Tome 1 challenges impossible
How the hell did you guys get these done? Im solo q since all my friends quit this game. I cannot for the life of me escape without being hooked once with spine chill or finish 4 gens in a SINGLE match with dark sense. They're the last two challenges I need to get done and they feel impossible.
Can the devs change these to make them more feasible or not as infuriating at least?
Like at least with the killer challenges I was able to show I was friendly and the survivors obliged me. But hthe odds of a killer throwing me a bone, in todays DBD climate, next to nothing.

They're not impossible, but many are hard enough that I get most people not wanting to bother.
As for why, DBD was simply a different game back then. I agree that many of them should be tweaked the same way the key/hatch ones were (and some of he key/hatch related ones still remaining are just not worth the effort). Some of them are significantly harder than recent challenges. I have completed most of them, but if I had to do it now I probably wouldn't bother.

I saw this thread and thought I'd check, I too missed that challenge so gave it ago just now. Did it first try lol. Probably luck that I went against trickster that got total of 2 hooks the whole match but still... Got it so definitely not impossible
Challenge was escape without being hooked with spine chill.

Icant for the life of me do it. every match has been super sweaty blights and what not. I've tried every build possible. I swapped my name to ask for help from the killer but that just resulted in me being slugged and humped for four minutes.
maybe if i just lose A LOT my mmr will drop to a point where its feasible.

UPDATE: I FINALLY did the no hook spine chill challenge. Now its time for the one I fear the most. 4 gens in a single match. Once I do that, every challenge will be done

What I would recommend with 4 gens done in a single match is to slap on Bond and Prove Thyself.
Hope for a decent soloq team and group up right when someone is about to finish gens. I got that one at some point. You can even go an extra mile and put Deja Vu on too. 😊

Exactly what I did
So after a few really rough matches. Including getting screwed by a server crash and a INTENTIONAL sandbagging ada wong. I did it.
I was lucky enough to get a hardcore tunneling huntress that tunneled a sable that was cracked in chase while the others body blocked. I did all five gens. I am so happy. All challenges are done now.
The spine chill one was def wayyyy harder

I'm glad you got it done! I still need to work on the Premonition and point at the killer challenge. 🤔☠️
It's a little buggy for me, but at the moment I'm just working on the newer tome haha. I'm glad I could be of service. 🫡

Tome 1's challenges aren't impossible, but you can definitely tell that BHVR had no idea what made for a fair challenge when the tomes first came out
5 -
I had issues with it too. I had to point, let the full animation go through, then wait a second while i stood there. Its a super wonky challenge

Don't get me started on the No Mither challenges or the use Any Means Necessary challenge to reset a pallet and pallet stun the killer again with it challenge - whatever it was. 😂
@bleep275 , yes - it's gotten to the point where I just do the more easier challenges so it doesn't feel like I'm throwing the game. I'm very surprised I got the challenge "Escape with only Self Care." challenge done on my first try against Xenomorph on RPD. I'm glad they're working on overhauling it because challenges should not be excruciatingly difficult to achieve - especially escaping with only Dead Hard but again, my opinion. Doesn't bother me because I kinda let my bloodpoints accumulate up to 2 million and then spend them enmass when I get the time, lol.

Try for it in 2v8 while you still can.

How do you take Dark Devotion into 2v8?!
I was quite lucky. Did this one recently and only took an hour or two. Got it against a Pyramid Head on one of the MacMillans maps. Definitely take something like Bond so you can see where survivors are on gens. Maybe Prove Thyself and/or a Commudious for extra speed. You only need to be on the gen when it's completed. Think I sprint burst and arrived on the last gen with half a second to spare!

A lot of the early Tome challenges are (for a lot of players) impossible today.
As said the game was different back then.
If you are not a good player who can maybe figure something out and/or are extremeley lucky you can´t do a lot of them anymore.
I would hope they change some of the old ones but i don´t think so.

Ngl, I forgot you had to bring Dark Sense.
Wild.

I don't know what was even the mentality behind that. They basically counted on you getting a match where you have to carry hardcore, and that your team and you actually stay alive long enough for you personally to get 4 done, but not so much that your teammates end up doing gens. It's really a convoluted set of conditions.

