Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

the oni PTB changes are out of touch

For those unaware, PTB oni’s turn rate is capped at 90 degrees in demon dash. Previously he could go further if you play on mouse.

Just because something isn’t intended doesn’t mean it’s bad for the game. Oni 180s existed for years and became a core part of his playstyle, giving him a high skill ceiling while not being overpowered (yes, oni was balanced with 180s)

For those who bring up hardware limitations, I get it. I played on console for years and switched to PC recently. I know how much oni sucks on controller. But this change just drags PC players down with you and doesn’t actually do anything good for the killer. This isn’t the right direction.

Allow oni to go beyond 90 degrees on all inputs. This would balance him out across all platforms without completely destroying the identity of the killer

if the flick is "skill expression" then keeping the turn rate but making his hitbox precise to the club swing would surely add MORE skill expression, right? because its ALL about skill expression and high skill ceiling, not 4 man slug stomping average teams with an exploit for years, right??

the turn rate limit was balanced around his swing having a giant oversized hitbox like Demo's lunge. if Oni exploiters want the unlimited turning, at least having a precise hitbox would keep it balanced (while also making his skill expression higher). didn't think it was that complicated.

you don't counter Oni during his power, you force 50/50s on him.

Let's not pretend that being able to juke him mid power was some kind of counter at all, if you give good Oni an easy 1st hit it's gg in any way, with flicks or not.

180s added depth to playing him. Locker 180s, mid air 180s, blind 180s, it literally added a completely new dimension of skill expression to him and was literally what made difference between average and good player.

Also, people sing consoles as an excuse for removing it is the lamest thing anyone could do.

Ohh and, nobody asked for any number buffs or anything, why don't yall get it at all? Ask any passionate Oni main or Oni one-trick, none of them will ask for buffs in conpensation for removal of Oni's literal signature move.

BHVR hates skill expression because this community hates skill expression in any form, that's all i need to know.

They'll cut a leg and an arm of every single other killer in the game before they finally start doing something about Nurse. These devs are so puzzling sometimes.

I am 100% fine with reducing hitbox. I agree that would make him more difficult.

But they simply removed it, which does reduce skill expression, because it wasn't really easy to do and it makes Oni more boring imo.

What can be done to compensate when his power does not feel fun and powerful anymore? I loved playing the Oni because I knew that I could theoretically outplay almost every Survivor on almost any tile of the game. This is what made him an A Tier Killer. Not too strong, but very menacing when in his power. He already has his downsides because you have to a) injure Survivors to activate his power and b) use the time in his power wisely. Survivors learned to outplay him in the past couple of years pretty consistent (even with the 180 flick). There are already very few players who are playing the Oni and I am afraid that he will now just fall off into the "never being played" category.

I'm sometimes on them when I'm high on anger. That's as close as I get.

His turning should either be locked that way, or allow console players the same range of last-second movement. Pick one. And no compensatory buffs. What you have now is a killer who's uncounterable when played on PC, more than Spirit or Deathslinger ever were (they weren't), and who barely functions on console because of how bad the hitbox/turn rate is.

Okay, I read some of the post on this thread and it's clear a lot people don't know what they are talking about.

Lets start with the hitbox misunderstanding, Oni's dash attack functions nearly the same as blights dash attack when it comes to hitboxs. For the first frame or two of the attack the hitbox starts at a wide cone close to the killers model and as the attack continues forward, that cone narrows.. lot. That is why if you see a Oni 180 flick while touching a survivor it will always hit no matter where the club lands. Which in turns makes corning against a Oni who can flick a dumb idea. The draw back to that though if an Oni is touching a wall at all when they start their flick, it will always bump, canceling the attack. So you know that the hitbox narrows as the attack continue, leading me to my next topic counter play.

For the people who think the counter play to Oni is getting around a corner and cornering up if the Oni can't flick. You're wrong. A good Oni doesn't need to flick. They canceled their dash at the corner and insta down with their m1 before the survivor can get anywhere, shocking I know, people can have brains.

So if corning isn't the play? What is? Be random, if you think the Oni will cancel dash, hold w, if you think the Oni will 180 flick, flare out. If you have some distance and you flare the Oni will mostly miss, because the hitbox narrows and the Oni will have guessed wrong on your location. It's the same with blight, if you think they will flick around a corner, flare out and they will miss.

People going on about unfair because consoles can't do it, I get it but that's a silly argument. Specially since BHVR announced they are adding mouse and keyboard support to consoles by the end of the year.
