Queues have been awful for killer
I literally started playing survivor because there have been 4 days straight where I just couldn't play killer. I JUST got my first killer game today during the blood moon after going through an entire prestige for a killer while waiting.
The last time I was able to get into a killer game was in the Kaneki PTB.
The killer queue is awful, I might HAVE to stop playing this game if the queue doesn't improve. Waiting over 30 minutes just for the opportunity to run into 4 survivors who go out of their way to make the game as boring as possible? It's not worth it.

Well, you're saying that everyone wants to play killer, including yourself. Why is it you don't want to play survivor? If even the queue bonus isn't enough, what would you change so that more people would play survivor?
49 -
or…. Nobody wants to play survivor because they made it a miserable experience and now killers have to wait longer for games? Play with buddies weekly and have for 2 years now - we’re doing Phas tonight. Behaviour did this - we told them for months it was less and less fun and they announced “quality of life” and then immediately after released The Ghoul lol. Just embarrassing.
41 -
Months? More like years, just under 4 years to be exact. They have beating solo survivor to the ground for almost 4 years now.
34 -
I’ve never seen the queue times shift as much as they have with this new killer. It really tells you how unfun it is to play survivor now when killer queues are long even during peak evening times.
25 -
Survivor wasn’t bad at all before Ghoul released. I play solo queue and it was fine up until Ghoul. If you’re playing SWF friends on comms and still can’t have fun as survivor, that’s a you problem.
-34 -
Delete Ghoul - that would get more people to play survivor.
15 -
agreed - it hasn’t been perfect but I’ve kept coming back every Friday for a reason.
But this…. This is absurd, and the fact that they haven’t fixed it yet just tells you they don’t care for veteran/consistent players compared to new anime fans paying money now. Just, time to play something else and sounds like (based on killer times) I’m not alone. Sorry all, but they know what they’re doing, they just don’t care.
4 -
i suspect it isn’t that they want to play killer (which yes, many do), it’s that so many other folks quit - which I would think should be scary, sooner or later folks will develop new habits and not come back.
5 -
They'll just take 6 months to a year to Skull Merchant Ghoul, have fun until then lol. I played 10 matches since Ghoul released and all were Ghoul, at least with Skull Merchant I didn't see her every match.
11 -
The cause is no survivors. Why would anyone play survivor when the game is so unbalanced? It's the question most people refuse to acknowledge.
24 -
Ghoul happened. Broken killer, and people rush in to play. Survivors have a miserable experience and play less survivor.
25 -
It's rather easy to see your real intent behind these posts. Kaneki wasn't even out of the PTB before this started. I said as much. I left the PTB because the queues were just as bad there as they are now. Going to live servers didn't fix that. If Kaneki were the problem, it wouldn't have started before he came out.
Not to mention- survivor WAS awful before ghoul released. Playing survivor is always miserable because of other survivors, the killer usually is almost a non factor some matches. Having people actively throwing in every way possible, just to kill themselves on hook? It was constant.
Saying the queue "shifted" is outright dishonest. As I said earlier, Kaneki was in the PTB when this started. If survivors dropped the game even BEFORE Kaneki came out, then that's a good sign those weren't players worth prioritizing. They need people who will buy thing and actually play the game. Not people on forums complaining about stuff before they have even tried it, just to leave when they fix it anyway.
I have played against ghoul after the release- they weren't NEARLY as awful in either match compared to how people described them.
Heck, the "ghoul is OP" talk didn't even begin until AFTER the PTB was over. Before that everyone just hated him because "anime" and the fact they thought he was weak and buggy (which he was, sometimes you couldn't even use your power) I saw no one saying he was going to be a good killer.
-12 -
my dude … lolwut?
3 -
Nothing I said is wrong. Even before PTB ended Survivor queue had the blood point bonus consistently.
11 -
Disregarding the people assuming the ghoul is the sole cause of everything wrong with the queue right now- it's actually rather simple.
Survivors are the biggest problem, ironically.
The way the other people play is consistent and without skill. I try to go a support build? Even if I am the only one doing so, everyone else rushes towards hook like flies to dung. None of them actually benefit for getting the person off beyond the blood points, so my build is useless because people who aren't even using a kit that makes them more effective at it try to "save" another survivor- even when it just means they are more likely to lose ANOTHER hook state because the killer followed them running across the map to the hook. I try to do a gen build? Great, now we have 1 survivor consistently doing gens- except I'm lucky if I'm not forced to keep chase the entire game because all the other survivors can't last more than 30 seconds running from the killer. That would be fine, except even when not being harassed by the killer I see them doing nothing. No Chest, No totem, no generator, no healing. Doing not a thing.
