Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

What Are Your Favourite Small Details?

This can be anything really. A hidden secret or an easter egg, a lobby animation or a detail on a map or a cosmetic. Just thought I'd make a thread for appreciating the little things in DBD that don't make any difference to the game play, but you still enjoy the fact that they're there anyway. I'll go first:

campfire.jpg

I like how the Survivors (and the Killer you currently have selected) will wear the cosmetics you have equipped on them. I also noticed for the first time today that Quentin will nod off while sitting by the camp fire and has to wake himself up! A neat little touch that I think some players might not have spotted.

rainandlute.jpg

This absolutely stunning skybox of a gas giant planet on the Nostromo wreckage.

nostromoview.jpg

I always take time to appreciate the view when I'm on the hook.

castleeyrie.jpg

I love the way Dracula's castle will usually appear in the background whenever you face him.

cavedude.jpg

And this guy just chilling out underneath Toba Landing (so long as the basement doesn't spawn here). What's their story?

The little easter eggs in the Midwich map! Mainly the locker jumpscare in the locker room, and the fact that you must complete the music room and the laboratory's gens so that the clock tower's chest becomes available in the endgame.

    My favorite small details:

    • Ghostface's little chuckle after he does the jumpscare motion in the lobby, the way his shoulders kinda shake with laughter. Bro's having the time of his life in the Fog.
    • The way Dredge schlurps out of its own shadows when it spawns into the lobby or the map.
    • Both Wesker and Nemesis have the same little tentacle animation and pose when spawning in.
    • The way Survivors' faces subtly change in intensity with every tier of Madness against Doctor.
    • The little spiders on Toba Landing, they're super cute. :3
    • The Unknown changing to a male or female voice depending on what head you have equipped, and the fact that under UVX the voice sounds like a normal human voice - not garbled.
    • Any of the still props in a map that turn to look at you - the Yamaoka statues, the knights in Vecna's map, the Animatronics in the FNAF map.
    • Dracula's castle appearing on maps you face him on, as long as the map is not licensed.
    • The weird stringy bits on the planet that look like a web in the Nostromo Skybox.
    • The ######### BEAUTIFUL skies on Dead Dawg, Toba Landing, and Nostromo Wreckage.
    • The way the hooks gently sway a bit on their axis.
    • The fact you can power up the Greenville Main gen and it shows a film clip.
    • Any map with a jumpscare, any of them. Super cool detail and super fun.

Ah, one of my favorite small details is that you can see Freddy's claw marks on the walls if you're playing in one of the Badham maps. Always thought it was a nice detail for my favorite chapter.

The Music Room and Chemistry Lab gens on Midwich being completed cause the associated medallions from Silent Hill 1 to be placed in the indentations on the clock tower! I know everyone knows that the clock tower opens, but I like that they added the detail of the medallions appearing.

Might just be recency bias, but I love all the little references with Springtrap. Sometimes crossing over the lobby screen the way he would in FNAF 3, the way he's animated as both dead in suit and live as the robot (makes me really wanna see the Lillard Skin), the way half his lines are taken from the nightmare animatronics (heavily lending credence to the idea they repeat what he said to his victims), and my personal favorite "The darkest pits of hell are open for business" as a reminder that after all the pain and violence he caused, there wasn't any punishment waiting for him at the bottom, but instead a promotion.

What Shroompy said. Here it is on Dead Dawg Salloon and Gas Heaven:

Thanks guys, I've learned about some easter eggs I didn't know existed. I love the little spidery guys on Toba as well (and the centipede thingies and those flying creatures). The planet is teaming with life.

I forgot another of my favourites - I love how throwing the pallet in Greenville's cinema arcade sets off the Pinball machines!

Plus, you can find Jonesy hiding in one of the lockers on Nostromo (I think most people probably know about this one, but I still like it a lot).

    1. Drac's castle on Crotus Penn Asylum looks incredible
    2. The texturing that gets applied to a killer hit with 'Chem Trap'. It's really dynamic and looks amazing on a lot of killers
    3. When Sadako hooks a survivor, she manipulates the hook itself and impales them with it instead of throwing them onto it
    4. Sadako's TVs plays static when no survivor is nearby and plays the tape ambience when a survivor is close to it

I didn't know about Jonesy in the locker or that if Doc sacrifices someone the Survivors still alive hear their friend whimpering on the hook where they died!

I always thought it was neat that in several Moris you can find Survivor corpses remaining in the environment, it feels really thematic to be running around and then you see Jeff got Mori'd, then five seconds later you stumble on his corpse.

I played PTB on release day and that was it, only did a couple games as well as Springtrap if I recall correctly as well.

