Nostromo Wreckage, a Wasted Opportunity?
Recently rewatched ALIEN for the first time in a while and I can't help but feel like the Nostromo map was a huge waste of an opportunity for a really cool unique type of map.
Imagine if instead of being a wrecked version with an external map, we had a large fully-intact Nostromo in space with lots of rooms, corridors, air-ducts, vent shafts etc. similar to Alien Isolation. This could give you all sorts of opportunities for sneakily picking people off one by one similarly to the movie. When all the gens are repaired it could have the map's lighting switch to emergency lights and play the self destruct sequence audio from the movie (similar to how the Silent Hill map does it) to time with the endgame countdown. The exits could even be the shuttle and escape pods so it's actually like you're activating the self destruct to flee the ship before it blows.
With that said don't get me wrong, I think it's an awesome map with such really cool easter eggs and attention to detail with so many references to the movie. However I'd be interested to see if anyone else thinks that this idea for an alternative version of the map would have been even cooler.

While it sounds cool in theory, indoor maps have a pretty bad reputation and I cant see how Nostromo would of been any different, no matter how aesthetically pleasing it would be. Original RPD (and current) is a great example of this, it was very faithful to the source material but it had so many flaws and the design didnt really fit with DbDs gameplay.
I think they did pretty good with the map being a hybrid, but there could be a few tweaks. Mainly the exit gates and the corners by main building being pretty barren at times

Loath as I am to say it, the entire Alien chapter is a wasted opportunity. Xeno's power could've been so much more, but just wasn't, we didn't get Sigourney as Ellen, and Nostromo didn't even get a unique realm (but did get a map offering??). It an interesting combination, where some parts of the Chapter (like the main building & shack replacement) feel like they were meticulously crafted over three years, and others feel like they were cobbled together using leftover code and a three-day Red Bull binge

dont diss the redbull binge

it’s a really garbage map tbh I hate it for both sides always did always will

Yeah I was extremely disappointed when the map came out. Huge missed opportunity for the map being on a ship in space.

It was kinda cool at the time to see such another Alien planet, especially with how different it looked from Toba Landing, but I agree in retrospect that the current map feels like a missed opportunity. The aesthetic is cool but doesn't quite get across the series claustrophobic isolationism and the ship being an almost clinical reflection of the sort of violent beauty that is the Xenomorph.
From the gameplay side of things, indoor maps can be a bit of a controversial inclusion, though we'll probably be seeing one soon with FNAF. Honestly, since Nostromo already struggles with being so clutter filled, I don't think it would've been that big an issue if the whole map were designed like the indoor parts of the wreckage are given how intersecting and wide it can be.

Funny enough I actually really enjoy the indoor maps, especially RPD, since they are such a refreshing change from all the generic maps that are basically just reskins of "open field with random vaults/pallets/lockers and a building in the middle with a shack". However with that being said, I think that's really just me being an outlier on the whole thing, just like how I actually really like it when Survivors hide and play stealthily instead of just fearlessly running around.

Absolutely, this is EXACTLY my point, can't agree more! The claustraphobia and isolation is such a huge part of what makes ALIEN distinct, yet the map really doesn't capture that aspect at all.

TThe Map was a lot cause at launch 😂 the loop and pallets are unique to that map with almost ever jungle gym being completely usless u have pallets at a jungle gym that can be swung around same thing with most windows on that map the follow siute for the singularity map and alien both verry horrible map team

I could never diss the redbull binge that is the only thing getting me through my degree

I wouldn't of minded both an outdoor and indoor map for it.

It just needs to be two maps: A massive "inside the Nostromo" indoor one, and a bit sprawling "outside the Nostromo outdoor one. This half and half approach doesn't work for anyone either Killer or Survivor, genuinely my least favorite map in the game on both sides.

Whole alien chapter was a massive disappointment.
Alien: Fast, strong, powerful, wall/ceiling crawling acid blooded killer.
DBD: Slow and don't hurt me with a turret.
Absolutely rubbish especially on console where 90% is spent as M1 killer.
Map is okay with mix of inside and outside.
But definitely a wasted licence.

