Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Would only 5 add-ons work for toolboxes specifically?

If you have seen in the PTB, the new add-on philosophy for items is 5 add-ons of each rarity, but I'm not really sure if that would work for toolboxes really…

Toolboxes have two components to them, repairing generators faster and sabotaging, with only 5 add-ons I'm not sure if the variety would be really good enough for both use cases you know.

And it also seems like the devs want to reduce bloodweb clutter by making 3 variants of each item only, which is cool, but again I'm not sure if that would work for toolboxes, since the point I mentioned above, maybe unless they make only one toolbox specific for Sabo and the other two for gen repait? not sure.

Another thing that I'm not sure about is the new charge system they have introduced in the PTB, it may still work with toolboxes I image, when repairing a gen you would get the option to press m2 to temporarily increase the speed of the repair for a toolbox charge. (bit I have no clue how would this charge system would work with healing yourself specifically).

Another thing is the new charge system as a whole, since both system are called "charges" it gets very confussing, so I assume they would get changed sooner than later with all the begginer friendly changes we have seen.

But what do you think?

I don‘t think toolboxes really have unnecessary addons besides the skill check and reduced noises one, but I rather see them buffed than removed. About rarities. I really hope they don‘t continue with making each rarity a better/worse version of one another and give each Item variant a niche where it is better.

Yes, it can be done. If the Common and Uncommon addons apply to both repairing and sabotaging at the same time, then survivors can easily have two addons that help both toolbox functions.

Also, I don't think toolboxes need the new charge system. Keys needed the new charge system, because some people were tapping the key for small bursts of time, to get like 20-40 aura reading uses out of the item. But toolbox tapping really doesn't do anything special, so it's fine with the old charge system.

    TOOLBOXES...

    Worn-Out Tools (Common):
    16 Charges
Unlocks the Sabotage action, which uses 5 charges.
Increases the Repair speed by 25%
Increases the Sabotage speed by 25%

    Commodious (Uncommon):
    16 Charges
Unlocks the Sabotage action, which uses 5 charges.
Increases the Repair speed by 50%
Increases the Sabotage speed by 50%

    Engineer's (Rare):
    16 Charges
Unlocks the Sabotage action, which uses 5 charges.
Increases the Repair speed by 75%
Increases the Sabotage speed by 75%

    Festive (Event):
    16 Charges
Unlocks the Sabotage action, which uses 5 charges.
Increases the Repair speed by 50%
Increases the Sabotage speed by 50%

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    ADD-ONS...

    Clean Rag (Common):
Increases the Repair speed of the Toolbox by 25%
Increases the Sabotage speed of the Toolbox by 25%

    Protective Gloves (Uncommon):
Increases the Capacity of the Toolbox by +12 charges

    Protective Gloves (Rare):
Suppresses the Loud Noise Notification to the Killer that is usually triggered after sabotaging a Hook.
Reduces the range at which your Generator-Repair noises can be heard by -12 meters.

    Socket Swivels (Very Rare):
Increases the Repair speed to the Toolbox by 75%

    Hacksaw (Iri):
Increases the Sabotage speed of the Toolbox by 75%

Toolboxes have addon and item overbloat which has led to too much bloodweb clutter, do you even use Clean Rag on your toolboxes? I don't. There's also too many toolbox variants, are you really using Alex's when you could just use Commodious? I don't want all these toolboxes I will never use, just the best ones, which as the best ones, should be hardest to find.

I would much rather see five separate toolboxes - one iri, one purple, one blue, one green, and one brown - and event ones only. Cap all toolboxes at 26 charges, use addons or a perk if you want more charges. Make the Commodious box as it is the iri one and do the best Repair speed, capped at 50% faster. Set Event toolboxes at 25% repair instead of 50%. Make the second best be the Purple repair box capped at 35% plus the buff from the purple sabo, then the other Blue one at 25% plus the sabo buff. Then Green, then brown with progressively smaller repair and sabo buffs.

Remove about half the addons and just basekit them. Make BNP use a charge on the Toolbox. Then make the best ones harder to get to prevent item overbloat. Perks should be the answer to Generator regression, not an item meta. This is the same that we just did for keys and the like.

I would argue flashlights need the same treatment too, we kinda have too many of those and nobody uses brown grips. You could collect the better items faster this way, without any of them being too harsh.

If they came up with more than 5 it would start to posion the bloodweb. So more than likely, they just split the addon count between two items keeping the overall addon count the same as before.

Maybe they should start removing awful BP offerings instead.

Funny how you think Toolboxes should be subject to this and not Torches.

If you had read my response you'd know some of us do think flashlights should be subject to this, too. There's too many Flashlight addons and nobody uses them. There's too many addons in general, the bloodweb is cluttered for Survivor.

Also, OP didn't bring up flashlights because this isn't about flashlights. It's about toolboxes.

Lots of Killer players also play Survivor too, you know.

You could do that by combining some effects. Keep the two charge addons as they are. Leave the two speed addons as they are but add to them that they increase sabo speed at the same rates. Last one of course being the BnP. While they're at it they could retire the Mechanics toolbox too.
