Proposing a Monster Hunter skin collection almost entirely out of spite.
So, a funny story related to a Anniversary livestream reveal. I have never played The Witcher 3, the only experience I have with it is it's collaboration questline with Monster Hunter World, and it was genuinely one of the worst gaming experiences I have had.
Most of the quest was just boring walking and exhausting dialogue options in a game where there is barely any dialogue and getting to the actually fun parts of hunting Monsters was quick and fairly streamlined, and the actual fight with the Leshen was obnoxious, the gear you are forced to use during the quest was dogshit, most of the fight is spent just running up to Leshen only for it to ######### off and teleport halfway across the arena, and the other half is spent dealing with the Jagras it doesn't stop spawning ever, and hearing Geralt's constant voicelines on top of the music just being a generic sound tribal "aaaaaahhhhaaaaaahhhhaaaa" genuinely made me turn the music off, "How do you like that Silver" is my sleeper activation phrase and I get very, very upset being reminded of it. The quest wasn't as bad as the Final Fantasy collab quests but I was so put off by the quest that I completely lost any and all interest in ever trying Witcher.
So, with the Witcher Collection being introduced and adding both Geralt and Leshen into the game as skins for Vittorio and Artist, I have decided to come up with my own proposal for a Monster Hunter skin collection. Both out of love for Monster Hunter, and my deep unrelenting spite towards Witcher.
I'll go over each Killer in the game, and show off a Monster I feel best fits them for a Skin, taking into consideration a Monster's design and general hunting style and how that fits the Killer.
Without further ado, let's begin with Trapper.
Trapper: Radobaan (Monster Hunter World)
Trapper was actually a rather difficult one to pick out, since the vast majority of Monsters really don't set up Traps, and the few that do like Bazelgeuse and Brachydios are notably more explosive then a humble Bear Trap. So rather then looking for a Trap-based Monster, I decided to look for something that fit Trapper's visual design and perks, Trapper's a Brute, he's unrefined, he breaks stuff with Brutal Strength and just hits you, he also has a very noticeable motif with Bones, with his lore detailing how he took bones from the dead Macmillian workers to make his mask, his Good Son outfit having plenty of references to Bones, and the Macmillian map offering being a Bone. This ultimately led me to Radobaan from Monster Hunter World, a unrefined and blunt Brute Wyvern that covers itself in Bones and Tar and wears it as armour. I felt it fit better then other Monsters that actually use traps, since, as I said, all of them make things explode.
Wraith: Lucent Nargacuga (Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate)
In contrast to Trapper, Wraith's was one I had figured out pretty much immediately, Lucent Nargacuga's fur can reflect moonlight, so, under the cover of the moon, it can vanish and become invisible to the human eye, save for a faint shimmer that can be seen when it's already too late for you, this fits Wraith damn near perfectly.
Hillbilly: Brute Tigrex (Monster Hunter Portable 3rd)
This was another really obvious one, Hillbilly spends most of his time charging at people with a chainsaw and yells every time he does. Brute Tigrex also yells, a lot, and spends a lot of its time charging at people. Yeah it's not really that complicated to figure out, Billy's simple, Tigrex is simple, match made in Heaven.
Nurse: Nerscylla (Monster Hunter 4)
Nurse was another Killer I initially thought would be kinda difficult to pick a Monster out for, a grand total of one monster does anything resembling a teleport, and we'll get to him later, no other monsters really have a medical theme either. So I ultimately went for something that reflects Nurse in a more ironic sense, Nurse was, well, a Nurse, someone who heals ailments, and she wanted to be a mother before her husband's death, so why not pick a Monster who not only is a mother, but also spreads around a lot of ailments? Enter Nerscylla, a Monster who injects various poisons and sleep toxins into you, is frequently seen around their hatchlings, and are known for flaying Monsters alive to wear them as armour. heck, even their colours are almost inverse of each other, I feel it fits.
Myers: Gore Magala (Monster Hunter 4)
Now initially I was rather stumped on what to do for Myers, a emotionless stalker that just kills because that's what he does. Nothing in Monster Hunter really fits that mould, but then I kept looking, and remembered something, Myers is Laurie's nemesis, something she has to face and defeat at some point despite the danger. Know what Monster in this series best fits that role? The only monster that anyone could really call a antagonist in this series, Gore constantly shows up throughout 4's story to fight the player, the game shows how its existence effects the world around it through Frenzied and Apex monsters, and the story concludes with the player killing its evolved form and stopping its threat for good, plus Gore looks spooky, so it fits thematically and design wise.
