Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

If you aren't playing DBD what games (video or otherwise) are you playing?

I'm curious what other games people play in addition to DBD. I ask because I suspect which other games people play may affect how they approach DBD, so also how (if at all) do you think that affects the way you play DBD?

For example, I've been playing a bunch of Dota 2. That's a game that's far more structured for competetive play, so I see DBD as a place to relax by comparison.

I also play a lot of indie puzzle games. I like the macro strategy of DBD; puzzle games tickle that same problem solving instinct for me. So there's definitely examples of reasons I play DBD for similarities to other games, and reasons I play to contrast other games.

I've just been playing Stellar Blade and Astrobot recently but I don't think that has had any influences on the way I play DBD. I did buy Phasmophobia yet I haven't tried it - perhaps this weekend

Every other game I play is single player (or predominantly single player like Soulsborne and Borderlands games). Mostly RPGs (JRPGs and Western), Roguelikes and the most challenging action RPGs I can get my hands on. Big Fallout player. And anything Fromsoft makes; I've been all about that life since Demon's Souls.

Historically I have always avoided online multiplayer games because they eat your life, and tbh most days I regret picking up DBD as it has eaten thousands of hours of my life, lol.

I'm gonna date myself here, but I used to be into the fighting game scene…in person at the arcade.

DBD is really an outlier for me, something that I can pick up and put down easily. Pretty much anything else I play I will only play in large chunks of time (5-6+ hours). DBD is the "I'm gonna switch my brain off for a while" game in my life. Its appeal to me is that it's too messy and imbalanced to take seriously, so I don't get stressed by it.

The only games I have been playing recently are the Resident Evil Games, not all of them however,

    I play RE, RE2, RE3, RE4, RE6, RE7 and RE8. If I played EVERY Resident Evil game, i'd probably die 💀

Occasionally the big story ones when there's a new one; RE, Far Cry, AC (well, not the next one though) etc, Alan-Wake-Universe, Horizon etc.

All-time-goodies are Age of Empires II, Anno and Planet Zoo.

Currently, I’m 100%’ing RE Village. My other ‘main’ game currently is The Outlast Trials.

I’m also (not) patiently awaiting the newest Professor Layton.

I wouldn't say other games influence how I play DBD, more so they've influenced me to take very long breaks from DBD. I play a variety of games, just depends on my mood.

Diablo 4 is my relax and just hangout with my brother game. We used to play DBD together but he quit entirely and the time we would've spent in DBD we now spend messing around in Diablo 4.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Killer Klowns, and Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed for assym/pvp. I like the different approaches to assym horror.

Helldivers 2 and Outlast Trials for some fun co-op with friends.

Powerwash Sim, House Flipper, or DevCat games when I want something brainless.

In last couple months I played Plucky Squire, Dredge, and TOEM. I need to finish Cyberpunk 2077.

I'm waiting on the new Assassin's Creed to release, pretty excited about that. My brother gave me Banishers for Christmas so will probably start that up once I finish the new Assassin's Creed or want to take a break from it.

I would say that DBD has left a certain imprint on me rather than playing other games has affected my attitude towards DBD.

5 days a week for an hour in DBD.

3 hours a week in Warframe up to level 30. Then sleep mode until the next update.

The rest of the time on the weekends is distributed between fighting games, currently UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH II Sys:Celes.
Co-op horrors if my friends call me UNDERWARD and Lethal Company.

As for single-player, lately I've been drawn to various 2D projects. I've played or am going to play these games: Afterimage, ANNO: Mutationem, Cult of the Lamb, ENDER MAGNOLIA: Bloom in the Mist, Momodora: Moonlit Farewell, River City Girls and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge.

If you want my life story for the past decade, I've gone from LoL to OW, to F13 to Dbd with Yugioh on the side for all that.

Now I have Sparking ZERO on the rotation, I am a Dragon Ball Goku main. Every game I play I play what I find cool and fun, but it's an uphill battle against Sweatlords. But that's the eternal struggle I voluntarily signed up for. Heck, I mained Legion when I started in 2021

I enjoy single player stuff too, particularly Persona. Persona's 3 and 2 are permanently burned into my psyche

In grade 8 I was utterly obsessed with ninja garden 2 the new remake is something I'm working towards playing(I'm playing through black first)

I like metroidvanias, horror games, stealth games puzzle games, Creative games, adventure games, and difficult/Nintendo Hard games. Roguelikes too.

    Some of my favorites are:

    • Okami (OG and the sequel Okamiden) - this game is friggin' art and I will not hear otherwise.
    • Silent Hill 2 (the whole series is decent up to 4. There are no other games after 4.)
    • Hollow Knight (I have gotten the true ending on this game roughly 20 times. This game is also art; When Silksong?)
    • Eldritch (Lovecraftian Roguelike)
    • The Myst franchise (VERY old ancient puzzle walking sim game about exploring other worlds. Very relaxing and fun to me.)
    • The Thief franchise (I like stealth games a lot)
    • The Batman: Arkham games (again, I like stealth games a lot)
    • The Magic Circle (Meta?game about games)
    • Spore (sometimes; I never go beyond Civilization stage because I just don't like the Space Stage much - I like creating things)
    • Minecraft (I only play in Creative and build big things in it. I like to make a world and then find places to build hidden massive stuff like underground temples and crazy portals and things.)
    • Pokemon (but I fell off after around the Platium/Pearl era and the most recent game I own from it is HeartGold.)

