AFK can now get you a DC penalty.

Just a fair warning if it wasn't common knowledge (which it might be, because I do in fact live under a rock):

if you forget you queued up for a match and then come back to find yourself on hook, but try to complete the match and end up dying anyway, the system will flag you as if you DCed when you get back to the lobby.

This was unfortunately communicated after a very confused email inquiry to support team.

:') BHVR please

That doesn't seem like the right way to implement this…

Or maybe it is the only way…

Thank you for the info tho. Got it.

    I doubt that.

Hi! I'll post the reply below and I hope this helps.

    " Hey there!

This is Mark, from Dead by Daylight. Hope you're doing well!

First off, I'd like to thank you for your patience; we have been receiving a large volume of tickets, and because of that I apologize if our reply took longer than expected. We're working to the best of our abilities to make sure we can tend to the needs of all our players, and I'll be happy to keep on assisting you!

That being said, I appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us and let us know that you received a disconnection penalty after a match in which you were AFK And returned only at the very end. I understand the penalty was applied between the time you left your controller while on the scoreboard, and coming back at the lobby with the penalty already applied I'm sorry for any inconvenience this situation may have brought to you, and I'll be happy to assist as best as I can!

Keep in mind that the disconnection penalties are applied automatically by our system, which picks up on players who are AFK during matches, and that matches are only truly over once you are back into the lobby (and not the moment you die, meaning that the scoreboard is still part of the match). This means that the system may have picked up on the fact that you were still unresponsive on the scoreboard, along with the time you spent AFK during the match, and applied the penalty after the fact, once you were back into the Lobby. In addition, a network connection hiccup happened on the scoreboard while you were away, that could cause a disconnection penalty as well.

Hope this information helps understand this scenario! Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or situations I can help with, and I'll be glad to keep on assisting to the best of my capabilities.

Wish you have a great day, and see you in The Fog!

    Kind regards,

    Mark "

Seems like if they're going to treat you as a DC, the game should force you out of the game instead of teasing you with the option of finishing the match for nothing. The other survivors will at least get a bot instead of an afk ragdoll that way.

I agree. While it's 100% my bad to forget that I queued up, it feels disingenuous to give a DC penalty when I did, to the best of my ability, complete the match.

I'm aware this was implemented for killer awhile ago, so I guess it's now hit survivor too. I don't think a dev ever confirmed it but there's been plenty of people AFKing as killer who have found themselves with a DC penalty. So it's definitely a thing.

Pretty sure this has been a thing for a bit now

I had heard it was a thing for killers who AFK to reduce their MMR and get easier matches, but I had no idea it would impact survivors. Then again, I don't often forget I queued up, but during 2v8 there was some loooooooong queue times and I got hungry while waiting and just... forgor 😭

It's even worse, if you face one of these instant hook teleport to basement cheater bots you get a DC penalty because you did nothing the whole match.

I guess that's how you tell your playerbase how much you care about them.

It has been in the game for ages now.

I found this out by accident when I forgot I readied up and tabbed out to watch a YouTube video. I tabbed back in to the game with the intention of hitting ready only to be surprised to find myself on death hook lol. Sure enough… matchmaking ban.

They didn't make this change well known imo but it is indeed the case and has been for a long time now.
