DBD will never become playable game
I’ve definitely spent too much time on this game, but that’s mostly thanks to the many good people I’ve played with.
That being said, I honestly can’t endure this ridiculous creation any longer. I just want to vent here about what frustrates me about the game. I’m not trying to encourage any hate toward the developers or the community.
Years have gone by, and even though the game is objectively much healthier and overall better than it used to be, it’s still in a bad state.
The main issue—and the one that never changes—is the terrible hitboxes. I know, I know, it's caused by latency. But still, it makes the game nearly unplayable because it breaks the core mechanics in almost every match. What’s the point of vaulting if you get hit five meters after you've already vaulted? You’re following the rules, doing what you’re supposed to do, and still get punished—because of lag or some other issue. And it’s not just something that happens occasionally; it happens in nearly every match with only a few exceptions.
I dont need to explain how bad it is that the game only works properly in rare cases. And if these weird hits happened equally when I played survivor and killer, it might be somewhat fair. But unfortunately, when I play killer, it feels like my weapon shrinks—I can't land those “legendary” hits through windows or at the end of pallet vaults like other killers seem to. It's frustrating to see how the game works differently depending on which side you're playing, and it always feels like it's working against you.
There are even hits from the killer when you’re already on the first floor after vaulting, and they’re still on the second floor—same problem as vault hits, just another version of it.
There’s a lot more I could say, but this is the main issue. I don’t want to write a whole novel, so I’ll just add that even though PTB (Public Test Build) exists, the content that makes it to the live server almost always still needs a lot of polishing.
The new event is honestly terrible—not just because it limits most of your killer perks, but also because as a survivor, you can’t collect blood tanks with your teammate if terrain gets in the way, which I doubt is intentional.
The Ghoul is a perfect example of poor design—he can hit through walls and has tunneling potential that’s arguably the best in the game. His Blight/Nurse-like mobility lets him dash and immediatly hit after crossing ton of distance or vaulting a window or pallet, I did it, other killers did it and since he can wound you easily it creates dangerous combination in which I that noticed people refuse to play the game when I pick ghoul and honestly I cant blame them since Im never happy to see him also when I play as survivor. A lot of their killer concepts feel too similar, and the Ghoul just feels like an unbalanced version of Wesker. I think I also already mentioned that I dislike how perks in this game are basically various other forms of aura reading or inflicting alredy existing in multiple perks status effect, there is a creative forum and I believe many peoople created good ideas that could be put in the game, becasue the game doesnt really need another reheated meal in form of tweaked perk varation we already have.
And speaking of tunneling—it’s been ten years and the issue still isn’t solved. Don’t tell me “that’s how it’s supposed to be,” because that’s just dumb. Playing killer without tunneling is harder and more punishing, and even though tunneling and camping have been made more difficult, they’re still the most effective ways to win. That alone shows how fundamentally flawed the game’s design is.
If a major flaw like tunneling can only be fixed by perks, that’s ridiculous. Many of my teammates who die early don’t have “Off the Record” or “Decisive Strike.” Maybe you could say it’s their fault, but it’s crazy that you have to bring certain perks just to not get stomped. That discourages people from picking the perks they actually want to use. I personally always use anti-tunneling perk in whatever build I run, thats why with some experience I would dare to say im fine with being tunneled and dont really mind it however I mind when it happens to others and I doubt less experience player loves being eliminated quickly without much of a chance. And dont get me wrong picking more fun build as killer without much gen pressure can often end in similiar fashion.
There are some other issues I would want to talk about but I think I have written that novel already.
To end this post, I really enjoyed 2v8 mode, I love how they finalyl did something about slugging and I’ve liked many of their ideas of both killers and their powers in recent years like Wesker, Dracula, Vecna, Dredge, or the Unknown. But it feels like the core issues of this game will never be fixed.

The hitboxes are bad, yes. I'm not sure why a hatchet has a hitbox of a beach ball, or why survivors have the hitbox of a cylinder. Maybe it would be too wonky to hit then, idk. Also, latency hits are killer sided, what happens on the killers screen happens irl. Your weapon hitbox didn't shrink, it just displays what actually happens.
The new event…. could have been much better, still not sure why we ditched Lunar New Year events for this. They could have at least readded the blood basins from last year.
Tunneling, well, yeah it can't really be removed. The only asym that achieved that was FT13th, which allowed the killer to kill you instantly.

Honestly, I think all my luck is stored in the hatch hitbox, because I haven’t had a single problem with it in the past year—even though M1 attacks are still as inconsistent as ever. I know my hitbox isn’t actually shrinking; it just feels that way because I can’t land the same hits as others, and suddenly the game starts working the way it’s supposed to.
I understand they can’t just remove tunneling, and that’s exactly why I said the core issues of this game can’t be fixed. To truly solve them, you'd probably need an entirely different game made from scratch.

I wish I could agree with this when I hit a survivor who left a window 2 seconds later, window hits need fixed and I swear its not a latency thing, this is on fast vaults too, I've just started swinging at windows whenever they try and getting the dumbest hits.
It feels like they have a grace period on windows to allow hits on them more easily, and it needs to go.9 -
2v8 needs to be brought back, it's the best mode for casual players. 1v4 sucks.

I feel like tunneling is blown way out of proportion as an issue. I understand it can be frustrating to be killed early, but somehow no one talks about how it could be just as frustrating it is for gens to get done in 5 minutes when you're an inexperienced killer. Frankly, if you're having trouble with getting eliminated early, maybe it would be better to get better at hiding from the killer until you can be good enough to last longer in chase.
I don't have nearly as much exposure to those weird hits OP mentioned either. People seem to claim this happens way more often than it happens to me. That said, I also live in a region right next to where a data center is and I have really good connection to the servers.

