I don't get why BHVR didn't just say "Microsoft's ish broke" and there's nothing they can do about it to stop all the PANIK here but whatevs, it's fixed now

I didn't think the panic was needed myself, because BHVR have recently been great and this was not their issue but Microsofts.
No idea why they didn't say that but, as you say, it's here now and we can join the fray!
