Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Map balance, with tier-list.

So, I know there has been some talks about maps lately, and I decided to make a tier-list based on own observations from looking at the forums, to gameplay itself over the past few weeks, and came up with this:

my-image (3).png

Maps that are well-balanced for both sides to play:

  • RPD East Wing. Has enough for both sides to utilize. And matches can easily go both ways.
  • Macmillan Estate - Coal Tower. A good example of a well-balanced map, where matches can easily go both ways.
  • Coldwind Farm - Torment Creek. Arguably the best map in the Coldwind realm.
  • Crotus Prenn - Chapel. Has a decent balance, where matches can often times go both ways.
  • Ormond Resort - Well-balanced, with a solid main structure, and not too many strong outside loops.
  • Autohaven - Blood Lodge. Can often times go either way, depending on the situation.

Maps that are fairly balanced and okay to play for both sides:

  • Nostromo Wreckage - A larger-sized map, but it doesn't feel awful to play on either side.
  • Yamaoka Estate - Sanctum of Wrath. I'd say this is the best of the "dog-bone" maps.
  • Yamaoka Estate - Family Residence. I find it fairly balanced, where matches can go either way.
  • Ormond Lake Mine - I have not had too many opportunities to test this map fully, but it seems fairly well-balanced.
  • Shelter Woods - Decently balanced. A little on the larger end, but it doesn't feel awful to play.
  • Red Forest (both variants). Feels okay to play on both sides.
  • Swamp - Pale Rose. Decently balanced for both sides.
  • Autohaven - Wretched Shop + Wrecker's Yard. Both feels decently balanced.
  • Coldwind - Thompson House. Not much to say here. It is a fine map.
  • LĂ©rys - Feels fine to play on both sides. Can skew either way, depending on window spawns.
  • Macmillan - Groaning Storehouse. Another map that feels fine to play on both sides.
  • Hawkins - It's an okay map. May skew slightly killer-sided at times.

Maps that slightly favor survivors:

  • The Game - Has the most pallets out of any map, and will often skew towards the survivor-side.
  • Greenville Square - Strong main building, with many good pallet loops all around. Slightly survivor-sided.
  • Crotus Prenn - Disturbed Ward. Has a very strong main building, with many god-pallets. By default it is slightly survivor-sided.
  • Toba Landing - It's on the larger end of maps, and the foliage makes hiding quite effective. Slightly survivor-sided.
  • Swamp - Grim Pantry. Has one of the strongest main-buildings in the game.
  • Autohaven - Gas Heaven. Still slightly survivor-sided, but not as bad as it used to be in the past.
  • Coldwind Farm - Cowshed. Pretty much the only Coldwind map that skews slightly towards survivors.
  • Macmillan - Ironworks of Misery. Not as bad as it used to be in the past, but the main building is still a strong structure for survivors.

Maps that slightly favor killers:

  • Forsaken Boneyard - Dead Sands - The newest map on the list. It doesn't offer too much for survivors to utilize, and will often end up with the killer having the advantage.
  • Borgo - Shattered Square. Has a lot of dead-zones, and very few loops. Its larger size makes it not unbearable for survivors, and there are a few hiding spots to use.
  • Midwich - The smallest map. It favors killers by default, thanks to its small size, but survivors has plenty of good pallets and paths to take.
  • RPD West Wing - It is very easy to hold a 3-gen setup on this map, thanks to the close generator spawns in the east wing part.
  • Dead Dawg Saloon - Also a smaller map, which is easier to hold as a killer. Has a few nasty 3-gen spawns.
  • Coldwind Farm - Rotten Fields. Very open map, with very few loops. Mobility based killers will almost always win here.
  • Autohaven - Azarov's Resting Place. A "dog-bone" map, where the killer can easily hold one side of the map.
  • Macmillan - Suffocation Pit. The last "dog-bone" map. Like the Autohaven counterpart, the killer can easily hold one side.

Maps that are very survivor-sided:

  • Garden of Joy. Has the strongest main building in the game, with the best god-pallet spawn, and other strong tiles all over.
  • Eyrie of Crows. Still very strong for survivors, even after the change.
  • Badham Preschool - Has 4 strong structures for survivors to use.