When they get hooked? 9 times out of 10 they are rushing themselves to the second hook state, assuming they don't just go all the way and immediately spam the skill check to get them at the final death by the time I reach them.
The devs added an anti-face camp feature. The only downside was if a survivor kept hanging around as the killer camped- they essentially wasted their own time while also making it take longer for the survivor to be able to get off the hook. The solution would be simple: if a killer is camping- rush gens while they do so and punish the killer for playing that way. You don't hear about them doing that at all.
The Devs gave survivors Borrowed Time without needing the perk, and then made the perk increase the duration that effect lasts. Survivors still say tunneling is a problem, even after they are given endurance and haste when they get off the hook.
Survivors can't communicate? They add a UI to let you all see what others are doing even without using a perk. No changes in how survivors play, everyone still upset that other survivors aren't being useful.
The devs add more things to help survivors over time, and yet survivors never even imply things have improved. Why?
Because Survivors are what holds the role back, not mechanics. The devs need to actually start having negative consequences to punish players who sabotage their team (I'm sure you can think of plenty of ways that someone can sabotage their team. Simply make that an experience WORSE for the person doing it). Killing yourself on Hook? If you try to unhook yourself too consistently, and then also don't hit the 2nd hook state skill checks? Lose all of your survival category blood points. It requires a specific habit of behavior that makes the game harder for those in the match with you to win, and doesn't affect players unless they specifically are the ones doing it. Hit your skill checks on hook? Then you don't get the penalty, same thing for not trying to get off hook. Both of which mean you take longer to die and allow the team a chance to save you/win the game.
I'd LOVE to play survivor consistently, but it's OTHER SURVIVORS that make it a chore, not the game itself.
-12 -
I agree with you there. My teammates are the worst thing about the game. I take long breaks from DbD because this 1v1v1v1v1 thing just isn't fun.
About the only thing that can fix the problem of bad teammates is smarter SBMM. Right now the matchmaking is garbage. I trace back pretty much every problem I have with survivor gameplay to SBMM and the reward system in general. In normal mode I'm having teammates hide in nearby lockers and wait until the gen I'm working on is 98% complete before they come out and tap it for that little 1k BP bonus (okay, with the community multiplier that's currently 3k, but they're being freaking useless all that time hiding in a locker). Completion bonuses on gens highlight BHVR's backwards thinking that the outcome is the only thing that matters. In a game where survivors are only meant to win 40% of the time, the gameplay and participation should be the important part of playing survivor. If the outcome is the only thing that matters, which is what SBMM seems to think, then playing survivor really sucks.
Edit: I know there is supposed to be an update to SBMM in the QoL updates BHVR is doing. Obviously, whether or not it will improve anything remains to be seen.

what’s my “real intent”, since you can apparently read my mind?
The queue times shifted a lot just after Ghoul was released. How do I know? I actually play both sides. Every evening during peak times, killer queue times are very quick (at least in my region - eastern US). Immediately after Ghoul was released, killer queue times were longer the survivors queues even during peak evening times. I’ve never seen that happen before, even with previous killer releases.
3 -
Maybe on top of the Goul is the fact that alot of killers are bugged since last patch. i cannot play my 3 main killers atm becuase of severe bugs.
2 -
I wish the devs could finally acknowledge how terrible solo q is. It's getting worse with each update. There's literally no point in playing survivor over killer
25 -
You are right on the verge of figuring out that the solo queue problem is YOUR problem too
16 -
For a balanced queue time, you always need 80% of players wanting to play survivor and 20% wanting to play killer.
At the moment, many players want to play killer as the Ghoul has just released, and this is normal every time a new killer is released.
However, this is compounded by the fact that survivors don't like the new killer and too many matches are against this same killer, so they've stopped playing until either the Ghoul gets nerfed or people slow down in using him as killer all the time.
And if you're trying to log onto the normal game as killer, the queue times are compounded by the fact that maybe half the survivors are playing the Blood Moon event, whilst killers are sticking to the normal game, because the Blood Moon event just doesn't have many benefits for the killers, so even though half the survivors are off playing Blood Moon, maybe only 10% killers are playing Blood Moon.
So in summary, you have a huge surge of killers playing in the normal game, and very few survivors, which is unbalancing the match queue times.

Literally, this is the most frustrating patch I've played in a while

Maybe they will do so for FNAF. Because in the end, SoloQ is currently the worst experience and most players are SoloQ. And most likely the vast majority of new players will be SoloQ as well. And if you want to keep them, you need to have improvements for Solos. (Which the Devs start to do, e.g. with the Pentimento-Nerf)
17 -
Solo queue is most definitely the most frustrating its ever been & i've been playing solo for 8 years.
