Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Weapons for survivors

hey new here just wanted to share a opinion but would it be cooler to have maybe weapons like in the chest? I feel survivors have limited objects while killers have all these advantages. It’s still a fun game just an opinion

I couldn’t even tell you fr this is literally my first time even playing the game and there’s a handful of times where I’ll get put in a match where other survivors will block me in and have the killer get to me or times where the killer is just chasing after me. So I guess it goes both ways

    This game shouldn't have weapons.

Hopefully DBD doesn't become like F13 or Killer Klowns, where survivors bully the killer.

    • Weapons in a game are just items that can be used to trigger something, maybe an effect or a debuff
    • A pallet is an environmental object/item that can be used to trigger something, e.g. stun the killer (if timed correctly)
    • A flashlight is an item that can be used to trigger something, e.g. blind the killer

People are overreacting when they hear the word "weapon". You can see it by their reactions and the use of DBD-Buzzwords:

    • "bullying"
    • "break the game's core identity"
    • "shift the balance"

Yet they forget the simple logic above.

So to accommodate for the lack of understanding and common sense in most of the DBD community, you should make a step towards them. Because they are your audience. Help them see your vision in a way so even they will be able to understand it.

How about: let's think about adding another defensive item to the game

Imagine the in-game flashlight would look like a pistol, and it would be called a light-weapon and instead of a bright whitish effect it would be a red laser like effect (you know, like in movies). It would literally be the same thing, but the discussion would look like the yapping above.

I mean it depends on what a weapon would do. Of course, if we have some kind of weapon that could eventually kill a killer, adding a new way for survivors to win, I think that would be broken. A weapon to stun the killer for a few seconds? That could maybe work with enough prerequisites, but that's a very dangerous thing to try if you ask me. Especially at the moment where killers play against the clock quite a bit.

A few new items would be welcome though.

I personally would love a melee item that lets me use head on, and uses of it decreases item charge, or a throwable item that inflicts a very short stun/hinder that's lost upon use. Or maybe a item which gives you more intense wiggle, or lets you displace where a killer is location wise.

I'm all for this sort of interaction when it comes to items.

You should check out Identity V's selection of useable items.

Theres a flaregun that stuns the killer, a whip to snag a survivor of the shoulder, i think there were some elbow pads that make you dash like a deadhard with 5x the range.

But too much items on the offensive side might be obnoxious or unbalanced in dbd, idv has some different mechanics and balance in place. (Imagine the outrage if dbd killers had instant downs when a hit interrupts an action)

No thank you, I like dbd because it doesn't have a mechanic to fight back and instead focuses on using the map to your advantage.

Of course everyones opinion is different, but I believe dbd would have a much different vibe to it then, that I and probably a lot more people wouldn't like. In the end I could also play TCM or other similar games with weapons then if I searched for something like that.

dbd is a game based of slasher movies, you are not supposed to fight against the killer as if you werein a call of duty game, but sure, probably some day a survivor will bring a gun to the game, but it will have limited ammo and just give a stun or slow to the killer, because the entity controls it

Then try to get used to dbd first. It's a really complex game with a lot to learn before you actually get a consistent playstyle and winrate - the start is really horrible, but at least there's mmr now, so you probably won't get matched against people with thousand of hours like you could before (of course only if it works like it should xD).

Maybe play killer first, then you know what killers can and can't do, that also helps you learning survivor in return.

The items that have been in the game forever have definitely become stale and it would be great to see some new items added. Weapons seem a bit overkill (pun intended), but some more useful items for survivors that maybe take a side objective to obtain could add some interesting new dynamics to the gameplay that has been so stale for years. Unfortunately I don’t think BHVR is going to spend much if any resource on this unless the player count starts to drop due to player boredom/burnout.

it depends what kind of weapons and what effects they would have

I think there is potential to add survvior items that work like ‚weapons‘ without breaking the core Identity of DbD. Something Like a baseball bat, slingshot or even a pistol/gun can work implemented right and not overpowered. Obviously you shouldnt be able to kill the killer or stun them in place for a long time.
But short stuns and other ways for the survivors are already in the Game (pallets, flashlights, blend grenade, blast mine, Ripleys pallet freeze perk, Head On, DS) and it’s a core Feature for Most slasher movies/chase scenes for the victims to at least try to fight back..

And yet, there's a perk that (according to it's description) allows you to "Stab at your aggressor in an attempt to escape".

definitely not guns that would defeat the whole purpose of course maybe just little things that could stun the killer for 3-5 seconds when it’s carrying off one of our partners I should’ve been more specific

I would support Dwight having a broadsword made out of cardboard.
