Why a "true casual mode" could never work in DBD
I think there a two reasons why there would never be a super casual mode in DBD. The main reason of course would be the effect of killer wait times in regular mode. That's always a consideration in adding any "really interesting" mode that might over compete with regular q.
The secondary reason is because DBD is simply too competitive for many people and nobody would respect it. If you ever wanted to gather a ton of highly competitive players, bully squads, tiktokers and streamers in one place, just create a "casual newbie" mode. And they would all rush there to have easier games. And I'm not saying this to be hateful. Because some people would just do it because at their current high MMR, every match is more like a tournament and they just want to be able to win without sweating as much. Which, to be fair, might not be much fun for the player with 100 hours playtime that they're going against.
But some competitive players would use a super casual modein order to troll or farm casuals either for amusement or for content. And eventually, it would devolve into people complaining "casual mode is just like regular mode." And they'd be right.

True casual mode doesnt work because it's already in the game (it's the "play" button to queue up) and is utterly abused by people running broken meta against visibly worse loadouts / opponents because the game forces people of all kinds of skill level to play basically in the same pool against all kinds of ######### no matter how unfair it is.
MMR system works only on paper, on practice it consistently puts you against opponents that are not even remotely on your skill level.
Even if it did work, the loadout disparity is astounding and unfair to the point it massively amplifies or nullifies any kind of skill difference depending on who has the better loadout.

A casual mode wouldn't work for the reasons you've mentioned. Perhaps a competitive mode would though? It would explicitly be a mode for those looking for a challenge. Not sure how it would work out but it might be an interesting idea.

We already have it. It's called 2v8.
It has a lot of the issues you mentioned.

A casual mode would never be perfect, but it could be balanced in a way that makes it unattractive to sweaty players. Part of that would be incorporating a beefed up mode with a true ranking system alongside it. Another would be introducing a stronger scaling difficulty than what we've seen in 2v8 to the casual mode to prevent steamrolls. Better matchmaking might also help, although given how bottlenecked the queues are lately, Idk that we have the capacity for that.

I feel like if we just took the game exactly how it is, slapped a "casual mode" sticker on it and didnt change a thing other than removing MMR... it wouldn't work. If they had a similar system as the classes in 2v8 though, we MIGHT be able to work with that.

Isn't dbd already casual?

Not really, the amount of perks to learn and unlock make it so its not something you can really just pick up and play. Mario Kart for example is something you can invite friends who are hanging out with you to play afew rounds with, even if they've NEVER played before. You can't really do that in DBD outside of custom matches.

The problem is exactly that. A "casual mode" would just get used as a warm-up space by high-level players before jumping into their real (non-casual) lobbies.
Like: "Gonna hop in and snack a couple easy rounds real quick, warm up against some chill, casual players.""Let me stomp a few baby squads or casual killers before I queue into my real sweaty matches"
To make a mode like that actually work, it would need a massive rework — you'd have to strip away a lot of the "toys" from both killers and survivors to make it completely unattractive to sweaty players.
Not just perks, but things like boosted god-spawns, free info, gen splits, or anything that makes it easy to dominate casuals fast. Otherwise, it’ll just become regular mode again, but worse.1 -
wouldnt work because their current mode has an mmr system that isnt tight enough. It values speed over anything else really.
Casual modes can work as long as the mode that is ranked provides proper incentive to work. Thats why LoL unranked stuff works just fine.
First though, MMR system that they currently have needs expansion and way more variables it looks at in game rather than just escapes and kills. And it also needs to be extremely tight and have safe guards.
Waiting a bit longer to get into a game that will actually have evenly skilled players in multiple categories is better than what we currently have. Ill take people in a different region if it makes my games actually make sense on survivor.2 -
I feel like we have modes that are close enough to "casual" to qualify already. With a few more modifications, I think they could become "true" casual modes. Chaos Shuffle has the most potential, but given that the anti slugging system they were going to test out has already gone back to the drawing board, I don't know what else they could be cooking up to take away the competitive edge.
I don't buy into the idea that because the sweats will always flock to a casual mode like moths to a flame, Behaviour shouldn't even bother with creating one. I think the downfall of any casual mode is the same for any of the other modifiers - the lack of a big enough player base to support one. This is the bigger problem imo. Casual modes in games like Fortnite work because they have a massive player base. Being a mature rated horror game and a bit niche, DBD will probably never be able to reach the critical mass of other live service games.

People would just smurf and sweaty players would queue in casual queues to bully casual and inexperienced players.
Unfortunately it goes back to the whole 'this is why we cant have nice things' - you always have to account for the lowest common denominator and the potential for them to abuse things for their own personal gratification.

The 4v1 issue kind of makes a casual mode impossible.
In team style games (say 5v5) throwing randoms together works because its true for both sides. In DbD, survivors are frequently only as strong as their weakest link.

In order to have casual mode you would need players to actively ignore vulnerable states the opposing side puts themselves in.

2v8 would be okay if they deleted Legion lol

I imagine a casual mode could work, but it would be playing against a bot killer or bot survivors for reduced rewards. Some people play for fun with or without their friends, and a casual mode would allow them to do so without the negative aspects of gameplay that drive people away: No camping, no tunneling, no grouping up against the killer. A casual mode would also allow players to learn how a killer or perks function while still gaining bloodpoints and having a less competitive experience. Survivors would pair up as usual, but would match against a random bot killer, and any killer players would have bot survivors as opponents with curated developer builds. It would fulfill the need for a more in-depth tutorial, as it would be a tutorial mode in and of itself.

Even if they tightened the MMR brackets again, wouldn't help so long as lobby dodging and shopping around exists. One or two dodges and their system goes out the window and it grabs anyone available if players are waiting too long.

…What on earth would "true casual mode" be?
This is a sincere question, I have no idea what you'd change about DBD's current mode - which by all accounts is already the casual/quick play type of mode - to make it "true casual".

A casual mode would need a whole different set of objectives both for killer and for survivors. But they will never ever do that so....

I feel that a casual mode is already in the game, but it's basically the custom matches. Anything else is based on a number of factors.
Sadly - as you say - having a "true casual mode" would bring a couple of large issues that would be detrimental overall.
Perhaps why the modes were added were to offer a more casual approach. Light's Out, Chaos Shuffle, and 2v8 were all meant to be for a more casual experience, but unfortunately - unless it's a custom game - one can't chose the people who join each trial.
