Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

What happened to Coldwind?

This realm has been nerfed time and time again to the point where it’s barely playable half the time. The maps have huge dead zones with only corn, all the main buildings have been nerfed (except torment creek), the filler loops have been made INCREDIBLY weak and a 80/20 in the killer’s favor, the landmarks like cow tree and harvester have been nerfed time and time again, and most recently in August they added new very weak maze tiles that have the same weight as a jungle gym. How much more will the developers go to nerf this realm into the ground? The problems with coldwind was mainly og cowshed but that got reworked so I don’t know why they keep gutting this realm every few patches. I just had a game on rotten fields where every single maze tiles was one of those new crap tiles, they should at most only have 1 of those spawn on the map and then the others will be TL, pallet gym or jungle gyms. I know there’s other maps that could use some tuning like badham, disturbed ward and GOJ but why do we keep gutting coldwind?

I literally dc in the loading screen if I see my teammate burns a coldwind or haddonfield offering. They think they’re still in 2020 where you can bully killer’s on these realms🤣

I play those matches out, but I am always like "ugh, why are you doing this?".

But they are really nice as Killer, if the Survivors send me to Haddonfield or Coldwind.

Eh, Coldwind is still a pretty good realm overall imo.

Cowshed and Torment Creek are still pretty damn strong for Survivors. Thompson House is very good if you can break the 3 gen early.

I see people complaining about Rotten Fields having no tiles on it and sometimes I wonder if we're playing the same map. That map has very strong fillers and is very good unless you're up against a Blight or something.

Rancid Abattoir kind of got screwed though, it could do with a couple more fillers to smooth out the deadzones.

I was just thinking this yesterday when I was playing a survivor match on Rotten Fields. That map is one giant dead zone.

The other Coldwind maps aren’t too bad, IMO. But I don’t know what the F the map designers were thinking on Rotten Fields.

rotten fields is like a og cowshed from temu 🤣. All the tiles and loops are on the outskirts of the map but are so spread out that you can’t really chain anything together

The original Coldwind farm use to be really difficult as Killer mainly due the main buildings and the RNG that use to spawn, which was quite frankly insane.

The map itself hasn't "shrinked", they've removed all the fog making the map appear smaller when it isn't, with the addition of also removing majority of the corn that use to be present. This I don't know why. (the map outlines still match the previous, pre-reworked versions of 152 square tiles)

But from the maps changes, especially from "The Realm Beyond" has seemed to of absolutely gutted these maps, to the point where I love it when I'm the killer, but dreading in a solo queue situation as I know the pallets will be all gone by the time we've got to 3 gens. At least AutoHaven and MacMillian didn't get the same fate, but it's sad to see Coldwind get it.

Bout the only one that is bearable is Thompson house.

Rest of them just yikes. With rotten fields making me laugh every time it loads up

In my opinion the only Coldwin map which needed a major nerf was Cowshed, it was ridiculously unbalanced. In fact it was the map with the least killrate according to some statistics BHVR showed two years ago or so.

Other Coldwind maps were simply too big (specially Rotten Fields).

Also, making the whole realm daytime is a thing I won't never forgive BHVR. Part of its charm was crossing the corn fields at night.

Official Killrates for these maps would be nice to have in this kind of discussions.

It's pointless even complaining about this one, you're like the 630457th person to mention this and yet it stays as is…

It's important to note after they made changes to the map tile generation in the 8.3.0 PTB and allowed it going live, which was meant to reduce bugs and changes of tiles appearing more or less commonly seems to have made some maps spawn with a lack of good tiles for survivors to use.

Isn't Fluxard and Torment Creek still a survivor side map depending on how the chase positions are connected? There's a generation that can chase against 4.6m/s killers for a long time from jungle gym to pallet to shack, and you can also chase near the main building for a reasonable amount of time.

It's hard to say because Thompson's House is very balanced depending on the placement of the Gen. Rotton Field has always been a flawed map. Unless they add more buildings or something, the size of the map just determines which side has the advantage.

Yup anytime I see survivors brining cold wind am like lord Jesus, anytime it's killer I know it's something bs. Can't wait for map offering nerfs yet its a shame it wasn't just remove them. Getting low on sac wards and don't wanna waste BP until I get Trevor to 100.

Not just the corn, they took out the majority of the trees that used to be on the outskirts as well

They made changes to Torment Creek as well, such as the hole in the wall next to the old infinite window in the main structure. It is really not that strong for survivors anymore, and especially with many killers having high mobility these days, getting distance is tough.
Rancid Abattoir is just horrid to play as survivor now, since the main building got severely nerfed, and most tiles on the outside are pretty bad and unsafe.
I would somewhat agree that Thompson House is more balanced, but it is really not great. It's too open, especially in front of the house, since the corn got nerfed, and the trees got taken away.
Cowshed is fine. I find it pretty balanced nowadays.
And Rotten Fields is just way too open, since the corn amount got nerfed a lot.

That is my take on Coldwind in its current state.

I don't understand the hate either. I've seen bad Autohaven generations more often than I've seen a bad farm map. Maybe they don't like the junk tiles, but it's been proven time and again you can actually run those. I'd like to see the weakest echelon of maps be brought closer to the upper echelon of them, equalizing them. But I don't think farm maps right now are nearly as weak as most claim.
