Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

The "New killers are just a mix of old ones" statement is kinda annoying me currently

Yes, most killers have certain similarities, but this is not a bad thing nor mean that they're a cheap copy of other one, we ALWAYS, since the start of the game, had killers that derived from other ones

Hag → trapper

Bubba → Billy

Og Freddy -> wraith

Clown → huntress

Spirit -> nurse

Ghost face → myers

Oni -> hillbilly

And the list goes on, but are they bad, uninspired etc? No! They're all really good/cool characters

Look at Xenomorph, a lot of people say that she's Just Demogorgon and Nemesis in one killer because she can travel the map and have a short range projectile... but they ignore the fact that Her tail Works in a completely different way, anyone who actually plays nemesis or xeno know how different they feel and play, and her "tunnels" are also very different to the portals, and the same thing applies to Dracula, houndmaster and our brand new killer

"He's just huntress and dredge together" yes, they share similar concepts, but there's absolutely no dimension where Dredge's teleport works like the new door system thing, the way you play them is completely different, same for the hatchet/axe

---------------------

That's all I wanted to say :)

Yes there are many very overly emotional reactions to something as simple as a Killer kit. It really isn't that big of a deal. I like seeing the passion but at the end of the day, it is what it is and we all have to come to terms with it. Some just take a lot longer to do that, which is also fine.

Hello General! I compared these 2 because they both have the "invisibility power", but the way they play is/were very different, just like the other ones (for example, hag and trapper put traps on the ground, but the way they work is very different, just like freddy/wraith, etc)

    Good to see you 👋

Good to see you too, my friend! I hope you're doing well.

I see your point, the invisibility is something they both have, but honestly they were so fundamentally different that the similarity is barely there. Really thinking about it, I don't think it is easy to compare Old Freddy to anyone, he was that unique.

And I sure loved him <3

there are only so many things the devs can do. They can’t make An entirely new power every chapter. Chapters would be released way further apart due to them trying to make a new thing every time.

Another thing is if it is close to a power already in the game that’s good. Maybe someone likes huntress but there was just something you just couldn’t enjoy about it. Now with Springtrap who has an axe he throws there is a chance that person can enjoy that play style.

An example was that I loved Xenos tunnels but I didn’t enjoy the tail attack. So I found dredge and now he is in my main rotation.

It’s not a bad thing, it’s just an opportunity to have a different play style with the same power.

My usual response is; What do you expect on this game engine?

Devs already said they're sorta held back in some regards due to it. Verticalilty isn't much of an option and anything sort of new can kinda break the looping aspect of the game.

That's why I focus on what a killer is capable of that it's clones aren't. Such as Insidious Unknown, who uses Insidious better than the rest of the cast. Or Undetectable Dracula using wolf form to get jumpscares.

comparing Hag and Trapper is like comparing Unknown and Huntress tbh.

Bubba is vastly different from Billy. Only similar thing is...chainsaw that doesn't even work the same way.

Og Freddy and Wraith are also conceptually very different.

Clown and Huntress are completely different killers in every aspect.

Spirit with phasing and having to listen to sounds vs. Nurse teleporting, quite a bad comparison.

Ghostface and Myers are also completely different killers in terms of gameplay loop.

Oni has much better traversal than Billy and has to earn his power compared to Billy.

I find it funny to hear exact opposite complaints about the same game. You've got some people saying the killers are too similar to one another and they want big game-changing gimmicks. Then you've got people saying the killers are too different and memorizing the counterplay to all of them is impossible.

It would probably help if they didn't keep gutting all the counterplays. Most people I know don't even play survivor anymore.

this is objectively false. Hag is nothing like Trapper and Freddy is nothing like Wraith. It was only beginning with Ghostface that every killer started being a remix/carbon copy of previous killer powers. Plague was the last killer whose powers and mechanics was truly original.

the og freddy to wraith comparison is a stretch the only really thing they shared was invisibility but back then freddy was completely invisible until he pulled you into dream

bubba came out before ghostface and bubba had the exact same add-ons as billy when he first came out even though their chainsaws worked differently

Exactly lol and I think the people that complain must not play much survivor because the counterplay is so different to each killer despite overlaps and similarities in power.

Sadly anything that isn't a dodgable ranged projectile or dodgable dash power is typically shunned by the community… and if map mobility isn't in the mix, it dies off hard

The stereotype isn't helped when you look at the last 10 killers released after Wesker: -

    • Knight - Zoning/Cut Off killer, hated by the community.
    • Skull Merchant - Zoning/Trap/Info/Stealth killer, hated by the community.
    • Singularity - Map Mobile/Steroid killer, generally liked, but mixed feelings by community due to success of unique item based counterplay.
    • Xenomorph - Map Mobile/Pseudo Ranged killer, generally liked, but mixed feelings by community due to success of unique item based counterplay.
    • Chucky - Map Mobile/Dash/Stealth killer, hated by the Survivor community due to ease of dash hits until nerfed. Now generally perceived as fine, but hated by killers.
    • Unknown - Map Mobile/Ranged Killer, loved by the community.
    • Vecna - Map Mobile/Zoning/Ranged/Info Killer, mixed feelings by community due to difficulty playing around multiple spells/cooldowns.
    • Dracula - Map Mobile/Ranged/Dash Killer, hated due to various stages where one power felt oppressive, now perceived as mostly fine.
    • Houndmaster - Map Mobile/Ranged (Psuedo Dash)/Info killer, generally perceived as fine.
    • Ghoul - Map Mobile/Dash/Cut Off killer, hated due to ease of injuries and cut off, required multiple nerfs to bring back in line, and still not well received.
    • Spring Trap - Map Mobile/Ranged/Stealth Killer.

Considering how often Map Mobile, Ranged and/or Dash pop up in this list, it does feel a little like there is a template of "must haves" for each killer nowadays. Even Freddy's rework fits into this template.

Given that Cut Off/Zoning killers aren't liked, Stealth killers don't tend to be viable after getting multiple nerfs, and Info tends to be meh as well... the newer additions do have a "cut from the same cloth" kind of feeling.

Well I mean, killers are pretty much just reskinning and a variation of others and mostly have been for some time. When you look at how their attacks and hitboxes actually operate it becomes clear that many are just adjustments and reskins of previous versions and this is no surprise.

The problem is, many of these convoluted designs also end up being incredibly unfun to verse as a survivor and it is no surprise to me that pretty much every killer I absolutely despise versing is from the last few years. There are only so many designs they can come up with before they have to reuse the same mechanics in disguise

You can basically boil down every Killer Power into a few components that are combined in various ways:

    • Killer put thing down, thing mess with Survivors
    • Killer go fast
    • Killer teleport
    • Killer go invisible/undetectable
    • Killer throw thing
    • Killer buff self
    • Killer debuff Survivor
    • Killer get info
