Is Danganronpa Out of Scope for Dead by Daylight?

The Danganronpa series is a collection of murder mysteries involving talented high school students. The developers of Danganronpa, Spike Chunsoft, partnered with IdentityV several years ago, which shows they are open to collaborations. Enough time has passed where it would not be compared to Dead by Daylight.

The developers have shown interest in making "smaller" killers with the M3GAN license. The Danganronpa series has very few villains—and the most important one is a "small" killer called Monokuma. He is very simple in design compared to other Dead by Daylight killers because of his color scheme. The DBD artists would drool for the opportunity to have a simple Killer project to work on for once. He's literally half one color and half another, LOL.

The developers have shown willingness to make evil Survivors with Taurie Cane. The most important character in the Danganronpa series, by far, is Junko Enoshima. Junko would be the most evil of evil survivors. The entity would prevent her from killing herself. Her "execution" is to atone for her sins by dying over and over again in the Entity's realm. From this, she has a valid reason to be there, as she should be punished after spreading despair to the entire world. Junko's professional title as the Ultimate Fashionista (yes this is 100% serious) means she has a canon lore reason to have the best cosmetics in Dead by Daylight. The main video game series has a running joke that Junko Enoshima is always the mastermind of the killing games. The main joke behind Danganronpa V3 (V=5) is that Junko Enomishma #53 was the 53rd mastermind behind the killing game, because she is always the mastermind behind the killing game.

KILLER POWER IDEA - In Danganronpa 3 Future Arc anime, the players played Among Us/Werewolf — but the twist was the Imposter/Werewolf actually committed suicide after being hypnotized by a despair video. Whoever fell asleep the closest to a monitor would cause the monitor to drop a Monokuma Knife.

I think this would translate to Dead by Daylight very well because it would be very very very funny if Monokuma has to "earn" his weapon, the Monokuma Knife, by Survivor's bracelets activating near monitors. I haven't finished the idea from a balancing perspective, just sharing lore-accurate thoughts. I think a less powerful version of the Despair Anime could be made to disorient Survivors near monitors as well.

Discussion: Is Danganronpa "Horror Enough" for Dead by Daylight?

I forgot to include this in my main post, my bad.

All the characters in Danganronpa are legal adults at the time the game takes place. In Danganronpa 1, the students are not aware the world has already ended, and they kill each other in an attempt to escape and go back "to the outside world" which no longer exists as it used to. For this reason, the characters are all actually 19 years old, but think they are in high school.

A fellow Danganronpa fan? NO WAY!

Anyways, as a full chapter, it would be quite difficult. There is not a lot to work with, tbh. The series doesn’t have an enemy you can physically fight, so that’d be an issue.

But as a costume collection, it’d be easy. There are some nice matchups between the survivors and DR students, plus Mukuro would pair well with Legion.

So, while Danganronpa could be theoretically certified as horror,

I mean the executions, the Final Killing Game, the Tragedy, the fact the original version of THH was reworked for being too brutal and much more,

the gameplay just wouln’t work very well.

    I would appreciate Danganronpa skins.

Hopefully i will be able to play Mikan and Celestia if that happens.

After smoking on it, I have an idea. Hear me out.

In Danganronpa 3 Future Arc, that killing game used bracelets with forbidden actions. This would create interesting and unique gameplay if implemented in Dead by Daylight. All Survivors would begin a trial wearing a watch or armband, and the watch face or armband would change colors and show the icon of the forbidden action. The three forbidden actions are: repair generators, heal survivors, and use items. Yes, I know this is crazy strong. Yes, I know it needs to be balanced. But if balanced, it would be FUN. The forbidden actions do not have to last the entire trial. They can work for a set period of time deemed appropriate. The forbidden action to stop repairing generators, for example, would never be 60 seconds under any circumstances while use items might.

Additionally, the assets used for Sadako's televisions can be redesigned to fit the Danganronpa world. It is up to the developers and Spike Chunsoft if they believe Monokuma should be able to teleport between the monitors. There is lore reason that he should — but it might be too aggressive of a power for him to be able to. Up to someone who knows more about balance, just an idea. The despair anime video that is discussed in Danganronpa 3's anime would play on the monitors, and any survivor who stays in the radius too long will be brainwashed, or have some certain status effect to punish them for not counteracting his power. The Megaphones could be copied from Ultra Despair Girls and be used as a healing device, not to stun or disrupt Monokuma.

    Nice cooking man.
It could have more forbidden actions for the killer to chose through out the game like :
Don't stop running for x seconds.
    Don't vault
    Don't stun the killer
    Don't hold any items
    and the list goes one.

It would be really funny to have a Monokuma killer spying on you via TVs and chasing you.

For a full chapter? Probably never going to happen

A skin Collection though? I could see that working out fine

Well. Identity V got a danganronpa skin collection. It fits the murder mystery vibe of that game. The artstyle of the survivors there helps tho.

I think DR in Dbd might work, though like with the concerns about the AOT collection, translating the anime artstyle into dbd's own is the crucial part.

    Remember Quentin?

Out of scope? No, but I'm not sure how familiar the overall playbase is with the franchise. BHVR does surveys about this and the fact that we haven't seen more skins / products from Japan or Korean based entertainments that haven't crossed over into US / West kind of makes me think there isn't that much interest.

I'd love to see a Hope vs Despair collection featuring Julie. It'd be nice to see Julie as the boss for once

They could do cosmetics but I think Danganronpa characters are too stylized, even by anime standards, to fit into DbD.
