Boons aren't really worth it, and there are only 5 of them... | A Boon Buff and new Boons
Due to this, there isn't really any variety in the builds you can do, there aren't even that many boon support perks that could buff them up or in other way change them, literally one of those support perks is a boon itself, so yea…
I think some of the boons could use some little touch ups to make them a bit better, since currently for the time you spend on them they don't really provide an equally good effect. And while we're at it, I could come up with some new boon effects that I think could be quite decent!
Overall Boon buff
Make all boon effects linger for 4 seconds when out of range, instead of just some of them, I think this would be a nice QoL change!
- All effects linger for 4 seconds after leaving the Boon Totem's range.
Boon: Circle of Healing
One of the better boons, honestly, it's quite decent in its current form, but I think it would be cool if all healing debuffs while inside of the boon's range wouldn't work. So no debuff from Sloppy Butcher, Coulrophobia, etc.
- Trumps all healing debuffs while in the Boon Totem's range.
Boon: Dark Theory
To be honest, I do not like the effect of this boon at all, but if I were to buff it I would just simply increase the Haste Bonus from 2% to 3% like Made for This has, big enough to be noticeable, small enough to not be a huge issue. Maybe if you really want to lean into this Perk's chase oriented playstyle, you could sprinkle in some Vault speed increase, like 9% increase while inside the Boon's range!
- Increases Haste Status Effect strength to 3%. (was 2%)
- Increases vault speed by 9%.
Boon: Exponential
A boon with a really strong effect, yet it still lacks due to how situational it is. I think it would be neat if this perk allowed you to move while recovering, like Tenacity does, so even if you don't manage to recover yourself while inside the boon's range, you at least can position yourself better for a potential flashy or pallet save!
- Allows you to move while recovering.
Boon: Illumination
Honestly one of the worst boon perks currently in the game, the effects of it aren't worth the time spent on setting it up and you could equip any other Perk (like Clairvoyance) and do better than to use it. But I have an idea to make this Perk a bit better! Make it also reveal all other auras like Clairvoyance does, so you can also use it to find the hatch, exit gates, etc., get rid of the cleansing / blessing speed bonus because it doesn't make any difference anyways, it doesn't even let you set the boon itself faster unless you have it already setup… Howerver, make it reveal the Killer's Aura for 3/4/5 seconds when they enter the boon's range and give it a unique sound effect so stealth killer's would also be affected! (even tho their aura wouldn't be shown, you would still know they're near)
- Removed the cleansing / blessing speed bonus.
- Now also reveals Exit Gate Switches and Hatch auras.
- Plays a unique sound and the Killer is revealed for 3/4/5 seconds when they enter the Boon Totem's range.
Boon: Shadow Step
Probably the second best boon perk, which doesn't really do much to be honest, in a chase it's not really that effective unless you have tons of LoS blockers, the build in Aura blocking is quite nice tho, can prevent chases from even happening. But I think it could do a bit more! Make it also silence your footsteps and remove pools of blood, this way you can make some really nasty stealthy plays while in a chase!
- Now also removes Footstep sounds and Pools of Blood.
Now to the new boons!
Boon Effect #1
While inside the Boon Totem's range:
- Missing a Skill Check doesn't alert the Killer and counts as a Good Skill Check.
- Grants a 1/2/3% bonus progression for Great Skill Checks.
This one mostly aims at new players so they won't really get punished for not hitting Skill Checks, and good players will now have an extra bonus for hitting those specifically!
It could also be made as a new general perk! So there is a counterpart to the Killer's general perk Shattered Hope.
Boon Effect #2
While inside the Boon Totem's range:
- Press the Secondary Active Ability button to temporarily disable the Perks of all players within range for 30/35/40 seconds. (including you)
- Doing this will destroy the Totem your boon has been blessed on and you get 1000 bloodpoints as if you cleansed it.
I think a Perk like this could allow for some really nice clutch plays, like avoiding Devour Hope, Aura reading Perks, chase perks, etc. It would create an interesting scenario I think haha.
Boon Effect #3
While within the Boon Totem's range:
- Unlocks the ability to Sabotage Hooks without a toolbox, which takes 2.5/2.4/2.3 seconds.
- See all Hook Auras in blue, Scourage Hooks are shown in yellow.
All sabotaged Hooks within the Boon Totem's range cannot regenerate as long as the Totem is blessed.
A boon perk for sabo enjoyers, I would really like to try this one!

killer player don't approve of boons, they think mechanic is busted. i don't see them buffing boons any time soon. i'd increase their radius to 32 meters. and see if the perk are any better.

Having a larger range might help some of the Perks a bit, but that wouldn't really fix those mediocre effects some of them have haha.
I don't think it's Killers who don't like boons, BHVR probably isn't sure how to balance them at all, seeing all the previous version of Circle of Healing and the dreadful meta it created 💀
So they probably opt from making new ones, or new good ones at least, seeing that the last Boon we got was from Alan Wake which is the worst boon we have so far lol.

i think alan wake's boon is suppose to be something hex:undying where it boosts boon perks and by boost, i mean actively makes boon stacking across 4 survivor more common.
I.e having circle of healing+shadow step+dark theory alongside it. apparently, it is suppose have boon speed as a bonus and it used to show totem aura's allowing your teammate to plant 4 boons across the map more easily as soon as single boon is lit.

I guess it could be interpreted as that, but sadly, even tho in boosts cleansing and blessing speeds, it only does so when the totem itself is lit, so most of the time the bonus speed is useless unless you want to relocate the already lit totem.

its balance is bad.
what it should do is grant 100% blessing speed to user. when totem is lit, you can see totems on the map when standing in an area. it would be pretty good if you play 4 boon build. it is designed to be played with 4 boon builds. It is just that boon perks suck and boon:illumination is not good.
when i use boon perks, i just get no value out of them. you get value out of boon perks like 1/5 survivor games. as a result, i don't see the point in equipping a perk that works 1/5 games. I like using boon shadowstep and dark theory as a perks but they're too inconsistent for any serious build.
