Last chance to speak out against the PTB rarity changes
I should clarify that I do not have PTB access and have had to research the changes online. But I felt the need to comment based on what I've seen. Once the changes are implemented, we're going to be stuck with them forever, just like the "shovelware" UI changes from a few years ago that I still don't like to this day. I don't want to be mean about this, but I can't think of a more pointless waste of resources during an alleged health update than changing the format of an existing system in such a way that it not only will confuse current and returning players, but also be a detriment to new players as well. Look at this from a new player's perspective: this game is VERY difficult to understand when you start playing. Given the lack of tutorials, they will look up guides on YouTube. First result will be Otzdarva. Problem is, when he talks about "a green medkit" or a "yellow add-on", this information will be incorrect. In fact, ALL information he or any other content creator has about items or add-ons will be incorrect. How confusing is that going to be a new player? And consider veterans playing with new players and trying to give them advice. "I found a flashlight, is that good?" "What color is it?" "Blue." "Uuhh… I don't know." And I'm sure your response to this would be "Um actually this is a live service game and changes get made all the time" which is disingenuous and frankly ignorant because you know exactly the point I'm trying to make about changes this massive to a fundamental system that has been in place for as many years as it has been (and has been perfectly acceptable until now).
Now to be fair I understand why they are changing the rarities of the really expensive cosmetics to add more detail and organize them further. That makes sense. But no Event Rarity? And changing the colors of the cheaper cosmetics? Bad changes. I noticed that the new Bloodmoon cosmetics are not Event Rarity and it bugged me way more than it should have. And item rarity color changes? Yuck. I personally hate the color blue in general (and it's WAAAAAY overused in this game), but I've seen many comments about how people with color blindness can't see the blue items at all, and that the colorblind filters do not help visibility. That's a major detriment to already disadvantaged players. There's an argument to be made for "ableism", but it's not my place to make it.
The point I'm trying to make is that these changes are unappealing and are going to be more harmful than helpful, even in the long term. If anyone reading this has a problem with them, let the developers know here and now, BEFORE the changes are made, because once they go through and people complain the response will be: "We just don't have the resources to revert the changes."

Here is a link to a post that analyzes the problem better than I did, in case you want more info

TBF, BHVR expects a massive influx of players with the FNAF chapter, and all this new players will most likely have no experience with DBD, but a lot of them will have played WoW, Diablo or any of thousand other games that uses the green-blue-purple-red-gold rarity system, so by squinting I can somehow see how they are wellmeaning with this system.
But what you said also holds true: all the massive ressources online and especially in video format will be outdated and this will be its very own form of confusion. I can't imagine that this new players will be THAT confused by our current rarity system and the lack of blue items, but in the end, we will adapt, as always.
I too find it puzzling that this was deemed a worthy pick for BHVRs ressources, but well, they will have talked this through in quite some meetings, I am sure. shrug

Yeah you have solid points. I really imagine FNAF to be peak playercount for DBD so it does make sense thinkin about it.
I wouldnt particularly mind the blue rarity thing, but no event rarity could bring confusion for the newer players as well.
Can easily see newer players see a cosmetic and wondering how to get it only to find out later it was an event cosmetic, whenever they could currently just hover over it and see.2 -
Yeah I agree. I have never seen a single person who instinctively associates this color paradigm with their given rarities. Most people just learn what the rarities and their associated colors are per each given game they play.
This would be like asking tennis to change its point scoring system because it doesn't match how hockey does it. It takes all of 3 seconds and 2 brain cells to remember that tennis goes 0→15→30→40.
Having the existing rarity system be considered such a "barrier" or "steep learning curve" to a new player to force this change is an interesting choice for sure.

For what its worth (not much i'd have thought because they are going to go ahead and change stuff regardless) I agree with you 100%
We don't need a fortnite rarity system, regardless how many players fnaf brings (I'm still skeptical honestly though I imagine they'll be dbd sales galore) most will quit within a month or two due to play styles, sweat, the grind, or just the fact its nothing like fnaf!
To assume there's a vast potential new fnaf player base out there that have never heard of dbd seems ilogical & while sure said chapter could give them that push to finally give it a go this time next year I expect steam player numbers (since they're easily accessible, to not be over 100k where they are right now we'll see I guess)
So changing so many things to accommodate this new player influx while so many things seem to be getting the ire of the games core base recently (fairly or not) is certainly questionable

The green → blue → purple ordering honestly just feels like a copy from Fortnite lol

I'd say that the rarity colors should be what they are today. It's part of DBD's identity.
Plus, I saw that the new colors messes with some people's colorblindness.Brown → Yellow → Green → Purple → Red, until the end of time ✍️

I vote to keep it as is. Don’t fix what ain’t broke.

Lots of colourblind people myself included cannot tell the difference between the blue and purple rarities so vote to keep things the same as they are. And no the colourblind filters do not help with this and also affect other aspects of the game which would rather not be changed, such as making Ghouls tentacles blue or purple.

I don't think they'll change their minds on this like they haven't changed their minds in the past. You know why? Because they spent time and money on it, and they think it's good so there's that.

Removing the best colour yellow is sad :(

I really couldnt care less if we have the colors we have or different ones. Whats more intriguing is that bhvr thought it would be a needed change and took money and personal to do this, while there are hundreds of issues with this game that need to be fixed sooner than later. Bhvr just has no idea how priorities work.