Would of also been running around with the full bloody cosmetics

the UVX one is so Awsome in a lore standpoint. It gives you more insight as to how the Unknown hunts.

the way it seems that the Unknown hunts is by stalking the victims til it hears Phrases that are repeated a lot (Have you seen my dog? Being a common phrase you could hear from a stranger or a friend) and then uses the UVX to screw with their senses so it can lure the person out of wherever they are ATM.

    Its so cool

I love the little things that impact the lore very slightly. Not a revelation that changes how you see them, or something that shines a different light on their actions but something small that adds personality or gives minor insights to their life.

one is this post I just made

but others I love are how The survivors who are sacrificed by doctor still have their Whimpers playing on that hook. Image how Lery’s sounded, you would never have any quiet due to the whimpers of all the people that died around you or in the room you where trapped in. It would fit the MKULTRA vibe in psychological torture part.

ghostface laughing is so cool cause he loves it there. The trials are like a candy shop for him. It gives us a better look into how disturbed he is.

the nurse closing the eyes of the survivor after a Mori gives us that reminder she was a real nurse and still has feelings.

there are so many of these little lore things hidden in animations, sound designs, map details and things like that and I could write a novel of these things.

It’s just fun seeing these little things for yourself and learning just a little more about your favorite charecter.

Tricksters Combo laughs is probably one of my favorites, very satisfying to hear after landing several knives in a row.

Dredge in chase almost looks "excited" when chasing somebody as youll see its flailing around a little more.

Unknown having labored breathing in the middle of a chase.

A universal one, but every killer (except for Twins lol) released after Blight has a "walking" animation. If you only partially hold down your joystick to move forward there is a unique animation that a good chunk of killers will do.

Another universal one is most of the newer killers have smoother movement, where if they move their head slightly thats all that moves Instead of their entire body.

Springtrap actually having a human corpse inside of him and not what ever the ######### you see in FNAF 3

***THE NEXT FEW ARE REMOVED ONES***

Tricksters knives used to make a "voom" sound when flying by a Survivor. No idea when this was removed and only found out recently.

Huntress would stop humming when in the middle of a chase and instead breathe really heavily. This would be more beneficial nowadays due to there being more Undetectable perks, and Beast of Prey actually gives Undetectable now as well instead of just hiding the red stain. The only downside to this is you cant hear the full lullaby where she starts laughing towards the end of it, but I think the small detail is worth it.

Some killers (similar to the default one) had unique chase music to their own POV. Myers, Doctor, Demogorgon and Oni. Oni truly is a shame since it was a completely different theme from the Survivor POV. There was a bug back when the Twins released that made it so chase music wouldnt fade away after a chase ended and instead it would just end abruptly. When they fixed that bug they removed the unique chase music from these 4.

Ghost Face when in stealth used to have this sound of what sounded like distorted police sirens and screams. This how ever was removed since it made it harder for him to sneak up on Survivors.

Myers had a "close to tier up" audio stinger that would play to the Survivor who was being stalked and he was close to tiering up. This was again removed since it hindered his stealth ability.

The Unknown's voice sounding more human under UVX is a really awesome detail. Easily one of my favorites.

Trickster has some of the best sound design in the game. Guy sounds like he's truly living his best life in the fog. I like that he sometimes swears under his breath whenever he gets stunned by a pallet, too. And the way his chase music incorporates the heavily modified screams of his victims. That's a really cool detail.

Speaking of removed content, one of my favorites were the entries that each new killer would get, potentially written by Benedict Baker. They are all available on the wiki to be read and I think Spirit was the last killer to receive one. Freddy's is particularly interesting:

"This place plays tricks on your mind…constantly I question whether I dream or if I am awake. This most recent horrid ghoul seems to bridge that gap – between the states of being awake or asleep. I saw him hunting another poor soul, someone who was not as lucky as me. A man with a hat and a claw clad hand, a scarred man of sorts. He spotted me and what actually happened next is still a mystery to me. Dreams took over, and I was sure to die. But I woke up. Not like in the manner where I awake at the campfire, but instead I just woke up…inside this wretched forest, with memories of nightmares within. I am now afraid to sleep, but also to stay awake."

I really like Dracula's castle now that it's been pointed out to me. the FNAF map with cupcake jumping out from a locker is probably my favorite though!

At one point it appeared on the map as a decoration.

    01.jpg

    Possibly a Halloween menu.

    02.jpg

You can look for the difference in the Resident Evil and Blood Moon menus.

    This guy

An interesting detail about the Doctor's costume from the Cocoon collection. Previously, he did not have the animation of flying butterflies. I think this is compensation for the fact that subsequent costumes of other characters were more creative. The Doctor is one of the most animated characters due to electricity.
