Unfair Ban Due to Connection Issues!

Dear DBD Team,

Unfortunately, I have once again received a penalty due to my unstable internet connection – this time for a full 6 hours. I frequently experience internet issues, and I’ve had connection losses during matches before. How is this supposed to continue? Will I eventually be unable to play for several days just because my connection drops?
There must be a solution for situations like this. I’m happy to spend money on a game I enjoy, but receiving such long bans for something completely out of my control feels unfair. Therefore, I kindly ask you to lift this penalty.

My in-game name in Dead by Daylight is lucybchnr.

Best regards,
Lucy

I know Lucy its horrible. I have never gotten over the 5 minute penalty however even at the 1 minute mark i am like , should i que up again because next is 5 and then its 48 hours before i feel safe to que up again or its 15 in which i have to wait for 72 hours.

The punishment system is way out of control. They punish people harder than they do in Asia when you commit crimes ( true story) In Asian countries they cannot hold you in custody before court over 3 days unless your sentence might be over 25 years. ( murders, Sex traffic, Drug cartels etc) And the fact that the first penalty does not decay if you get a new one within 23.59 hours but rather get reinforced is another element that is just bizzare.

I get it , its annoying someone drops from a disconnect but DBD is a very casual game and its not that much of a trouble if someone happen to DC once in a while. But it is nothing people should be punished for in this fashion like Lucy here.

And to the above poster here about the internet. People cant assume that everyone got good internet. When i lived in sweden in 2009 i had 1000mbit in my house while americans had 0,5 0,25 like they was living on the moon. Should we have banned americans for playing with us with their poor internet connections back then ?

Lately, I’ve been experiencing frequent internet dropouts, but that can happen sometimes, right? I just don’t think it’s fair. I really enjoy playing the game, but this is ruining the fun for me! If I don’t play for a few days, will the penalty reset, or will it still start at 6 hours again?

As @Aven_Fallen already said, it works as intended, because people shouldn't be given a way out with the excuse they lost connection.

If you have poor Internet connection, that's unfortunate, but you can do something about the situation in one way or another.

Are you using Wi-Fi? Stop, and instead look into getting a cable.

If you have a poor connection regardless, and you DC so many times you rack up 6 hours of penalty in a day, your best bet is to take a break from the game. Hopefully your connection will get better, but if not, at least the penalty won't continue to build.

I hate to sound rude but you may have to call your isp. Sometimes maybe they need to do some maintenance around your place of living or update/ change your equipment.

Though I agree that dbd penalty is way too harsh vs any other game I play. 30mins is a sweet spot for cooling off the head.

If it is an issue which only started lately, then you might need to see if it can be fixed. Calling your internet provider, checking the equipment you have at home.

If you dont play for a few days, the penalty will go down (I think it is one escalation per 24 hours). So if you are on 6 escalations, not playing for 6 days (or simply not DCing for 6 days) should reset the penalty to 1 minute.

But the priority should be to fix the issues.

it’s not fair to the other people whose games you’re ruining by disconnecting. This is not meant to be a cruel comment, like others have said this is part of the expectations for players in a PvP game. You need to make sure that you have a reliable internet connection. You’re not the only person in the match. You are ruining other’s experiences if you are constantly disconnecting, even if it’s not your fault. This is especially true if you’re playing killer as the whole match ends if killer is disconnected.

Ideally the system could detect if a player disconnects due to a legitimate service disruption, but that is not possible. People who want to rage quit can simply unplug their internet connection to make it look like a “legit” disconnection. The DC penalty needs to stay in place to discourage people from doing that.

The DC penalty should put players who DC a lot (for whatever reason) in lobbies with other players who DC a lot. Then they can all see how their behavior/“bad internet” affects other people. No lock out of the game, just lobbies and lobbies full of other players with bad internet connections and ragequits.

Or perhaps the game can develop a system that track the players " Standing " in terms of DC. Like Unkownshredder has sent 10 000 people to heaven and have DCed 5 times in total in that specific day. was it because he suddenly that day drank a bottle of estrogen or is it because he is unlucky and give people a grace period rather than punishing them so harshly. The top penalty should be 30 minutes with no extension because that is enough for people not to DC in my world at least.

And Kerjuice DC lobby isnt that bad of an idea actually. Like you get a penalty one day and you want to continue to play and feel its too much of a risk you can play the risk free non north korean punishment style game mode for the duration of your penalty decay.