3 main reasons
- Ghoul released, people want to play him, understandable, he's strong enough to pick up & get good results quickly, boosts his pick rate, he gets some absolutely bs hits that make hunteress hitbox seem tiny, survivors are sick of dealing with it & went killer or left for a while,
- Most survivors don't like tunnelling, its been rampant for a long time but its definitely still rising & I can't remember the last ghoul I played against that didn't try turbo tunnel someone out, so again survivors switch sides or drop the game
- "Teammates" have never been worse, players give up or DC at the drop of a hat, sometimes its understandable (still annoying but I can see why) other times its just baffling or utterly childish. Though this has always been an issue solo players have been worn down month after month update after update, matchmaking needs drastic changes (not going to happen) more players will give up for good, join a swf or switch to killer can hardly blame them
7 -
Yeah I concur with all the points made here about solo q being pretty much worse than ever. Only worse time for solo q I can think of was maybe eruption + overcharge gen kick meta a few years ago.
I understand why 6.1 happened, but god has it been more or less horrible for solo survivors since that update.
Nothing's worse than feeling like your actions have no consequences regarding the outcome of a match and this feeling is pretty much at its peak atm.
6 -
I can't speak for all killer players, but I rarely play survivor because it is more boring. It's not about the outcome or how killers play, it's the simple fact that, while playing killer, I get to be in chase nearly all the time and, as a survivor, I have to wait to play the game while doing various chores around the map, which I find boring killer is just the more engaging role.
3 -
Ghoul got released a couple of days and the whole event isn't helping that much in queue. The killer queue will prob go back to normal next week or something.
1 -
It's funny how everyone in this post is acting like I am against improvement to solo queue.
I don't recall where I implied solo queue isn't awful in this post?
Don't get me wrong, it isn't mentioned enough how the SURVIVOR'S BEHAVIORS are the major problem plaguing solo queue, however there is still room for improvement on the dev side of things (especially in terms of punishing people for throwing and giving up).
I have been playing solo queue survivor, I have SEEN how easily most of you give up and actively throw in one way or another. The reason I hate survivor isn't the gameplay, I actually LIKE playing survivor. It's just on average survivors suck far worse than is reasonable, assuming they aren't actively sabotaging. Solo queue isn't the problem, we just aren't willing to admit that the survivor half of the community sucks FAR MORE than people are willing to admit (in terms of skill, and with how they treat each other). I would love to play both sides, but the other people ON MY TEAM make the experience less fun- forcing me to the killer role.
Yes, fix solo queue- I never said otherwise and acting like I did is being disingenuous. However, there is a very obvious trend for survivors to not at all question how they personally can improve at the game.
News flash: You don't need to escape to rise in ranks. It's just the EASIEST way to do that. Saving survivors? Repairing gens? Touching Totems? Looping the killer? ALL of those can get your match rank up. It's about being GOOD ENOUGH at all of those to pull your weight. Most of you struggle to do more than repair gens and unhook other survivors- if that. How can we expect solo queue being better to solve your problems when you can't even play the game properly?
-9 -
You don't even need to play both sides. It straight up tells you which side has less people playing when it gives them the blood point bonus.
The shift had gone to survivors BEFORE the ghoul even left PTB. I am in eastern US, I have been experiencing this since before the update. You might have noticed it more after ghouls was release, and they might have made it worse, but the problem was already there.
4 -
I was playing survivor solely for a while minimal issues really besides the usual team mates, but 2 days after kaneki I went back to killer. I can tolerate awful team mates and go nexters even a nurse, but kaneki I won't. Other people might have additional reasons for not playing survivor but I have 1 reason and 1 reason only. Kaneki.
4 -
They dont want to admit to themselves why that is the case.
Killer que times is so terrible, because survivors simply dont want to play.
For good fn reason too. This latest killer is a complete middle finger.16 -
Well, if ranks came back, then the emblems would matter again. All they do now is giving progress towards a grade.
MMR only increases from escapes as survivor. There is the problem.7 -
Yeah, imagine butchering survivors for 3 or 4 years now with nerfs and new awful map designs - one strong pallet in the entire map and everything else is the weakest "loops" that makes Z wall look strong. And releasing killers with multiple powers who are better versions of old killers with new maps which make the problem even worse. And Mr ghoul was cherry on top and made survivors gave up - I know I did. Haven't touched dbd since ghoul was released. At some point addiction will kick back in and I'll play again, but bhvr is doing very good job at making returns to dbd as miserable as possible and usually 3 games is all it takes to take another brake from dbd.
11 -
It's just because of Kaneki being incredibly fun to play and incredibly miserable to play against.
Killer queues always take longer around killer releases. It's worse this time though because is a really fun, really strong, and a very recognisable character, so everyone wants to play him right. Add in the fact that there's nothing new for survivors to play with AND the insanely popular killer is completely awful to play against, there's no reason to actually want to play survivor right now when 9/10 games are Kaneki. If they had released a survivor with fun perks alongside him I don't think it would've been as bad, but they didn't so I can't blame anyone for not wanting to play survivor this update.