Some of the early tome challenges are brutal, and changes to DBD over the years have made them much harder, but that isn't the worst one. HUD information actually helps so much with it, and with smaller maps in general now it's much easier to do now than it once was. Still obviously can be a pain though.
Im done with 2v8 so I'm going to try and get some of the more obscure ones done the next couple of days as at the moment you seem to have a much better chance of getting a stronger survivor team.
Also when you can see each others perks, theres going to always be at least 1 of the 4 survivors that isn't going to want to play with people only using Self Care or using Spine Chill, Premonition or whatever else. I always try to have the rest of the build synergising with the obscure perks that is geared to trying to help win the game. You often have the element of surprise because the killer never expects a 0.2% pick rate perk! I certainly won't be throwing even if I get hooked trying to do the Spine Chill one.

Yes, I completely forgot about the Dark Sense addition until a little later after my response. 😂
A lot of the challenges that they make, make you have to borderline throw the game. It's why a lot of the time I usually do the easier ones or try to do specific challenges towards the end of the game if I need to.

@danielmaster87 , yes I have no idea why they thought it was a great idea to make it so the survivor has to make it to the end without being hooked at all.
I don't think I even have it done because of how much it makes you look like a selfish player and it is completely against my way of playing as a survivor as I'm pretty selfless in general.

I hate that I have to say this, but eventually you die so much … your MMR puts you in lobbies where you can actually accomplish those things. There is hope and you will finish those challenges. I know from personal experience. I had to force myself to stop doing old archives until 2026 because it was starting to negatively affect my mood in real life. After game 10 of trying to get a challenge, it really eats at you.

Oh my God, Wolfe. 😂
This is precisely why I opt to do the easier challenges. I still have not completed the Dead Hard, No Mither, have a survivor wiggle off with Break Out, or anything else. I usually just go for challenges that coincide with my current playstyle. If anything, I would change the challenges to be much more accessible than they are currently to avoid issues like throwing the game to ultimately die or just like Wolfe here said — to avoid lowering your MMR so much that it just puts you into the lesser played lobbies.

Just a thought. The use Spine Chill one, if you get hooked and someone Shoulders the Burden on you, and you escape with zero hook states, do you complete the challenge?!

A lot of the early tomes were very hard, but the complete gutting of perks like Spine Chill made it so much worse. Don't get me started on those "Open the hatch with a key and escape" challenges that remain even after the changes to hatch.
3 -
Yeah, they got rid of the one key/hatch challenge that was literally impossible, but none of them should remain, really. The frequency of opportunities to unlock a hatch is nowhere near what it once was (without throwing the match, anyway). It used to be like every other match.
1 -
opening a hatch with a key 2 times sure was a memorable one lol. Mostly u end up a tunnel target for bringing a key, if any match goes the wrong way you either lose the key or a ring addon, and it requires either everyone leaving the doors or dieing, having the killer find the hatch, close it, and not find you before you find it lol. Took quite a few keys. I also 100%ed the achievements, somehow even had the one where all 4 people escape in the hatch before it changed.

They didn't get rid of it, they changed it and made it even more annoying because yes, you almost have to throw a match and sandbag your teammates for even a CHANCE.

Fortunately I did most of the key/hatch challenges out of the way back in their heyday, and the "Where Did They Go?" Trophy/Achievement.
I couldn't be bothered to even try any of them now. I think I've opened the hatch with a key one time in the years since they were changed, and that's just because I found one in a chest in the EGC.

with pain and suffering. At least those were real challenges. Now they are like "Touch a gen. Complete this in a single trial" 🤦🏼♀️

oof good luck! Ironically I did that challenge twice, once on switch when it first came out and then when I got a playstation and rebought the game (this was way before cross progression) and both times I got the 4 gen challenge against a Pig. First on Coldwind with some cracked out survivors who just bullied the Pig all game and left me for dead after I did all 5 generators and the second on MacMillan, nothing scarred me that match so besides the realm I don't remember it LMAO.

I did the hatch escape one at Christmas. Didn't go in with a key but ran Ace in the Hole, Appraisal, Plunderers Instinct and Left Behind. Didn't feel too bad to do because you get quite a few decent items each match and more often than not you would get a Purple or Iri key at some point, as well as decent Toolboxes and Medkits for you and the team to use. This way the killer doesn't suspect it as they don't see the key at the start and with Left Behind it's easy to find the hatch without taking a hatch offering. Still need a lot of things to go in your favour but wasn't too awful to do and don't sandbag the team too much with all the strong items you get.
