Why did the Grading system change?
Why did they change the grading system so that you can’t drop to a lower grade? Poor survivors can perform poorly and still rank up, removing the ability for higher-skilled players to outgrade them.

That's not the point of grades. They are just a monthly bp reward system. They are not used for matchmaking like ranks were.
Depips were removed because they were pointless and only made people feel bad or frustrated.26 -
Oh boy, I thought at this point everybody would know that grades have NOTHING to do with matchmaking and are only for monthly BP rewards, nothing else.

because Grading isnt used for matchmaking at all and kinda just rewards you with BP for the Grade at the end of the month (13th). It’s supposed to only measure time played while still kinda rewards playing ‚well‘

Grades aren't used for matchmaking, like ranks were. The only purpose Grades serve is as a monthly BP bonus. An individual's skill level isn't tied to their grade, like it was with ranks, so depipping and deranking served no real purpose and were really just holdovers from a system that was no longer being used.

Along with what everyone else said, it just wasn't fair that people were de-pipping over factors beyond their control (i.e. getting tunneled, etc.).

So, what is used for matchmaking then? I took an extended break from the game, came back, and keep getting matched with people who have no clue what they’re doing. Where prior to my break if you reached gold or red rank you’d be playing with more experience survivors

The hidden MMR numbers are used for matchmaking. As surv if you survive your number goes up, and goes down should you be sacrificed. As killer your number goes up with 2+ kills and down with 2+ escapes, not counting hatch or DC's.
Of course backfilling due to loddy dodging wrecks this system.

Thank you

not counting hatch or DC's.
If you escape via hatch your mmr doesnt go up?

I don't believe so no . Could be mistaken, but I thought hatch escapes didn't change anyone's MMR. I'll look into it further.

I remember this being confirmed in the infamous hockey stream, but if this remains true we don't know because we've gotten no details since then. They could have changed how they calculate skill/success entirely but as far as we know based on what's been confirmed to us it remains an escape-based matchmaking system.

Yeah last I heard it's a draw still

Why does it matter? Grade used to be used for matchmaking, so it made sense to have people Grade down, but now we have MMR so Grade is only used for BP rewards (and isn't even visible to anyone else).
You used to be able to pip down if the killer was AFK or your teammates gave up. It's good they removed a situation where people got "punished" (admittedly only mildly, just with gameplay rewards being slightly more grindy) because your teammates or opponents refused to play

Yeah first response summed it up, the ratings sadly mean nothing and they clearly wanted to move away from rank meaning anything. Hidden MMR is the new ranking system and ranks are only a reward for playing.
I actually miss the old ranking system and have never been a fan of MMR, in OCE where I am, MMR is effectively meaningless most of the time anyway. As the player base is not big enough compared to EU/NA where there is a big enough pool of players for matchmaking to be fairly accurate.
