So easy to see why survivors have a bad rep
I been doing the event as survivor, mainly going for pumpkins. I have played countless matches, most have had the killer let survivors go to get PB but even the odd sweaty killer just got the kills and that was the end of it...next match.
I went killer once, I also didn't play seriously and let survivors win and go for event points. End of the match I had abuse from the survivors "l2p" "bad killer" lol any wonder why killers have no mercy and slug, tunnel, camp to get kills in normal mode? I know not all survivors are like that but an overwhelming majority are. I honestly wish I had played like I usually do but that's on me I suppose. Back to the usual play of tunneling, camping and slugging I think, if I'm going to have abuse hurled at me then I might as well give a good reason for it 😁

Where are your stats to show the majority of survivors are like this? Because I play meme killer friendly killer all the time and I’ve gotten maybe 1 out of 15 matches of survivors behaving this way. Sometimes survivors will just pop gens and leave because they don’t understand I’m memeing or they just don’t trust it. But I don’t get the toxic behavior when I play.
Point being.. my anecdotal experience is not proof of survivors statistically being one way or another the same as yours isn’t. So maybe post some stats if you’re gonna claim “majority of survivors are toxic” just because you’re upset at a few bad encounters you personally had.

My stats are my own experience coupled with numerous posts from others that experience the same thing. Your stats might differ to mine as your experience seems different. But from my experience that spans years playing DBD as both survivor and killer, I can honestly say statistically I'm way more likely to come across toxic survivors than a toxic killer.
Most of the time the killer slugs or tunnels and I think 🤷♂️ fair enough, not great but it's not toxic by any means then they say GG and move on. Survivors are usually a whole other story. Even when I'm a survivor, people on my team spout out abuse at the killer for any number of reasons.
I'm just saying this is my experience and I know I'm not the only one to have this experience so for the people that do experience it like I have, it's no wonder survivors have a bad rep.

I don’t really encounter toxic survivors when I play killer regardless of how I play. But when I try to meme with survivors usually they just seem to try quickly finish the game almost like they’re afraid. I don’t really see toxic survivors or killers too much these days but I guess I’d say I seen both in roughly equal measure. I do consider hard tunneling (not so much camping) to be a toxic strategy. I see that more than survivors teabagging at exit gates but it’s not super common either.

Eh, I'm a survivor main. I've experienced a level of toxicity from killers during this event that i dont usually see. Example A. Killer pretended to want to give me hatch and dropped me next to it, stood on the edge of hatch and spammed close or whatever button that canceled my animation of going in. After three tries I crawled off hatch, watched the killer close it, and mori me next to it. Also experienced a fifteen minute end game in the void where the killer refused to hook me or let me exit. I just gave up at one point on their shoulder to see how long they would wait and it was 10 mins while I ate my lunch. That being said I don't turn into a raging toxic survivor because some players are playing that way.
After 7 years of playing this game I can honestly say the same survivors that teabag the killers also tunnel, bleedout kill, bm and camp as killer. Killer and survivor roles aren't mutually exclusive. People who are toxic aren't suddenly decent human beings because they play another role. Charge it to the individual, not the role they are playing. Next time you encounter a toxic survivor check their kills. I have looked at the escapes on some toxic killers and saw that they had more escapes than kills. Survivor main? Contrary to popular belief playing the other side does not make everyone sympathetic.

I don't think this is proof that an overwhelming majority of survivors are toxic.
My experience with the event so far has been very different than what you've described. In fact, I've seen way more killers than survivors acting toxic and making the game miserable for everyone, including post-game chat insults. But that doesn't mean the overwhelming majority of killers out there are toxic.
You are more likely to encounter toxic survivors simply because every match has 4 survivors, and just 1 killer. If the game was 4v4, you would see both in equal measure.

"I did one game and thats the norm". Hilarious as always. Survs have no bad reputation, thats just a lie.
13 -
Why don't people realise that the majority of players play both sides? Most toxic survs act the same as killer and vice-versa.
We are almost in 2025 and these distinctions are outdated.14 -
1 game apparently is the end all be all
2 -
I mean yeah it's 4 survivors and 1 killer there are more chances to see toxic survivors than killers.

How insane! I love the occasional farming Killers! I'm sorry you were treated that way, absolutely uncalled for. I play on PS5 with anonymous mode and all the privacy settings on the Playstation so that nobody can harass me.

I've rarely encountered toxic survivors this past year.
They are usually polite and very nice.
At most some are salty, usually from competitive teams that have lost. (My usual casual style switches to extremely competitive to answer to aggressive survivor plays)
Even "bullies" (that I love : they almost always die) tend to be polite.
Recently, at most, I played a very relaxed match were at least one survivor knew I was only caring about my rift (didn't even hit him and went straight for pumpkins). We saluted each-other several times during the "match". Since I didn't care about anything else than pumpkins I used the most broken and useless killer I have (Hag).
In the end game chat, that one survivor was cordial and another was commented at how I couldn't chase him when I didn't even try. Beginners tend to have a very bad read of the room. They also don't always understand that when a killer grabs them and let them go away, it's not to start a chase again. 🤭
As I said : it's nothing bad.

