Ive seen a lot of clips of people using Insidious on the Unknown to try and fool Survivors into thinking it's a Hallucination...

Hallucinations have Aura Reading tied to them so the only way to actually get this to work is to do it in an area without obstructions to prevent the lack of Aura Reading from being obvious.

BUT WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THERE IS AN EASIER WAY TO COUNTER THIS PLAYSTYLE...

Hallucinations have the Sanctum of Wrath statue mechanic, being that they will turn to face you if you look away and look back at them... kind of like the Weeping Angels from Dr.Who (for anyone who has watched that, I personally havent but Ive seen the concept a lot regardless).

The easiest way to test for Insidious it to look away and look back. If they turn to face you, it's a Hallucination. If they do not turn to face you, they are a player pretending to be a Hallucination.

Or you can be even smarter here.

Approach illusion from behind while crouching. If it's an illusion, the dispel prompt will appear. If it doesn't, then you know it's a killer. Doing so also won't alert killer of your presence so you can crouch out unharmed.
