9 years and the same game
after nearly a decade it's a shame to see that no large amounts of content or mechanics have been added. The game released june 2016 and not even 6 months later bhvr released hag and with her hexes, with the intention of giving survivors a side objective to interact with. Now nearly 8 1/2 years following hags release, we've had almost no new mechanics or objectives or in game content to actually change the game. What are great mechanics that were added to make the game different?
Map interactables.
Maybe scourge hooks and boon totems as "new mechanics"
There's been no pre generator phase. (something to do before doing generators or something you could do alongside generators.)
No post gate phase (EGC doesn't count as it's just a bandaid for other issues and not really a game phase)
Killer hasn't gotten any new win conditions still just hooking. And killers that have built in win conditions are done in awful ways, (sadako, pig, myers).
No unique items in chests that you can't buy from a bloodweb. (would slow down game, also gambling, vecna is fun to play against and this is why.)
No killer who can't hook? (dredge is literally made of hooks, down a survivor, mori them, they don't die, they pop out of a locker somewhere, dredge earns a hook, after 12 hooks total darkness falls and dredge wins) This is literally bursting with flavor it baffles me they didn't try it.
Things like this breath a ton of new life into the game and it's really upsetting that the devs are content with where the game is, and the loop that it follows match after match.
I want a way to get to the trial from the entities realm, seeing survivor teammates doing the same and the killer approaching as we make our head start. I want to have to flip switches before doing gens, I want to do among us ass minigames instead of doing gens. I want ways to feel like I've completely doomed survivors without just using the hooks (unleashing an outbreak as nemesis, starting a brood as alien, bringing upon total darkness as dredge). I want to have a reason to loot chests for exceptionally unique and rare fun items (drop a pallet from a distance once, cancel a vault animation into a vault the other way once, perform an action for 3 seconds after complete see auras of exit gates, hooked survivors, and generators, teleport to one once)
These probably aren't the best or most balanced ideas but I heavily spit-balled what I thought would just be fun, to see the bhvr haven't tried the same is just a shame.

I wouldn't like the game to change too much, but I think survivor has become a little stale. I'd love to have some new items or even reworked items for survivor. A smoke bomb or something wacky to have fun with.

I don't think all or really any of my ideas should be implemented like I said i just spitballed, but it shows there's things that could be added which would be completely optional and only there for fun and the freshness of the game. Chest items is a big one, it would really only waste time as long as they were balanced right, Vecna has to be one of the most fun killers to play against IMO.

If the last 9 was nothing to you then you will never be satisfied.

Did BHVR ever say anything about how the blood Gens were received? I thought those were actually pretty fun and reminded me of that one finale from L4D2. I wouldn't mind if those were brought as a general mechanic.

- I don't agree 100%. It's true that many killer powers are "similar" to each other, but killer gameplay is still fresh and varied (I'll give you an extreme example, Nurse works extremely differently from Vecna and vice versa). The dramatic situation is in the survivors: no new items, the "strong" perks that are always used the same ones (except for VERY RARE exceptions like Finesse), no new objectives, no new "escape route" (maybe working for a secondary objective). If I were a Devs I would do something to make the survival experience more stimulating and fresh

The game is now so restricted that it feels much older than it actually is. When you take DBDs competitors and even games like Frank Stone into account, there's a lot the game can and should do to freshen things up.
Personally I'd love to see the age old idea of having to find components on the map to repair gens along with a checkpoint system every 25%. Evil Dead, Frank Stone, and Killer Klowns did all of that very well.
I'd like to see more ways to interact with the Killer as well. We don't have to pull weapons on them, but being able to set traps and things of that nature would be really fun. Blast Mine and Chemical Trap were a good start, but they're still too rudimentary.
Now that hatch has been nerfed, alternative means to advance the trial are incredibly important as well. Maybe factor in multiple ways to escape ala Killer Klowns and TCM with better scoring so it doesn't feel selfish or like a waste of time if you're left behind.

More stuff involving magic would be great. I love doing invocations but the risk/reward is currently not ideal, and there's only been two invocation perks. I also liked doing glyph challenges. The Void is also cool, and having a secondary world in regular games where you can go through portals and do different stuff would be neat. More interactive killer stuff, like transporting Sadako's tapes, would be cool too. Pulling Springtrap's axe out of your back isn't super engaging.
They kinda did the opposite of adding objectives with the new AFK crows. You can't even go hunting for hex totems without getting punished. Gen, chase, hook. Those are your fun choices now.

The game feels stale and dull for Survivors, not much innovation for them. Boons were a significant and exciting change, but Invocations are a disappointment: they carry high risk and cost in terms of health state and time, with mediocre returns. The game is essentially becoming Undetected, and Aura reads every few seconds. I know firsthand, thanks to Object of Obsession. My Aura goes out every 30 seconds, and I can rarely ever see anyone in return.

I totally agree. In fact, that stagnation is what I currently hate the most about the game, I feel like everything bad about it emanates from the same source: the current objetives. I understand that it's complicated to create new objetives, but I don't feel that they are trying either. Even the modifiers always boil down to the same gens vs. hooks.
As a survivor I want to do more than just sit in a skill-check simulator waiting for my turn to be chased. And as a Killer I want something more interesting than worrying about the match not ending in a few minutes.