I very rarely encounter toxic survivors. One encounter sticks out to me in the last 3 months or so. I'd read up on confirmation bias.

This
And when it does happen, I cant help but have a little fun with them :)
3 -
Yep. It's completely fake, two-faced wholesomeness from them. "We're playing just to have fun, and want everyone to have a good time!" Wins 1 match: "Click, click. Tbag, tbag. Ur so bad! Uninstall!" Killer wins, and doesn't care about their fun either: "How dare you! Ur so bad! Killer-sided game! Why are you so mean?!" It's all fun and games for their side, but the moment they have to concede anything to killers, a kill, a loss, a shred of common decency, then suddenly they lose their ever-lovin' minds.
3 -
But it's never just 1 toxic survivor. It's usually almost all of them, assuming they escape. An escape realistically is meaningless, because it doesn't necessarily mean you looped well or were efficient on gens. You just got a good match up or team, and found yourself in an open exit. But because it's the killer's win condition to get kills, and their escaping denies it, they usually get the ultimate "rubbing it in your face" satisfaction, especially since it's group bullying. I rarely see killers so ecstatic about the other side losing. They're too busy on... just trying to play the game? Occasionally, you'll see a Wraith hitting on hook after a win, because you know he rarely gets any kills in his other matches. But with survivors, it's virtually every time they win that they act so malicious and undignified. They do it when they lose as well. The 1v4 equation has nothing to do with it.

Well, that's your problem being in this discussion. You meme with survivors, like they're your friends, which probably seems like appeasement and bootlicking from their end, and you probably even let 1-2 out too. You intentionally don't tunnel, so clearly you're playing by their rules and are losing games you should have won. So of course this is what you see. But if you're playing to win, and you use tunneling and don't meme around, and you do win a lot, you're gonna face tougher and more sadistic survivors. Either they're good at the game, or they just have more advantage than you, but they'll completely stomp you, and won't let up even though they'd expect that from you. Then they'll say something like EZ, and if you respond, which they get off on, you'll get more personalized bullying messages. I'm glad you haven't seen what lurks in the dark just yet, but they're out there and they do this constantly to people just trying to win like they are.

Thats a good point. My experience this event was mostly fun, too. If survivors played a map offering or brought 4 flashlights, I sweated, too, but most of the time I was rather chill and purposefully let some survivors "off the hook", leading to many more pleasant then mean spirited games.
But because there are 4 survivors to each killer, I can barely count the number of times that I got a 4E with no one waiting at the exit gates till the timer was up, at least on will always take the opportunity and I would say that I can count on my two hands how often 4E survivors just left.
With killers, I am equally pressed to remember many occasions were I was bleed out purposefully by the killer. Sure, I got hit on the hook here and there, but nothing too bad. I still fail to equate hitting on the hook to survivors t-bagging, mostly because I experience it so infrequently and rather rarely. A killer hooking a survivor on the hook isn't doing anything productive, and if its the last survivor, it will be over after the sacrifice animation.
So in my experience there are just many more toxic survivors then killers, BUT your playstyle can surely influence this. Some players will never make friends with the other side, but during events there is a lot more funny and playful and lighthearted interactions between the two roles then during off-seasons.

Sad is my experience is the opposet for the event. Got maybe 3 killers farming the even and 30-40 sweating for 4k asap.

Asking for "stats" on something with which it is impossible for us to get anything other than data on our own personal experience is disingenuous. My personal experience dictates, that the vast majority of the time i play, regardless of it is survivor or killer, everyone is a complete toxic douchebag that results in literally the most toxic community i have ever seen in a game. And this is coming from someone who plays DotA.
Its not just about words, its about actions. People don't "BM" in DotA nearly as often with their ACTIONS. Sure, they say bad words at you and slurs, but you just mute them and move on. DBD is on a different level, because people actively take actions in the game for the purpose of harassing the other side. No other game is like that on the scale of DBD in my experience. Sure, it happens in some games, but in DBD, it is nearly every single match i play.
Since the event started, i can count on 1 hand the amount of games that ended in a simple "gg wp" at the end where everyone genuinely were playing to have a good time, rather than ruin someone elses day.

Not really. Someone had a bunch of jerks back to back and has had enough, so they now direct their rage at the side that harassed them.
It's definitely not a good way to play the game (an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind), especially since you mostly hit the wrong people. But it's an emotional response to something that unfortunately happens in every online game.
@Prometheus1092, I hope you'll get some better matches soon but please try not to be a jerk towards people that just play the game. They might end up just like you, trying to get revenge, which breeds more salty killers and salty survivors.

