Will posting gameplay where I don't win negatively impact my videos?

I just have this nagging feeling that people only want to watch videos where the POV is of someone winning. True or false?

People want to see videos where you fulfill your goal.

If your goal is solely winning and that's what your content is and that's what people expect, then yes.

If the goal of the video is to show your journey toward a goal (idk, winning with a specific build or on a specific map or something) then you just need to win the last match in the video; all the "losses" before might be losses gameplay wise but are "steps in the progress" goal-wise but as long as the footage is interesting (i.e. selected having that overarching goal in mind) people will stick around. Arguably, the later the overarching goal is achieved in the video the more interesting it is (that's even true for videos in which winning the match is the sole goal; the later the win is secured the better; the back and forth of hooks and unhooks are the steps in the progress there).

If the goal is to just be entertaining than it doesn't matter if you're winning (and you wouldn't even necessarily include the match results). You'd select footage that you deem entertaining. — Now, again, if your audience is expecting winning instead of entertainment that might drive some away (but in turn might attract those that are looking for entertainment).

We can only speak for ourselves but we'd say false. We'd love watching exciting matches, not a stomping on either end.

That said, who knows what people want, do what you want so you enjoy it.

depends on what's the main goal of your clips. Showing off some sick flicks and techs? People don't care if you win, they are there for those.

You are doing a winstreak? Ofc people will be all there for you winning.

Personally I just like to watch and make content that's about having fun in DBD, showing the game for what it is - a tag game that is supposed to be a mini horror film and seeing how well you can do in it. I would rather watch tense games ending in a draw, near win, or near loss than a stomp every single time.

    For me personally, false.

I prefer to watch regular gameplay with some commentary over it — win, lose, or draw. Long videos are a big plus for me too.

For me I say false. Watching games that I most likely know the outcome or is a one side stomp is predictable and not exciting to watch. Best games I've enjoyed watching is when it's close for both sides that you don't know whose going to come out on top and win the match.

Losing in this game is going to happen all of the time, if people stopped watching content because the streamer/youtuber lost there would be nobody watching anyone.

we cant predict what your potential audience would prefer.

But in general, it’s more important how you play and how entertaining you are than the actual win/lose outcome.

Probably not but if you want to make it more interesting to help you overcome the worry - you could always do a bit of analysis on your mistakes and make that part of the video.

I always notice mistakes I make in my matches when I'm able to watch them back.

Nobody Likes to see losing content if you are a negative Nancy.

Just bring good vibes, maybe have a goal to work towards. There can be things to learn, or show from a lost match.

Imo, this depends on the rest of the content.

If you're entertaining or generally positive, then it really won't matter as much.

I can say personally that I don't really enjoy content where they generally just complain about everything, regardless if they're winning or losing.

i mean you'd be more honest than people only posting their escapes but what message are you trying to portray by showing your losses? is it a lack of balance, trying to prove a point or just your gameplay in general?

I think being in the top 2% of players (which some pro streamers are) is an easy way to generate interest in your content, because you're showing people something that almost nobody can do. But, if you're not in that category, I don't think winning and losing matters as much — it's more about personality at that point.

Like others said, it depends on what your goal is. But generally I'd say false. Some of my favorite DBD videos out there are Tofu videos where he used to try insanely niche killer builds or test how good certain niche killer add-ons could be. In like half of those videos he got cooked by survivors either because the build was too silly or because the add-ons were actually really bad lol. But those videos were my absolute favorite! I think I lean much more towards creativity and content creators trying to come up with something new (even if they lose), rather than the trillionth video of an S tier killer with four slowdown perks getting an easy win.