In terms of non video game stuff, I run and play tabletop RPGs and I'm basically a forever GM. I primarily run Call of Cthulhu and The Yellow King RPG. I have run the former for 10 years and the latter for three, but also play both. I have dabbled in playing FATE based games, Warhammer 40k, Dungeons and Dragons (5e), MORK BORG, Delta Green, Trail of Cthulhu, Fear Itself, Deadlands, Legend of the Five Rings, dread., Vampire: The Masquerade, and Seventh Sea. As you can imagine seeing D&D come to the Fog was super cool for me.

I'd say DBD has affected my love for games like these, as an escape from how brutal DBD can be, as well as influenced me in this game. I was drawn to stealth Killers for my love of stealth, drawn to this game for my love of horror, and can roll with a lot more punches and tolerate more because I like games that are harsh and tough to master. I didn't list them here but I grew up on Sierra adventure games that sometimes were brutally punishing - maybe that's why I am okay with playing M1s, despite their difficulty. If I can die hundreds of times in Hollow Knight to the Watcher Knights and still come back for more, I can handle a more difficult time winning as Pig. And I try to be fair if harsh as a GM and play what I like as Survivor, so to me it seems natural to be fair if harsh to my opponents and just try to have fun with builds I like!

Pokemon Crystal also gave me a quote I like to keep near and dear to me about Survivor builds and Killer choice in DBD, paraphrased: "Strong [Killers/Builds]. Weak [Killers/Builds]. These are just the selfish perceptions of humans. True champions try to win with their favorites."

I'm still playing DbD but only about an hour a night. I'm currently running through Doom: The Dark Ages. I'm also playing about 4 different jRPGs at once (favorite genre). Star Ocean 4 (platinum grind), Trails in the Sky (1st run), Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (platinum run; just finished the brutal/legendary simulator challenges), and Lunar Remastered Collection (first run on Lunar 1)

Been dipping into what I call my "Zen Games", that being the papas games, and backyard baseball (less of a zen game but plenty of fun to enjoy in a call with friends.) Its been great fun when I feel like taking a break from the P100 grindstone.

Dying Light 2, and in the past couple months I got back into playing Dying Light 1 again. Recently(-ish) played through FAITH: The Unholy Trinity, Until Dawn, and Little Kitty Big City. I keep itching to play Bloodborne or The Lords of the Fallen again, but I feel like I should play one of the games I've been sitting on like Agony or Evil Within 2.

I would probably still be playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons if Nintendo hadn't dropped the ball on that one. God only knows how much time I put into the previous AC games. Some of my other modern faves are Catherine, the DOA series, OMORI, and Cult of the Lamb.

I'm a big singleplayer andy now & I used to be a big MP/comp player in FPS games primarily. Particularly CoD: Ghost. Remember running the clan via our phones through the CoD app lol. Good times.

I recently 100%'d Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 & The First Berserker: Khazan.

Expedition 33 better win GOTY, just sayin.

On the multiplayer side, I have DbD, R6S & GTA RP but its pretty stale right now.

I've also been dabbling in some Star Wars BF2 cause I miss that game & its 10x better than most games out right now. I really hope they make a BF3 (they hit a record high of over 140k recently and the game came out 7+ years ago, pretty crazy).

I'm 'in between' games right now, mostly just picking through random things on Game Pass. I did delay getting into this round of 2v8 for a couple of days though, because I wanted to finish up the absolute masterpiece that is Clair Obscur before I did.

I have over 3000 games and play almost everything.

But lately been playing Repo with my dbd friend,

dbd whenever there is something to earn,

the witcher 1 and tomb raider remaster collections (to finnish in the name of dbd).

Bit of fnaf trying to get interested in the springtrap character im not familiar with other than the mathew lilard skin thata coming with it.

Project warlock 2 since that finally came out of early access

Vampire survivors since im trying to unlock all the castlevania characters

Finnished every castlevania in a row not too long ago (over 25 games)

Dino crisis 1 and 2 since they came out on gog.com in kind of a fixed up version along with the classic versions of resident evil 1 , 2 , 3 on the same gog platform.

Prodeus as its a pretty good doom style shooter like the older pre 2016 versions

Deadzone: rogue as its got very nice gunplay and roguelike mechanics, just still in early access

Forgive me father 2 -another decent shooter thats in a lovecraftian comic art style

Parasite eve 2 since i finnished 1 a while ago and still need to play 3 (called the 3rd birthday)

Kuon for ps2, a surprisingly good japanese style horror resident evil+the grudge game

And silent hill 2 remake along with alan wake 2 thats taking me forever to finnish since i played through 1 and american nightmare to sych myself up for the alan wake chapter, but 2 seems allot more confusing

Also turok 2 was trying to get all the achievements sinc they are finally making a new turok game after 17 years kinda like how perfect dark is trying another reboot now too

Recently I just started 2 other games: "Coral Island" - a cosy farming and village life simulator based on a rather lovely island, and "Post Trauma" - an older man finds himself in some Silent Hill world and looking to escape.

    Ying and Yang.
