I will now compare Kaneki's vaulting vs Wesker's
Note: certain information (such as movement speeds) is sourced from the wiki—the wikigg one.
Vault speeds: From what I've seen and compared, these two are identical at 1 second (assuming Kaneki is enraged, as he should be in 90% of the match). Whether it's a window or a pallet, the vaults will take 1 second. This was notably NOT the case in the PTB, as Kaneki's pallet vault was 2 seconds in his base mode and roughly 1.33 in Enraged mode. Default was reduced to 1.5 to match the window vault, decreasing Enraged vault time to just 1 second.
Post-Vault cooldowns: Wesker has a cooldown of 1.5 seconds after vaulting. Kaneki has a slightly shorter time at 1.25 seconds.
Post-Vault Movement Speeds: After vaulting a pallet, Wesker's movement speed is reduced to 2.99m/s. Notably, Kaneki is slower at 2m/s.
The vault length is the same, Kaneki has a slightly shorter cooldown, and Wesker moves a little faster. On their own, they're pretty similar. YET, Kaneki's is the one people complain about, while Wesker's is mainly regarded as useless or gimmicky.
I believe this comes down to 2 factors.
- Windup. Wesker has a lengthy 1.5-second windup. The windup is loud, visually obvious, and gives plenty of time for the survivor to register and react. If you drop a pallet in his face and he vaults it, then hits you, it's often your own fault. Kaneki's is a mere 0.35 seconds. Kaneki has no problem waiting until you drop the pallet, then vaulting immediately. There's very little room for error on his side.
- Hindered. This is not as much of a factor as some might think, but it is a factor. It's 50% hindered for 0.5 seconds and applied when he's stuck in place, vaulting. If I mathed correctly (do not be afraid to fact check me), the survivor should lose roughly 1m of distance. This was a much larger factor on release when the length was one entire second. Combined with the shorter cooldown, Kaneki being slower than Wesker is hardly a factor.
