PainRes + DMS + Grim.

Are these perks intended to synergize with each other?

I think that:

  • PainRes was intended to regress generators and give info about which gen is repaired the most (by survivors screams).
  • DMS was intended to spook players from generators to block them.
  • Grim was intended to spread hook states and incentivise killer to not tunnel.

But right now it works like that:

PainRes damages generator, gives info about which gen is repaired the most, killer walks away from hook, enables Grim Embrace, but instead of regular Grim Embrace it procs DMS, so gens aren't blocked for 12 seconds (as intended with Grim) but 30.

Even when PainRes is used 4 times, every Grim Embrace procs DMS. Previously survivors could counter PR+DMS combo by simply not doing gens when someone was hook but right now they can't and DMS is enforced every single time.

This build is strong on every killer, but on high mobility killers is build that makes people DC and not want to play DBD.

Simply take Blight/Billy/Nurse/Oni, hook someone, enforce DMS via Grim, go to marked gen and use pop.

Is this really meant to be like that?

Slight inacuracy: Pain Res does not give you the info which gen was affected. Even though a survivor might scream, there's no visual or audio notification which gen it was. It did so before the whole DMS back and forth, but not anymore.

Apart from that, Grim and DMS can be problematic, thats for sure.

Isn't it better because it doesn't get tunneled?

Very simple counter. Let go of the gen for a couple seconds before the hook. DMS will only proc if grim embrace kicks you off the gen. Just wait a couple seconds for grim embrace, let it pass, then continue the gen.

So I have to leave gen, wait till killer hooks someone, then wait till killer leaves area close to the hook, then wait 12 seconds for grim to wear off?

Nice counter, I wonder when behavior would add perks that can synergize that much for survivor side.

No it's not because it makes games stall on high-mobility killers, especially with 4 perk/addons that show auras.

Basically everyone needs to be hooked once for even one gen to be done, because it immediately gets into PainRes and then pop.

I mean, you’re being dramatic about it. It’s not hard to let go of the gen right as they are being hooked. Survs in my lobby, including myself, do it all the time to avoid pain res scream. You can see the aura right as the hooking animation starts. You let go right as they get hooked, and it takes the killer maybe 2-3 seconds to proc grim embrace, and you’ve avoided DMS. It is quite literally a direct counter for maybe 2 seconds more of your time.

Well, I can confirm for sure Pain Res + DMS in intended it because they even removed that sinergy at one point and then decided to restore it, stating it on a developer update.

About Grim Embrace, one thing to point: it absolutely can't be used anymore after you spend all uses of Pain Res, because Grim Embrace only applies to the first time each survivor is hooked, and spending all uses of Pain Res means you've already hooked everyone at least once. The only way of applying them at different times is not putting a survivor on a scourge hook on the first time they are hooked (so Grim Embrace is used, but Pain Res is saved for later), but it's usually better to get that early pressure of Pain Res when you can instead of saving it, since not using it might cost you a gen. So most of the time they will end up being used together.
