How do speed increases work?

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is it additive or multiplicative?

I'll use this as an example: Machine learning gives a 10% speed bonus to killers when it's active. A killers base speed is usually 115%. An additive speed bonus would bring that killer up to 125% movement speed, since it just adds 10% to the 115%. However, when used as a multiplicative bonus, you would take 10% of the 115%, which would be an additional 11.5%, and add it to the 115%, which would give the killer a speed of 126.5%.

So, are bonuses additive or multiplicative? Because if it is multiplicative, that brings up my next question. I'll use the previous scenario and add the perk Batteries included. If we add Batteries Included on top of both scenarios, heres what happpens: If its additive, we add 5% to the already 125% to get a movement speed of 130%. However, if it's multiplicative, we add 5% of the current 126.5% (6.275%) and add that to the current speed of 126.5 percent, we get a current speed of 132.775% movement speed. This is a game where an additional 2-3% movement speed bonus could change how all chases are really played. 'Made For This' and 'Boon: Dark Theory' are good examples of this in practice

So, does any one know? Are speed bonuses additive or multiplicative? I'm not asking for nerfs or anything. Just a better understanding of how perks that give speed bonuses work

As far as I know, haste and Hinder are multiplicative , but bloodlust isn't, and that's the rule you make the math around.

Not all killer Powers interact with haste, so be careful whith that.

They are multiplicative. The way speed boost works is they go off of total movespeed before each perk gets applied. So machine learning would make you 126.5% from 115% then batteries included would go off of that 126.5% to make you 132.825%. This could happen vice versa because perk order does matter but only in very small and specific scenarios like soul guard and unbreakable

    • All increases are additive, so that they don't stack exponentially.
    • All decreases are multiplicative, so that they don't trend to zero.

The confusion with movement speed is due to the fact that killer movement speed is often referred to in relation to survivor movement speed, i.e. 115% relative to survivors 100%.

Haste is still additive, but it's additive to the base movement speed in m/s terms. It's +10% of 4.6m/s. Which is not the same as 125% relative to survivors 100%, but is 4.6m/s + 0.46m/s, so is 5.06m/s. Which is equivalent to 126.5%.

Wow... today I learned... I thought everything was based on survivor base speed.... apparently not true, and existing haste effects are multiplied together.

This page is great, if cumbersome to understand movement speed:

Somehow I got the wrong end of the stick trying understand this page the first time until I cross checked your statement. Well played that man xD