I have to agree with @Xernoton
It is what it is but only a small amount of people (very tough people) respond to meeting fire with fire. Most everyone else needs to be approached in a way that preserves their dignity and respect.
There’s an expression I like that fits: “Don’t go shooting all the dogs down just because one’s got fleas”
I’m not a huge fan of dogpiling on either side either. Whether you play Killer or Survivor, the negativity you receive will not go away with more negativity.
And if you just don’t want to be a part of any of it that’s fine too because toxic people just want you to fight with them. Whether they win the argument or lose they still win because all they want to do is fight and bring you down to their level. Refusing to fight a toxic person is one of the best ways of “fighting back”.
I would respond to the toxicity with positivity. It neutralizes the glee and energy others receive from abusing others. I mean the actual reality is that you have to be going through something to allow yourself to hurt people with verbal abuse.
Anyways if you ever want… non-verbally abusive Survivors to play against I’d be more than happy to help put a game together.
Hopefully things have cooled off and you’re in a better place now. Peace ✌️☮️🕊️

It’s very easy to get swept up in emotions due to bad experiences. I’m sorry you experienced some rough games, trust me, we’ve all been there. It’s important to remember that:
Toxic survivors are toxic killers, and toxic killers are toxic survivors. Because one role is not inherently toxic. It’s the people that are.
Claiming that an entire role or the majority of that player base is toxic tends to weaken what could be very valid points by making them seem dramatic or exaggerated. This kind of generalization fosters an ‘us vs. them’ mentality, which can make reasonable arguments appear overly hostile or unfair. I understand this was likely a vent post, but broad statements like these can be harmful to both those you’re generalizing and to your own credibility.Im sorry for your frustration, and I hope you have better games in the future.

I been playing for years and it's always been the same (for me anyway). If roughly 8/10 of my matches are like that (get matched with toxic players) then I'm not sure how I would mostly hitting the wrong people. Odds are I would be hitting the right people more often than hitting the wrong ones.

It’s not disingenuous to ask for data from someone making a broad claim about an entire playerbase. If you’re gonna make the claim that the “overwhelming majority” of survivors are behaving a certain way then have proof to back that up. Otherwise re-state the way you say something.
Would have been very easy to say “I don’t know if it’s my MMR or what but in my experience I’m getting a lot of survivors acting this way.” The OP didn’t do that. They literally said “I played one game as killer so now it’s easy to see why survivors have a bad rep because the overwhelming majority act this way.”
So now we can tell what the overwhelming majority do based on one match? Okay. 😆3 -
The OP is talking about their personal experiences, it is clear from the post.
0 -
Must be a regional issue. Never ever have seen anyone making such false claims.
1 -
My guess would be more MMR based than regional. There has been many people claiming the same thing as me from various regions (high rates of abuse post match from survivors regardless of win or lose) some of which have actually posted on these forums about their personal experience which isn't all that different to mine and they scratch it up to the fact there are 4 survivors and 1 killer so statistically more likely to get a toxic player. Which sort of makes sense. Just today I played 4 matches as a killer... All 4 matches there was at least 1 survivor that couldn't resist but say "get good" or "touch grass" even tho I got 4k. I could play 4 matches as survivor to compare how many of them the killer has something negative to say post match.

Math isnt your strenght, right? And it has abolutely nothing to do with MMR, cause you cant even make out what MMR you have nor anyone you play against. Also you do not belong to the top 1%, thats easy to tell.
1 -
Looks like your math isn't that great lol just because MMR is hidden doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If I'm getting 3/4k regularly on a nightly basis it would explain why I'm going against sweaty swf very often and would explain the bitterness when these swf groups lose because they are so used to winning. You say my maths isn't great but yet you fail to provide anything that says otherwise.
0 -
I never said that mmr doesnt excist, dont put any words into my mouth to excuse yourself. If youre regularly getting 4ks its obviously not that good of an mmr or youre completely sweating yourself and have no right to judge anyone else. Also saying youre only getting against sweaty swf is a lie in itself, cause most games arent swf.
1 -
I'm sorry to hear you had an experience like that. I had a game today where a survivor decided to try to go next at 5 gens and ruin the game for their team (attempt on hook, got unhooked, ran in my face mid chase) and everyone stopped what they were doing to teabag this guy on the ground until he DC'd for being such a poor sport. Then I let them go after we practiced 1v1s at shack. Anecdotal, and you won't get it every game, but there are still good natured players out there that care about both sides' fun.
0 -
You said it has nothing to do with MMR for the reason being that you can't see what it is. How does that make sense? If it was because your arguing it doesn't exist your point might have more validity but the fact you acknowledge it does exist and yet has nothing to do with type of players I would be matched with makes no sense. I think by your comment of "most games aren't swf" shows your not in the same MMR as me. Trust me, get high enough and you will see far far more swf because soloq is so awful to play it's very difficult to get MMR up. Out of curiosity how long does one have to get 3/4k on a regular basis to be high MMR? It's been a couple of years now.
I do sweat with killer role because of the players im up against lol I'm sure many will agree past a certain MMR it is a sweat fest but that's not the issue, the issue is the abuse spouting post match. Which again would make sense because I don't play survivor much so I'm obviously lower MMR and not being matched with sweaty killers... Maybe if I was higher in survivor rank I would come across more killers hurly abuse post match but as it stands my experience is killer role... Sure bet to get some sort of negative comment post match, not always but a high chance it will happen. Survivor role, way more easy going with killers simply saying "GG" although even then my own teammates sometimes say "bad killer" or something like that.
