Is it possible for another player to cause me to disconnect?

I've had this experience several times, and it's starting to feel like more than a coincidence. I can play for hours without issue, then at a key moment in a game, often when the other players were winning, and suddenly the tide turns, I'll get disconnected from the game. I end up with a disconnect penalty. Obviously I don't get any bloodpoints.

DBD is the only game where I experience these random (or not random?) disconnects.

So I'm curious if it's possible for other players to do something on their end to cause a disconnect. Thanks.

There have been a few discussions about that in the past. I had the same impression of getting a disconnect right when I had basically won.

But the consensus was it was largely a coincidence.

It could be a coincidence, but I don't really think so. It's happened to me a few times, too, always in the same circumstances as OP stated.

I do believe that cheaters can crash the server yes.

  • Yeah, there seems to be a new cheat going around.

Yes cheaters use ddos or something to crash the server. I have had it done to me many times, every time when I catch last survivor or when I'm about to win. Never happens when I'm losing. Last time the survivor was opening the gate, I caught him and server went down before I could get the hook.

Similar happened to me tonight when I never get any issues normally.
Was losing a game while trying to do a challenge and when I turned the game round with one on hook, one being carried to hook, and another failed to body block me and went down - all of a sudden I get disconnected dedicated server stopped responding.
Survivors got their bp, I got nothing and lost challenge progress.

Recorded the game but don’t know how to report it as not sure who caused it and you need the player ID to report both in game and using the form, so not sure what to do about it.

It has happened only a few times to me, I don't think it goes up to 10, but it sure is annoying, suspicious and unfair. Not only you lose challenge progress and bp while the others leave with all their bp and items, you also lose your offerings and add-ons.

I have had this moments a couple of times, where I was just killing it and was dominating, and literally mid-lunge and a couple of frames away of connecting with a survivor and then I get disconnected and punted out of the game. It COULD be a coincidence, but I think its more likely that foul play way involved, but without any video proof that just a gut feeling.

Same with all this survivors stepping up behind rocks or trees directly in front of you, where you were 100% sure that no one could have snuck in there, just being the hero of the day of coming for a perfect flashlight save. A coupld of this probably are just amazing game sense, but it happens so often and sometimes 3 times a match with the exact same survivor, that I suspect a lot of these are some teleporting save hacks.

In the p2p days it was certainly more feasible, but since they went to dedicated servers (Amazon iirc, but someone might know more) you would hope it'd be not an actual issue.

PC reset right after I hit a Billy with a pallet. So, now I have a disconnect penalty…😵

  • This has also happened to me before many times. Playing killer, about to win the match, and then the game suspiciously crashes. I lose all my bloodpoints and the survivors get to keep theirs.
