Killers are hard to play.

For the record, I play on Xbox, so no keyboard/mouse. I played this game for like a week during year 5 anniversary, and quit because killer was too hard, and that was all i played. A new co-worker encouraged me to try playing as a survivor and it’s really easy and laid back. I only really play killer when there is a bonus for blood points. Otherwise, i do not enjoy it. I can’t win chases at all when the survivor los me, because the FOV is so close, and found i need stealth abilities to even have a chance. I have been playing pig and actually won a few games. As survivor i know when a killer is bad when they hook camp, because i do it too as a killer. That’s really the only way i can win.

I feel like any buffs to help with a skill cap issue, would just make it impossible to win as a survivor with a good player killer. I have played against killers who can easily get 2 hooks on 2-3 players with all 5 gens still up.

I would love to see however, more game comps, like 2 vs 8 or 1 vs 2 with like 3 gens and increased gen repair speed.

You'll learn it after a while but I know the struggle, it takes quite a bit of practice to be precise with controller and it's still worse than mouse and keyboard in many cases. I think I preturned after a while so I don't have to turn to hit, you need a bit of knowledge about loops but it fixes the issue with the turning at least for now.

You can actually get pretty good on console with some practice although range killers are a nightmare and not worth the hassle.

The biggest problem console faces is down to performance. It's significantly easier to straight up lose track of a survivor after a hitting them with a basic or special attack. I think it's a combination of frame drops, survivor speed boost, perks & visual effects that can literally make a survivor almost vanish in front of your eyes. There's a reason people say spinning only really works against console killers and it's due to poor game performance.

I played on console for a few years before moving to PC and it's like you're playing a different version of the game. On the plus side if you can work around the console issues and become fairly good at the game and switch to PC it will make you a very good killer.

It is a case of learning over time, because despite the surface simplicity, it takes quite some time to learn the game.

Firstly there is now an FOV slider in the options, which I would recommend altering. Some put it all the way. I put it to about half way across. Apply it to what suits you best, but it will help with the FOV techs.

Secondly, treat each trial as a learning opportunity and not a quest for victory. Going into a game with the intention of improving a chase skill or learning how best to utilise a perk is far more valuable than a "win every trial" desire. You'll actually find you'll end up winning much more as a result.

When I started it was the opposite for me. Killer was easier for me, whilst survivor was always problematic. It took some time to learn, but you will get better at it.

Don't worry, when you start it's completely normal to struggle. You haven't learned any of the skills on either side yet and there is pretty much nothing you can carry over from other games.

Just keep playing and don't worry about the results. Those will come later but more importantly you'll gain experience and see how others play. You'll find out what works and what doesn't work by watching what other players. There are also a lot of videos on YouTube that can help you figure it out.

If you have any specific questions on what to do in certain situations, then we are happy to help you.

I'd recommend watching some gameplay / tutorials of some experienced players and trying to learn from what they do, IMO that is the quickest way to learn how the game flows and how to win chases.

DbD is not an easy game to pick up, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes much more enjoyable

I’ve done a little of that, especially with survivor. I realized after watching some pro streamers play as a survivor, i don’t have completely outrun a killer, just line of sight him and hide behind something, then when the killer is checking lockers or something sneak away. Works some of the times.

Yup, a big tip for survivor is to make use of your third person camera and using what a lot of people call "check spots". These are areas where you are out of sight of the killer, can see him coming from both sides and have time to react when they do eventually come.

A good tip for survivor as well when in chase is to learn how to angle your camera where you almost always have sight of the killer. Definitely a bit difficult to get used to at first but once you learn this, your chases will be so much better for it.

If you're looking for good survivors to level up so you can get their perks unlocked on all your survivors, I would recommend saving up your shards (the blue currency in the top right of your screen, you get these by simply playing the game and leveling up!) to 4,500 and buying Kate Denson with them. She has a perk called Windows of Opportunity that will show you where the nearest windows and pallets are, a great perk for beginners to help you know where to run to in chase and learn the maps better.

Good luck with everything and hope you enjoy the game! Don't try to take it too seriously at the start, there is for sure a pretty big learning curve when starting this game, so don't fret too much if you're not getting the results you want right away, they'll come with time :)

Edit: Also noticed in your initial post you saying the FOV is too close. They actually just dropped a feature in the "Beta" options that lets you adjust your FOV from the base of 87 degrees up to 103 degrees! Highly recommend doing this if you haven't already.
