preferred the one that added the plants through the map. These (if remembering correctly) were effectively the special gens and hooks deal. Not bad, but not super distinct.

Ohhh. What was the event with plants called? Did the plants affect gameplay or were they just decorations?

    The Hallowed Blight.

It lasted from 19 October to 2 November 2018 and many say it was the best event we've ever had. The plants were called Visceral Cankers, and the survivors would harvest them to obtain Putrid Serum, which was used to buy the cosmetic rewards.

Killers had special hooks (Cankerous Hooks) that they used to get their Serum:

Nah, those two events were not really fun if I remember correctly.

The thing was, during those events (where they just turned Gens and Hooks into Event-Gens and Hooks), you had to hope for other players to bring Offerings as well. If you were the only person bringing an Offering, you only get 2 Gens and 2 Hooks turned into event-Objectives, so you might not even get the points.

(At least as Survivor you also had to sit on the Gen when it is repaired to get the BPs...)

I do wish we had more events centered on DbD itself rather than just holidays. The Halloween event tying into lore about the Void was pretty cool, I'd like to see more stuff like that.

Pustula Petals were used in 3 Events, Hallowed Blight, Withering Blight, and Eternal Blight

The Hallowed Blight was the 2018 Halloween Event and it was the very first time we had event currency being Putrid Serum. This serum was obtained in game by going to Visceral Cankers as a Survivor and harvesting nectar from them to fill your Vial, which was at the top right of your screen. This Vial had 3 sections and they acted as "checkpoints", so if you died you wouldnt all of it. Killers simply needed to hook Survivors on Blighted Hooks, which gave them half of a checkpoint. Once you obtained 10 Putrid Serum, you could buy 1 piece of any of the Hallowed Blight cosmetics, up to a maximum of 6. It also had lore tied to it outside of base lore from killers/survivors. It followed this mysterious figure who experimented with the serum and we got a new log from him every day of the Event on his progress, as well as a few cutscenes (This was the precursor to the Archives). The community named him 'The Alchemist', and this character would eventually become The Blight. This in my opinion was the best event in DbD's history, and so far the only thing that has come close is the recent Haunted by Daylight Event.

The Withering Blight (2019) was probably the worst Event in DbD history as it didnt introduce anything. Pustula Petals made a return, only to give bonus BP when repairing specific gens or hooking a Survivor on specific hooks. The reason why it didnt receive as much backlash was because The Archives and Rift were introduced in the same patch which gave us more lore and Putrid Serum to give us another chance to buy cosmetics from the Hallowed Blight collection, as well as the newly introduced Withering Blight collection.

The Eternal Blight (2020) was the most poorly received Event in DbD's history and understandably so. It did introduce the Event add ons (Broken Bulb, Refined Serum, Blight Serum) which to me is what seperates it from the Withering Blight, but at the end of the day it was still just a glorified bloodpoint event. At the time we were getting VERY lackluster events and everyone was hoping that the Halloween Event (one of the most important events of the year) was going to change that. Worst of all? There was 0 way to obtain the new/old Blighted cosmetics. This caused the devs to do immediate damage control by making each piece 3k Iri Shards, and give out codes for Iri Shards as the Event went on.

The Midnight Grove introduced the Cursed Seed and it is currently the only event to use it. This was the event that introduced kicking pumpkins, as well as event tomes. It wasnt much, but it was a well appreciated event.

There was one good thing about the Withering Blight, and that was the collection's poster:

I liked the Halloween event where you collected the essence or whatever it was and brought it to the rift

think that was Halloween last year?

Meg is the only one of the original four who doesn't have a blighted cosmetic, isn't she? They should give her one.

Yeah she is. Would love a victorian style cosmetic for her