Hag: Jyuratodus (Monster Hunter World)
This was one that was actually fairly easy, Hag is basically a mud monster that ambushes survivors that step into her traps, Jyuratodus is a giant fish that's covered in mud, lives in regions with mud and water, and ambushes prey that get too close, heck Jyura even slings mud around that slow down survivors, so technically it leaves traps around.
Doctor: Boltreaver Astalos (Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate)
This was another one I had locked in from the get go, Astalos are violent, belligerent Flying Wyverns whose entire bodies are covered in crackling electricity almost constantly, Boltreavers in particular can leave electromagnetic spheres around to trap prey, and it's blue too. The violent electricity fits Doctor pretty much perfectly.
Bubba: Monoblos (Monster Hunter 1)
This is another one I had locked in pretty early, Monoblos are single-minded, charge at anything that threatens them, and make loud noises while doing so, just like Bubba. The real question is why Monoblos instead of Diablos? Simple, not enough people know Monoblos exists, and I am of the belief that it deserves more representation.
Huntress: Lunagaron (Monster Hunter Rise/Sunbreak)
This one was another one I selected based on theming, Huntress is from Russia, Russia's cold, and she's also heavily implied to be a werewolf-like creature based on her skins and perks. Lunagaron is a Monster inspired by werewolves, and is a Ice monster, fits in multiple ways I feel.
Freddy: Great Baggi (Monster Hunter 3)
This was one I mostly went for based on vibes since, shocker, there aren't any dream demons in Monster Hunter. I went with Great Baggi because it makes you fall asleep and bullies Monsters smaller then it, Freddy puts you to sleep in game and generally picks on people weaker then him, I feel it fits.
Pig: Bulldrome (Monster Hunter 2)
This was another obvious one, Pig's skin is the series' main giant pig, I don't really feel the need to elaborate further on that, I feel like not adding Bulldrome for Pig would get me ran over by one in real life.
Clown: Chameleos (Monster Hunter 2)
I picked Chameleos for two reasons, one, it poisons you, and for two, Clown's entire shtick is being unassuming and lulling prey into a false sense of security, Chameleos is smart enough to be mischievous, one would even say clownish, and then you find out about the time one of them made a entire village of people vanish from the face of the earth and remember this thing can and will kill you for the fun of it, fits both gameplay wise and thematic wise.
Spirit: Soulseer Mizutsune (Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate)
Here's another one I picked based on vibes. Mizutsune is a pretty Japanese monster, and Soulseer in particular has, and this is a quote from its description in Generations Ultimate, "The malice of an undying grudge burns within their closed eyes." This fits Spirit practically to a T.
Legion: Seregios (Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate)
I felt it would be fitting to give the Killer who is closely tied to Deep Wounds to the Monster that introduced the Bleeding status effect, Seregios are also pretty violent and will kill pretty much anything they can for the fun of it, Legion's power is called Feral Frenzy, and 2v8 Legion in particular is pretty violent as you constantly run and stab.
Plague: Blackveil Vaal Hazak (Monster Hunter World/Iceborne)
Another one I picked for thematic reasons, I mean Vaal is literally called the Corpse Coat Dragon, its body is dangerous to be anywhere close to, the colours sort of match up, and heck it's even part of a RE collab quest that straight up calls it a Bioweapon, which Plague absolutely is as well.
Ghostface: Xu Wu (Monster Hunter Wilds)
This was one I had on lock as soon as I decided making this list. Xu Wu is called a assassin in game and has the title of "Concealed Weapon Octopus" according to the Wiki, two things that perfectly fit Ghostface, the mostly black colour scheme also fits, and all of the weapons made from Xu Wu parts are named after famous assassins, including Gavrilo Princip (The guy that shot Archduke Ferdinand and triggered WW1) , Marcus Brutus (One of Caesar's killers), and John Wilkes Booth (The guy that shot Lincoln), I think Ghostface would be honoured to be a part of that infamous group.
Demogorgon: Almudron (Monster Hunter Rise)
This one I decided on pretty much entirely for theming, Almudron is all about mud and being in water, Demogorgons and the Upside Down in general have a very aquatic theme, Almudron is also pretty vicious, and can set up small structures made of mud, you can suspend your disbelief and say that Demo is doing kind of the same thing, making portals out of the ground and then travelling through them.
