without spoiling anything it hints at a final trial I might be reading too much into it but

    It may well not be something that signals the end of DBD, because it has plenty of legs to go and is still hugely successful.

    However, it may be a subtle sign of - when they do end it - maybe this is a hint of what will happen.

    DBD has some years left in it. Maybe this is all part of the storytelling.
