Suggestion for Licensed Killer and surviver (maybe): Lucy and Kaede (Elfen Lied)
Hey everyone, how’s it going? Since the Tokyo Ghoul license dropped in DBD, I’ve been thinking and I came up with an idea I would like to suggest the character Lucy from Elfen Lied as a potential licensed Killer for Dead by Daylight.
Elfen Lied is a dark and emotionally intense anime and manga that tells the story of Lucy, a Diclonius, a mutated human with telekinetic powers known as vectors — invisible limbs that are deadly and capable of manipulating objects and people. Lucy was born into a world of violence, abuse, and experimentation. From a very young age, she was subjected to cruel scientific testing and relentless rejection, which deeply scarred her psyche. This abuse and her inability to fit into society led her to develop a violent and vengeful personality, resulting in a path of destruction and terror.
However, Lucy's story is not simply one of rage. Beneath the surface of the violent Killer lies Kaede, her true self — a kind, innocent girl who only seeks love and acceptance. Kaede represents the emotional, vulnerable side of Lucy, a stark contrast to her violent alter-ego. This duality is central to the character's complexity and could serve as a fascinating exploration of identity and inner conflict within Dead by Daylight. In the context of the Entity's realm, it could be imagined that the Entity separated Lucy from Kaede, trapping only her violent side as a Killer. If desired, Kaede could be introduced as a Survivor.
In my opinion, it would be interesting to see such complexity. I’m not really an anime fan, but I’ve known this one for quite some time, and I think it’s incredible. It would be interesting to have a Killer who was split in half and is now searching for the other half to destroy it. It’s a very complex idea, but I think it would be really unique and interesting.
In terms of gameplay, Lucy's telekinetic vectors could translate into a powerful ability to control the environment, make long-range attacks, and apply pressure on Survivors in unpredictable ways. Her unique abilities could allow for stealthy attacks, manipulating her surroundings to trap Survivors or disrupt their movements. She would bring a fresh and innovative mechanic to the Killer roster, focusing on both psychological and physical domination of the environment.
Lucy's story is filled with tragedy, loss, and inner turmoil. As a Killer, she would embody the emotional pain and torment she suffered throughout her life, making her more than just a force of violence. The narrative of Lucy is also about the loss of humanity and the conflict between her destructive nature and the remnants of her past self. This theme of internal struggle aligns perfectly with the horrific nature of Dead by Daylight, where each Killer is a representation of trauma, suffering, and destruction.
The chapter could feature a setting inspired by laboratories and containment zones — environments that reflect the trauma and experimentation Lucy endured. The aesthetic could be eerie and unsettling, with dark, isolated corridors, broken containment chambers, and disturbing scientific equipment scattered throughout the map. The soundtrack could emphasize the emotional and psychological weight of Lucy’s backstory, blending distorted mechanical noises with faint, sorrowful melodies.
If Kaede were introduced as a Survivor, the game could feature unique, non-gameplay interactions between her and Lucy to reflect their deep psychological connection. These interactions would not provide any mechanical advantages but would add emotional depth to the experience. Some examples include:
- A unique "presence" mechanic — when Lucy and Kaede are within a certain range of each other, subtle audio or visual effects could occur, such as Kaede hearing distant echoes of Lucy’s voice, or Lucy experiencing momentary static or visual distortion, as if sensing a piece of herself nearby.
- Special voice lines or whispers could occasionally play when they are close to each other, with Lucy muttering “Kaede…” or Kaede softly whispering “Lucy…?”, reflecting confusion, recognition, or conflict.
- When Lucy hooks Kaede, there could be a brief visual hesitation or altered animation, suggesting a moment of inner turmoil in Lucy — purely visual, not affecting timing or gameplay.
- While in the same trial, both characters might occasionally trigger special idle animations or subtle ambient changes, like Kaede clutching her head or looking around nervously, while Lucy’s vectors twitch erratically when nearby.
These features would highlight the tragic duality of the character — the split between innocence and destruction — making matches where both appear feel deeply unique, immersive, and emotionally charged, without disturbing the core balance of gameplay.
Lucy would be a unique and powerful Killer addition to Dead by Daylight, offering a deep narrative and fresh gameplay mechanics. Her inclusion would not only provide a fascinating character but also explore themes of violence, trauma, and inner conflict, elements that are central to the world of Dead by Daylight.
I truly believe this DLC could be something very special and unique. There’s so much room for creativity — from special interactions between Lucy and Kaede, to a unique charm like we’ve seen in some other DLCs, or even cosmetics for player profiles. The potential is huge, and I genuinely think this chapter could be something incredible. It’s the kind of content that would need to be handled with care, and I have no doubt that only Behaviour could bring something this meaningful and unique to life.
Please don’t take this the wrong way — it’s just a little idea from a passionate fan 💗
I’m actually a main Survivor, so this suggestion doesn’t come from wanting a new Killer — I just thought it could be something beautiful and unique to explore in the world of DBD.
Dead by Daylight is already full of incredible stories and mysteries, and it’s exactly that depth and richness that makes the game so special and immersive. I truly believe a character like Lucy/Kaede could add something unique to that world.
With kindness and appreciation, :)
Thank you