Oni: Scorned Magnamalo (Monster Hunter Rise/Sunbreak)
Another fairly obvious one, I've already talked about how you can literally just port over Scorned's armour and Devil's Deal longsword from Sunbreak into DBD and have a damn near perfect Oni skin, so I won't bore you with the details on that.
Deathslinger: Ahtal-Ka (Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate)
This one is just down purely to vibes once again, Deathslinger is very smart and known for building crazy stuff, Athal-Ka are also really smart and will build really crazy stuff for their nests, Deathslinger would 100% build a mechsuit if he knew what mechsuits were, as for why this isn't a Singularity skin? Oh trust me, we'll get to that.
Pyramid Head: Fatalis (Monster Hunter 1)
I chose Fatalis for Pyramid Head for a fairly complicated reason. Pyramid Head is more of a symbol then a monster or a killer, he's a symbol of James' guilt and desire for self punishment, and, by extension, is a symbol of fear, something that James has to overcome and accept in order to move on and rebuild his life. Fatalis is a lot more hateful then Pyramid Head is, but it is still, thematically, a symbol of nature's rage, of balance, something that exists to remind Humanity that when they push the ecosystem, the ecosystem will push back, Fatalis destroyed Schrade in a single night, and remains within the ruins of Castle Schrade as a ever-present reminder of what happens when you try and put a leash on Nature, and it takes Hunters who have sworn to maintain the ecosystem's balance to put it down and let humanity move on from its past sins, I think it fits symbolically.
Blight: Yian Garuga (Monster Hunter Freedom Unite)
Moving on from the thematically deep Pyramid Head choice, I have Yian Garuga for Blight for the simple reason that it's a violent and belligerent screaming pest that will fight and kill anything it sees with a almost feral rage despite its surprising intelligence, something that perfectly fits Blight.
Twins: Rakna-Kadaki (Monster Hunter Rise)
This one I decided upon once again just for vibes, Rakna-Kadaki makes use of its young during the fight, Twins are the premier 2 person Killer, I just felt it made sense, plus the cloak Rakna wears would make for a pretty dress, Twins deserves.
Trickster: Odogaron (Monster Hunter World)
Quick, nimble, and known for Lacerating their prey with their massive claws, Odogaron feels perfectly suited for a Killer who's power builds up a Laceration gauge, plus Odogaron have a pretty melodious whistling noise and really nice sounding roar that can be used when Trickster activates Main Event.
Nemesis: Nergigante (Monster Hunter World)
I decided on Nergigante for Nemesis for a few reasons, for one, Nerg's one of the only monsters in the series that just straight up punches you, no elemental gimmicks, no breath attacks, just good old fashioned brute force, and, much like Nemesis, they're smart too, as shown as the end of Iceborne where one played dead and waited for the Hunter to weaken Shara Ishvalda before delivering the final blow itself. Nerg acts a lot like a Nemesis for the player in World, so I felt it fit.
Pinhead: Akura Jebia (Monster Hunter Frontier)
This was mostly a vibes pick, Jebia here is a large scorpion who's body is covered in a crystalline fluid that can rapidly harden, while it doesn't really have anything to do with Pinhead or the Cenobites in general, it does oddly remind me of the Engineers, which is a nice callback to Hellraiser.
Artist: Malfestio (Monster Hunter Generations)
Malfestio is one of the only Bird Wyverns in the series that actually looks like a bird. That's pretty much the only reason, birb gets put on the character that basically is a birb.
Sadako: Oroshi Kirin (Monster Hunter 4)
Once again, this one was a pick based on vibes because, shocker, MH doesn't have ghosts that mess with technology. So I instead went with a Monster that leans into another part of Sadako's character, the fact that she's treated like a myth or legend in the movie, the lack of belief in her curse is what causes the movie's events, and it makes sense, at least to me, to have her skin be a Monster that is so rare that they are considered mythical.
Dredge: Gogmazios (Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate)
Another choice I made based on visual design, Gogmazios is a monstrous black dragon that regularly attacks human settlements in order to eat their gunpowder stores, and is constantly covered in tar and smog. I think that would fit pretty well for a creature that also constantly has a dark aura around it.
Wesker: Deviljo (Monster Hunter 3)
This was a choice made mostly for thematic purposes, Wesker and Deviljo are complete opposites personality wise, but they more-or-less have the same goal, Wesker wants to take over the world, Deviljo is called the World Eater in-game and quite literally devours everything it can much Ouroboros does, and, much like Wesker, they have surprising agility and can leap pretty impressive distances.