Once they nerf Kaneki it will go back to how it was. Which hopefully is sooner rather than later.
3 -
Solo queue isn't the problem, we just aren't willing to admit that the survivor half of the community sucks FAR MORE than people are willing to admitWe all own the same game. For your hypothesis to be true, why is it that the players which 'suck' are attracted to the survivor side, even as that side gets decimated.
7 -
phasmo fan as well? I started playing phasmo after my enjoyment of dbd died after the first 2v8 and needing to wait 20 mins to play killer lol
Solo Q survivor is always miserable, and even with a duo, survivor sucks. The core game is broken for both sides, and the game needs a complete overhaul before it's too late. Sadly, bhvr dont want to make an effort to fix the game, they are focused o ly on making a quick buck with cosmetics...
1 -
Well, there is event which gives nothing to survivior (only finishing the gen gives you decent BP) offers a lot of BP to killer - 2k points for hitting surv with a fuel can, 5k for hooking them with it.
Kaneki got released is a broken state, which surviviors refuse to play/find it miserable.
Killer bp gain equals surviviors 2-3 bloody party stacking. Some people play other games, some people want to grind as a killer at this point.
I personally don't play without 3-4 man stack now. It's not great.
90-95% of the games are kanekis and blights at high mmr in europe. It's just hard for surviviors right now. Even with arguably survivor-sided event.
4 -
the time crunch playing as survivor is incredibly strenuous in todays dbd, especially if you’re playing solo or duo. The matches are so fast paced, that resetting has become incredibly difficult. Often times you’re forced into a lose lose. It’s lose the gen, or lose the teammate. Lose the gen or teammate to find the totem. Most killers have been tuned so highly that new/average/casuals can’t keep up. It’s shouldn’t be a huge surprise that most people want to play a game where they feel like their inputs matter, in todays dbd most of the time they don’t.
You have to play selfishly at others expense or die a martyr to break Strats so everyone isn’t dying at 5 gens, only for them to start dying at 3-If you’re not high mmr 4 swf- It’s honestly so much less stressful and feels better to play killer than it does survivor. Most of your decisions boil down to do I want to 4k or do I want to let some go and start throwing this match so I’m not hemorrhaging bp from closing this out too early? Anyways the asymm on this asymm is asymming a little too hard.
6 -
the thing is a lot more players are playing killer especially Ghoul because he’s a new killer. Hopefully in a week or 2 the queues will go back to normal.
0 -
Everyone wants to play as the new killer but very few want to play against him
4 -
There's a pretty large disconnect historically between the devs and players when it comes to survivor. Many of the pain points on solo survivor are seen as features by the devs.
There's a glaring problem right now. There is a direct translation between improving your skills on killer and winning more. That doesn't really exist when it comes to solo survivor.
Your outcomes on survivor are still completely determined by matchmaking more often than not. Your skill does not matter even at 5k hours. If you get matched with a completely dysfunctional teammate or two, you lose, and there's nothing you could have done to change that outcome. In other games, a good player can carry. Not the case in DbD. The killer doesn't have to engage with a good player if they don't want to. They can tunnel out a weak link and guarantee a win. Completely turns me off from the game most days.
17 -
The queues were good this weekend. I was getting xeno lobbies in literally under 10 seconds but my survivor duo queue was over a minute.
-1 -
I don't think so. A near-instant queue being the standard doesn't make a 1-minute queues "forever," and that's pretty much what I've been getting as killer. Haven't felt long queues since like the first week of the new killer's release.
Then again, it could be my region giving me great queue times.
-1 -
I think it could be region. I watched Choy streaming last night (he's Germany) and he was playing Left 4 Dead for 10 minutes while waiting for a killer game. It was a long time. The games were shorter than the queues like a roller coaster
4 -
How could you even fix that fact? Killer players that are trying to get better or complaining about Gen speeds/SWF are advised to avoid good loopers and go after weak links
-2 -
I was not thrilled about the killer-only event Tome challenges. I waited something like 8-10 minutes in the killer queue to kick a blood gen, another 8-10 minutes to hit someone carrying a can, etc. This isn't as egregious as killer-only 2v8 challenges, but with the current state of the queue BHVR needs to update the Tome so the killer-only challenges have a survivor option. They don't need to force people to play a role that's already overflowing with players. They're clogging up the queue further with people who don't want to play the role, they're just going to complete the Tome challenge and then watch YouTube while the survivors do gens.
1 -
I hope they rethink spamming event modes out like they have been. It's just too much.

You must be a fellow NA East player, I'd imagine?