IDK most casual players love the indoor maps, it seems to be a people who only play DBD who hate them half the time.
I love all of the indoor maps on both sides as I love the attention to detail and how they've made iconic locations into interactable loops etc. and often they only mess over S tier high mobility killers, oh no… terrible….
It's always DBD only players who moan about licensed maps for the most part. Nostromo is the perfect example why they should never listen to DBD players lol its boring to look at and play in and I hate it as an alien fan aside from the interior easter egss and references.1 -
The ships do not work as maps, except for the ship from Alien 4 maybe, because it's so huge. Even has a basketball court. The Alien map I was predicting was the place from Alien 3. The junk yard, the quarters, the medical area, the tunnels, the lead facility, the catwalk/fence area. There's so much you could include. The more popular grounded area would be the colony from Aliens, of course, but I sometimes like to go for things that are less obvious.

"it seems to be a people who only play DBD who hate them half the time."
Most casuals dont like indoor maps either considering their harder to navigate. Licensed maps for the most post are complained about since their designs just arent that great. Haddonfield is another great example of a map that looks great visually, but is terrible gameplay wise.

This, hawkins, and toba.
All can just get yeeted. Wouldnt miss them in the slightest.1 -
What's wrong with dbds best level ever, Toba Landing?
-1 -
they are always the same everytime and the easiest to learn, so that's not true. Exit gates are always in the same places also, basement is normally in the same place every time.
It's just not the case, it's literally dbd only players, all my friends love the licensed maps, love the references. Not to mention they are the best for more jump scare builds like stealth killers for a more horror experience.1 -
It doesnt matter if theyre the same every time, anybody who hasnt played RE2make has a tough time navigating the map since at the end of the day its a bunch of tight corridors. Once you know it its easy, but it takes time to learn it.
also what are you on about "its only dbd players" like... yeah? arent we all? Just because some one plays the game more casual doesnt mean they arent a dbd player, and just because your circle of friends like indoor/licensed maps doesnt mean everyone does. I myself dont mind them too much, but I know Im in the minority here.

It does matter because it's no different from learning an unlicensed map that has a consistent layout, so lol?
And no the statement comes from watching all the popular streamers throwing out this opinion that people parrot, rather than coming up with their own, and I'm gonna say it now if we get a pizzeria and it's not more portion of it being indoors compared to outdoors, it's gonna be disliked by the majority.
We want the iconic locations being the focus, not random moon or forest number 233 -
Interactions that are only on certain maps would be Awsome and that could have started here. Have vents Survivors can crawl through with the risk that a killer can pull them from the vent if found and pick them up immediately. Imagine the fear as you are crawling through a vent to reach a gen and you see the someone like Nemesis walking right outside the vent.
2 -
Youre right, it is no different. Which is why earlier we were talking about indoor maps in general which is why RPD was brought up.
The whole content creator parroting is true in some cases, but the moment some one shares the same opinion as an influencer it isnt their opinion anymore. This isnt something exclusive to DbD either, this is just general thing. Also those same people may watch these creators because them and their communities are like minded.
As for the pizzaria idk what to tell you but it is more than likely going to be half indoors half outdoors considering Im gonna bet its either gonna be one of these 3 locations: The original pizzaria from the first game, Fazbears Fright, or the one seen in the movie. None of these are big enough to be maps of their own.

My strongest opinion on the map is that it tanks my FPS to 20 or less so playing it is extremely unenjoyable.

The Nostromo map was a missed opportunity for sure, but I have no strong feelings one way or the other about it. It's just…meh. Could have something great, but it's not even remarkable enough to hate (though the easter eggs are cool).
The thing that galls me is the Temu Ripley. Ripley's an icon and should only have been done if Weaver agreed to it, imo.

I wouldve loved it as an indoor map. Wouldve loved if we got Sigourney weaver. Wouldve loved if the alien had better stealth mechanics. But it is what it is. Nearly every licence in the game is missing something that wouldve made it feel complete, in aliens case there were several missing things. Castlevania also missed several opportunities, the map, the cosplays instead of legendaries etc
