The Schrodinger's Pinhead situation
Back when I heard that Clive Barker had regained the rights to Pinhead, I wondered how that would work with Pinhead being in DBD. Yes, I'm aware of the other thing that went on with Pinhead, but I think the development with Barkers rights is probably the more pressing of the two things. After all, it's his sandbox and he gets to decide who plays in it. I do respect that, though the idea of having the character pulled does make me a bit sad as he's the main reason I first started playing DBD.
I understand that Pinhead has his haters in the fandom. And I don't dispute why, especially as his kit with the box cand chains can be particularly challenging for newer and casual players especially. But given how rarely I've ever encountered him as a survivor, I've never had any huge issues with running into "annoying Pinheads." And I love playing him and vs him anyway.
On the other hand, the situation with Barker could also be a positive. He does have a history of great collaborations and does have a history with video games. So any new agreements could bring even more great stuff to the character. As it stands, I think it's a potential Schrodinger's Pinhead situation. I am sorta hopeful.

Well, it was Clive Barker himself that got the voice lines in DBD. Doug Bradley and his wife said in their YouTube Podcast show that while Doug still has no idea what Dead by Daylight is nor does he care, he was happy to re-record the voice lines when Barker asked him to, and he's glad his fans are happy to have him in the game even if he doesn't care about the game himself.
So with the rumors that Pinhead might be leaving, I find that strange since if he did that, surely Barker wouldn't be pulling the rights now? Seems odd to me.4 -
After all, it's his sandbox and he gets to decide who plays in it.License agreements that were signed previously are still valid. Based on the Stranger Things example, I suspect the way BHVR signs licenses is that content which has already been sold can never be taken away, even if the ability to sell the licensed asset is removed.
It's like Marvel and Disney. Disney owns Marvel, but all of the licenses that Marvel signed pre Disney purchase still apply, which is Disney has to negotiate with them for any Spiderman appearance in movies, even though in every other instance Disney owns the character.

I can't speak on out-of-game Pinhead stuff, other than the fact that Hellraiser is a great horror series, and the false alarm NFT scare we had when he came to the game. He's only ever been as high as a top 4 killer. That was peak Pinhead, with unnerfed box respawn add-ons, unnerfed Engineer's Fang, and the Hoarder/box build.
In fact, that was the most fun yet most skillful build/playstyle the game has ever had. Yes, if you got it going, the Chain Hunt would be going for most of the match. But that meant that you had to understand the box spawn logic, and you had to have really fast chases with each new box holder, back to back to back, with no breaks, because as soon as you had 1 unoptimal chase with the box holder, the gens started flying. And god forbid they actually solved the thing before you could stop it; then your whole plan would be out the window. But people cried and got Hoarder's interaction with the box nerfed (because killer perks and powers aren't allowed synergy?), they got the box itself nerfed (literally letting you solve the box with loads of chains attacking you), and they got Engineer's Fang nerfed (the add-on that made him a weaker Legion, because no Deep Wound).
They really screwed him up. It's why you don't see him anymore. He's just an M1 killer with faulty anti-loop (insta-break chains), and you have a sliver of slowdown in the form of the box, which they'll immediately solve, and if you teleport it'll take even longer to respawn for some reason.

Schrodinger's Pinhead....
That's a sentence I wouldn't think of at all.