Maps that are very killer-sided:

  • Forgotten Ruins (Borgo). Easy to hold thanks to its small size. The entire upper area is relatively easy to hold with almost any killer, and there are very few loops to utilize.
  • Coldwind - Rancid Abattoir. Has almost no safe structures for survivors to use. The map is essentially a huge dead-zone.
  • Haddonfield. Has very few good structures and loops, and potentially the nastiest 3-gen spawn in and around the Myers house.

Let me know what you guys (and girls) think.

Mostly agree, aside Greenville Square and Underground Complex.

Greenville Square is slightly killer sided with the cluster of 4-5 gens that spawns in the middle.

And Underground Complex is just bad for either side.

Rpd is highly survivor-sided, but only if the survivor know what they are doing. So RPD without a map offering fairly balanced, with one almost unwinnable.

The key in RPD is prerunning, it wastes too much time. There are only a few killer, who can deal with it. Also some killer can make camping a hook really strong when they lock down the middle.

3 genning works with killers like Singularity, but other killer need uncoordinated survivor.

I find the east wing to be fairly balanced, but the west wing can skew slightly killer sided. At least that is how I feel my own games has been going.
Besides, I giggle a lot when survivors send me to RPD when I play killer, because I know how to play around the pre-running.
All you need to do is to not waste time in long chases, and keep pressure on the main room.

Most the list sure yea agree.

Pallet rng plays a role in this maps as well.

    •Torment creek
Facing towards the open main. From the left side, all the way to the right side before a jungle gym (roughly a 3rd of the map), you can get 0 pallets to spawn. Except the 1 pallet hugging main with the lumber.

    •Nostromo
I wouldnt call this anything but killer sided. Theres really nothing safe for survivors in this map
Its miserable to play on both sides though. Theres all this crap in the way for killer.

    •Sanctum of Wrath
Another one where you can get a 3rd of the map and only the side pallet of main (which is even worse on this map its a dead pallet) to spawn. I have had so many of these where its just deadzoned with no pallets.

    •Lery's
    Would give it slightly survivor.
Would be killer sided only for stealth killers.

    •Toba
Same as nostromo, its got the exact same problems only a slightly stronger main. Outside of main its just dead zone after deadzone after unsafe pallet.
Miserable on both sides but would give it to the killer.

I hate Greenville, I consider it highly survivor sided. It can spawn some nasty setups. Just recently played on it where shack, a jungle gym, a double pallet spawn, and another jungle gym were all chainable. Plus with the 500 pallets everywhere if you play against a team that loves to deny hook pickups it's straight misery so you can only slug

West wing is bigger than east wing, has more resources too. Actually feels like more like the opposite but its still a balanced map

Agree with most of it to be fair, but I can't rember the last time I saw a survivor get out of the gate on greenville square regardless which side I was playing so i'd say slightly killer sided.

Dead sands is very killer sided in my opinion too, survivors have absolutely nothing to work with & can be seen from the other side of the map.

    All opinions are valid naturally!

In which world is Crotus balanced? The map literally has one of the strongest main buildings in the entire game, as well as having a very strong setup with the shack connected to a jungle gym.

I agree with most of this. Croatia Prenn Chapel is definitely not “balanced though”. As @Daniel_Silva04 said, one of the strongest main buildings in the game and the jungle gym next to shack. That’s definitely at least slightly survivor-sided, if not very survivor-sided.

Hawkins needs to just go away (again). Miserable map for killers and survivors alike.

I always found the Disturbed ward map to be more survivor-sided than the Chapel, but it beats me.. I guess everyone has had different experiences on the different maps.
Or maybe I got the two mixed up. Anyways, I should have made a category for bad overall maps, and put Hawkins in it.
Now that I think of it, it DOES suck from time to time, depending on door-RNG.

Hey leave my Hawkins be lol it's one of the only maps that makes scratch mirror viable. I get way more positive feedback from my scratch mirror matches on Hawkins compared to tombstone build on any other map. Lots of people enjoy the match and say I almost give heart attack with jump scares, that's fun.