5k hours in this none game. I haven't felt this betrayed since playing There is No Game.

That's not even getting into the console optimization… or lack thereof. The game's nearly literally unplayable on Switch.
Maybe they're incapable of fixing the frame drops/general fps or designing the game to not get so screwed over by input lag, but they've never even bothered to add more controller options like dead zone and response curve settings.

In the case of the Switch, I think Nintendo should rightfully take some of the blame for using very underpowered hardware.
I mean, getting an Unreal Engine game to run at all on what is essentially an oversized smartphone with half of a GTX 750 is a feat in of itself. - Yes, the graphics chip in the Switch is Maxwell based. The graphics architecture that debuted in 2013.
I really don't think there are any more optimizations that could be done for the Switch port. Now, if the game is compatible with the upcoming Switch 2, I think that would really help performance a lot, since the new console has around 10 times the graphics capabilities of its predecessor.

Then BHVR should not have released it on the Switch. They should have known before release that the performance wasn't up to par, in which case releasing it and charging people money for it was only going to make players really pissed off.
BHVR's PS4 port and Xbox One port are also un-optimized messes, so the Switch release was really ill-conceived.
My other Nintendo Switch games are great. This is on BHVR for not knowing how to port games but doing it anyway, even on a console they must have known wasn't strong enough to run the game.

Absolutely. I think the mobile version of the game would have made much more sense on the Switch to be completely honest.
But yes, Unreal Engine 4 and 5 games in general has been really hard to optimize on console. PUBG is another example of this. The console ports of that game never ran well either. The only exception of this as far as I know is Fortnite, but that game is literally made by the people behind Unreal Engine.Like you mentioned, other games runs well, because they were likely made specifically for the Switch.
I too believe that BHVR should have never ported DBD onto the Switch in the first place, but in all honesty, the fact that they made it run on the Switch hardware at all, with semi-playable framerates is nothing to scoff at.
I will say that the options for controller tuning should definitely be a priority, in order to make the experience a little bit better for the Switch-players.3 -
Game just feels like its been in beta forever and always will be.
The devs huge missteps are accumulating over time and becoming very tiresome. Perhaps I need another long break.
Played about 10 games and 8 were Ghoul. Thought alright do a build to help the most against them MFT etc…
Next three games didn't face them and was basically a perk slot down lol.
Yeah I vaulted from top of main on garden of joy. I was already falling and then got hit. Seems worse for this kind of thing than it used to be.

It's true, there are just soooooooooooooooooooo many cheater in dbd its just insane. Subtle hack are out of control and if you play long enough you see it.
The difference against a normal player and subtle cheats is day and night, and its killing the game. But holy ######### it's bad

My Wesker friend was playing 2v8 like crazy because there's A LOT of survs BS that can't be done there.
BUT I think the reason you're saying this is because how bad 1v4 is right now. This same friend decided to stop playing killer until Chaos Shuffles end (it will begin immediately after Blood Moon ends).
Says that he's getting very competent survs even with killers he barely play or with the ones he purposely play to lose only to complete challenges.
Split queues + VERY BAD MMR = this scenario where 1v4 is unfun AF.
I think it's the same issue you're having.Post edited by Dadeordye on-1 -
I understand the point of view OP… might I add the fact that they are still coding the game in Blueprints which is easy to do but leads to more complications the longer it goes on and this game is a perfect example of it

2016 Blueprints with some C++ hot sauce on top to spice things up! 🔥 🔥

I mean at this point I would like to see them do the whole game in C++ then Blueprints sprinkled in…. but who am I???

Buy them, then have the game recoded from scratch.
Once that's done so many cool things could be added, like a thorough optimization and a match replay system.

If I had the money I would… but alas I don't have anything but my opinions and time spent in-game

You both are right in your way. This is why Gunn didn't even bother having a Switch version of tcm or Saber with evil dead.
Nintendo always is great with game making compared to Sony and Microsoft, yet hardware making they tend to lose alot but seeing how the switch 2 is nearly 600 dollar( I see 550 atm) which is way more than a regular ps5 that tuns good am hoping maybe now dbd will run great on it.
Back on topic @op yup it's wild that hit boxes are allowed to stay bad forve. I have excellent net 40ping at most or low at like 28 and I still hit I get on survivors when I swear its to be a miss, especially medium vaulting.
I feel fast vaults honestly using medium vaults speed to this day and time. I suggest removing medium vaults but was bashed hard for it. At least seriously fix or buff fast vault distance. Ever watched action movies bvhr?

There's no real protection against cheaters in DBD. I took a two-month break from the game, what was really refreshing btw, and started playing again since yesterday, and I've already encountered three obvious cheaters.
I don't think there are any real plans to address this (with automatic protection) as more bans will lead to a drop in player count.1 -
Yep. The perks are boring because some of them are just remixes of existing perks such as the new survivor healing one and we'll make it.
And plus ghoul is absolutely broken it is not fun to play against them. Blight is borderline the same. It feels like every match is just such an unhealthy competition. A bunch of killers don't even care about having fun they just want to win.
Some games just become a toxic waste of time where survivors just end up hiding for extended periods of time or killers end up gen camping. It's not really fun.

I blame the coding for the game rather then lack of ideas (hopefully)
And even then there will still be problems but if the redesigned the game in C++ I would say that a lot of things will be better