Knight: Ashen Lao-Shan Lung (Monster Hunter G)
"A giant dragon few have seen and lived to tell the tale. When on the rampage it wreaks havoc on all in its path" is part of ALSL's description, and I feel it fits Knight pretty perfectly, it's simple, brutish, and, well, wrecks everything it comes across, just like Knight does.
Skull Merchant: Great Izuchi (Monster Hunter Rise)
This one was a choice made based mainly on visual design, a lot of SM's outfits are rather vibrant and flashy, and Great Izuchi's fur could be repurposed into a pretty flash outfit, plus its tail can be turned into a weapon for her.
Singularity: Harudomerugu (Monster Hunter Frontier)
This one was one I decided upon as soon as I read Harudo's description on the Wiki, "Often enrobed in a strange liquid metal, which it is seemingly able to control at a whim; this dragon is a curious beast. First hand accounts claim it is highly intelligent, being able to learn and counter a hunter's combat techniques with ease." This fits Singularity perfectly, seeing as it is also highly intelligent, and since it's basically a Terminator anyway, the liquid metal that Harudo uses technically makes it a T-1000, which I think is pretty neat.
Xenomorph: Gigginox (Monster Hunter 3)
This one was also a really easy choice, Gigginox is basically a in-universe Xenomorph already, with its ability to detect prey based on body heat, stretchable body, and propensity for laying a lot of eggs, it's not a perfect fit since Giggi doesn't have a sharp tail, but it fits close enough.
Chucky: Talioth (Monster Hunter Wilds)
I decided on this one mostly because I felt Talioth's description best fit Chucky, they're described as never letting go once they latch onto their target, which fits Chucky's sheer stubbornness, and its the only small monster who's description mentions that it regularly brings down prey much bigger then itself, which Chucky also does fairly regularly.
Unknown: Unknown (Monster Hunter Frontier)
This was one I picked entirely because I thought the naming convention was too perfect, however that wasn't the only reason, according to Unknown's wiki description, "The abilities of this Wyvern seems to vary between witnesses and so little is known of its biology, that it has yet to be officially named." This description sort of fits Unknown quite well, since it's a creature who has multiple possible forms based on what the person looking for it thinks it is.
Vecna: Alatreon (Monster Hunter 3)
Another one I had locked in pretty much as soon as I started working on this, Vecna's a god that uses multiple different spells in game, and Alatreon is one of the most powerful Monsters in the series and can use all 5 Elements at once, I felt it fit.
Dracula: Malzeno (Monster Hunter Rise/Sunbreak)
Another really obvious one, Dracula's a vampire, Malzeno's a vampire, I feel further elaboration isn't really required.
Houndmaster: Lagiacrus (Monster Hunter 3)
This was one I flip-flopped on for a while, a lot of various vicious and aquatic Monsters could have fit Houndmaster fairly well, but I ultimately decided on the original Leviathan for its known behaviours, Lagi's vicious, spends a lot of time both on sea and on land, which Houndmaster also does, and it's description mentions its "Atop the aquatic foodchain" which Houndmaster basically is in lore.
Kaneki: Guardian Arkveld (Monster Hunter Wilds)
This was another one I had pretty much figured out immediately when I started working on this list, Kaneki's story is full of misery, dude's constantly starving and pretty clearly loses it whenever he gets even a small bit to eat. Guardian Arkveld quite literally loses it as soon as it gets a taste of actual food, and has to be killed to prevent it from destroying the Ecosystem, you can honestly just replace the Kagune with Arkveld's chainblades and it would be a nearly perfect fit.
And finally, Springtrap: Athal-Ka's Mech (Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate)
This one I felt was also really obvious, Springtrap is basically a mech suit, might as well give him a skin for the only Monster that straight up is a giant mech suit.
And with that, that's my choices, feel free to agree to disagree, If you have your own suggestions I'd love to hear them
G'night

Seeing Plague with Vaal Hazak’s armor might actually make me play Plague, I love my oopy goopy farty elder dragon and would do ANYTHING to be able to wear its armor again
Also Leshen is a fun experience wdym you don’t like hunting a monster teleporting every 5 seconds, summoning ads, then making you bleed, and making you use what might actually be the worse weapons to ever bless you with in your entire life to kill probably the smallest non-arena monster1
