Why does Boon: Illumination exist?
Why is this licensed perk in the Shrine of Secrets? It's an incredibly useless perk. You could give it global range and it'd still suck.

I forget about most of the boons and invocations in this game tbh.

Lol I forgot all about it until I checked shrine of secrets 🤣

I'll always go to bat for Illumination not being outright useless. Being able to see the whole gen spread for a single perk activation is not something you can get any other way, and it's not nothing in terms of usefulness.
I would agree that it lacks impact for being a Boon, though. I'd love to see it get a moderate update that more justifies its setup time.

Visionary is far more useful.

I wish they would just stop releasing new perks. The game is bloated with hundreds of perks which are neglected.

Eh, only by virtue of it being passive, imo.
Illumination does more and has better synergies, but neither perk is really all that good as far as I'm concerned. I think both deserve a serious update.

Yeah, looking through the other Boon perks available on the wiki, Illumination isn't worth the perk slot. It reminds me of Invocation: Treacherous Crows, where it sounds alright in very certain situations, but compared to other perks, it's just not worth it.

At least I don't have to search around for a totem like a dipshit.

Imagine this perk would have a lingering effect for like 3 minutes. It would suddenly be a lot better. I‘d still prefer that this boon works globally, but that‘s the closest we get I suppose.

I'd sooner buff what it does than give it a linger that lasts that long.
My pitch from back on Alan Wake's PTB hasn't really changed. Keep everything it does now, but add two things:
- It shows the aura of the exit gates
- It shows the aura of any survivor interacting with a highlighted aura
You could also add a short linger onto that as well, but the idea would be that while you're in the totem's range, you get great info on objectives and player positioning. This would make it a much more valuable boon in solo queue, because not only will you know that your teammate Meg is on a gen that's 80% done… you'd also know where that gen is if the killer chases her away. Among other applications, of course.

I doubt that this is enough. Both of your things are nice don‘t get me wrong but they don‘t touch what needs to be touched.

it's the perfect perk to take being a dbd veteran playing with casuals who LOVE indoor levels.
or if I play with people who despise indoor levels, I'll take Illumination as my way of saying "sorry "

i mean if it had global range it would cut down on people looking for gens so it wouldn't be useless at that point but it would just be boon map at that point

It's a pretty worthless boon.
It gets outclassed by Deja Vu and Plunderer's Instinct, or Detective's Hunch.
I would personally do this:
• Make it so that it also shows the auras of totems, pallets and windows.
• Replace the cleansing/blessing speed bonus with a 4/5/6 second lingering effect.
• Make it so this perk ignores the Blindness status effect while inside the boon's radius.2 -
I'd simply make it reveal the killers aura if both the survivor and killer are in the radius, it'd pair well with dark theory and shadow step.

This may be a hot take but I think boons were only really viable when Circle of Healing let survivors self heal without a perk or medkit, other boons were viable because you could use them in addition to it.
(Shadow Step can sometimes still get really good value on indoor maps with multiple floors)2
