Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

My concern with additional deep rift variants

We know BHVR doesn’t plan on bringing deep rifts back to the store or weekly bundles which I was okay with but now that we have more variants I feel like this adds more FOMO. Newer players might want a certain deep rift outfit but they will only be able to buy the base outfit. I really think BHVR should consider rolling back on the deep rift exclusivity considering they don’t like FOMO.

Time limited cosmetics that arent just outright purchaseable (such as the winter cosmetics and bloodmoon) are fine imo since you actually have to earn them. Sure you need to purchase the Rift, but youre spending 10$ to get several other cosmetics and you still have to earn the recolors.

I really hope they dont advertise cosmetics as exclusive and then double back later on, its what they did with Howling Grounds and Summer BBQ event cosmetics and that ######### sucked.

Think they also advertised the DBD day shirts as exclusive in last year’s haunted by daylight stream.

Newer players are newer players., period. Is there any other online game out there that has been on for over 10 years that a new player can get literally anything the game was providing since day 1? Dead By Daylight should be forced to do that? If this new player is not happy then they should think twice before playing it. If this is so importante they should make a research before buying the game.

It would be pretty fine, IF the Rift wasn't made grindier and even more FOMO.

BHVR/DbD has often backed out of statements they previously made (no Ranged Killer, no Clown as Killer, no real life people as characters, charms staying rift exclusive was also a thing iirc…)

with this many recolors of ‚complex‘ cosmetics with plenty of Details it’s just a matter of time when they are adding them to the shop. Possibly for Auric cells only so going back on that ‚only licensed cosmetics are auric cell only‘?

And.. it’s okay if they decide that they want to change something about their game. It’s a live service game and not perfect in its current state and more monetization is bound to happen anyway. At least in this case it will stay bound to optional cosmetics.

I should add that it shouldn’t be only about newer players, but also for players that didn’t have time to grind the rift because life happens.

FOMO is and/or was always present in this game in some forms and sometimes BHVR decided to change their stance on it (Event exclusive cosmetics for example). its never been clearly one way or the other.
I think people like to argue that BHVR stated they are against FOMO when they said they don’t want to add P100 rewards or when they made the Event cosmetics free for everyone but they kinda leave out the actual reasons for these decisions.

Sadly using FOMO with directly purchasable cosmetics is kinda expected in some form or degree in modern live service Games and I don’t remember BHVR ever directly stating that they are against it

    But why?

Would it actually be detrimental to anyone if DbD didnt follow what all the other online games do? Should DbD be forced to do it like all the other online games?

I don‘t think the new rift is very grindy. I‘m currently at level 56 in the rift and I will probably be level 100 in two weeks. It‘s nice getting more rewards.

With that being said, I wouldn‘t mind if they sell the deep rift variants.

Because new players and people that couldnt get it for whatever reason during the time the cosmetics where available would be happy to have other chances/purchase pption and players use currency for it which benefits the game development

so what are the arguments against it besides ‚the other ones don’t do it‘ - which doesnt seem reasonable to me at all

I guess they should look for a different game if that is so important

Why should they look for a different Game? It’s not even gameplay related..

We are talking about optional cosmetical items that can easily be added to the existing in-Game shop and I haven’t seen one actual reasonable reason to not add them there?

edit: LMAO 3 downvotes already but no one can bring a reasonable argument outside of ‚other Games do it top‘ and ‚I like it when people who want something don’t get it‘?? 😂

FOMO is such a weird thing to me, not because I don't understand it, but because its technically been around since forever. Games have done it before and businesses have done it WAY before anything digital existed.

I have zero sympathy towards FOMO because its oddly centered around people having poor spending habits, and companies taking advantage of that. On the other side I do understand people wanting event or rift cosmetics to be more available for those who missed the event or simply didn't have time. However, sometimes that diminishes the value of those events and their rewards. Why bother when I can just get it later for so much less hassle?

Sometimes you miss out on things, but it's okay. Let people have their exclusives for being there. It's enough that they bring everything else back, not everything should return. I missed out on many Deep Rift items, and that's fine. I wasn't there, missed the Rift, or was too busy, but I don't think it should return. Having some special or exclusive items is nice.

If cosmetic, which is something that doesnt change the gameplay at all, is so important to these people, then yes, they should look for a different game. Gameplay is not the most important aspect to these people.

so.. you admit there isnt any actual argument for your case then?

What if these people are happy with DbD gameplay wise and it would just make them a bit more happy if this cosmetic was available? They wont drop the Game just because cosmetics arent available but they would use more in-Game currency if it was..?

Btw I doubt anyone would look for another game just because some random forum user tells them to

    There is argument

    FOMO

Don't wanna lose cosmetics? Play the game

  • Mooks
    Mooks Member Posts: 15,082

but we are talking about players that are not able to play at the given time, so fomo wasnt applyable for them for whatever reason

And it’s Not even an argument because thats still doesnt answer why the cosmetic cant be purchasable later (for a higher price than just playing during Event/rift)

No. Some thinks should stay exclusive

The whole point of Deep Rift is that it's a reward for players who go beyond the original 70 Rift Tiers. It is an accomplishment.

To make them available to everyone is to demean this accomplishment, which the original Rift outfits already do. However, the original Rift outfits can, & do, get further recolours available for all players. Deep Rift is the slimmest bit of exclusivity and it’s pretty much just Fortnite’s super styles. Cool to have, but not detrimental to miss out on.

At the end of the day it is FOMO & encouraging grinding, however not everything should be served to players on a silver platter. Yes, grind should be easier, and BHVR’s new Quest System & upcoming BP spend button is intended to make it easier, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist, nor should players not be rewarded for going above & beyond. If this were the case of the original Rift outfits or Shop outfits, I’d see your point.
