I made sure I was snug into that pallet but by appearing he cancelled out my ability to vault?

my guess is that you would have been fine by not moving to the side like you did (understandable, really unsafe pallet)

There was plenty of room for my character to leap over that pallet.

I could have swore that you can vault anywhere if you're at the pallet, but maybe it vacuums you into the centre when you do vault and since the middle was occupied, you were denied.

it doesnt really help on the current build sometimes killers havnt passed through the pallet yet too and you press the prompt and your character still stands there and stares as they approach sometimes haha
What I do is spam vault until it forces them out of cloak as if you have better ping they cant break the pallet and have to hit you, and you can mindgame around that.1 -
Remember that the prompt for basically everything in this game always brings you to the center of whatever youre trying to do, meaning he was in a prime spot for bodyblocking. To avoid him bodyblocking like that in this scenario you could of immediately vaulted the pallet, and if he commited to going around to kick the pallet you would of probably had enough time to make it to the window to the right.
As for other scenarios of him trying to get in front of you while youre trying to make it to a pallet/window, bodyblock him yourself. Sometimes a Wraith will over commit and try to bodyblock you so hard on a window that you can just start running towards something else.
When you know he has Shadow Dance and you 2 end up at a pallet, initially do a slow vault to prevent him from breaking it, then vault back for safety. If you see he's still cloaked and trying to break it, you can keep spamming fast vaults back and forth to prevent him from breaking it and force an uncloak. Once you see him about to uncloak, start running away to make distance. Even if he 99s the uncloak and breaks it quickly with Shadow Dance, you usually have enough distance gained to make it to another pallet or window.
Basically all of this just to really say to counter his bodyblocking is by you bodyblocking him as well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue
I felt like I was being gaslit by the game. I press space, I see my character vaccum backwards slightly into the pallet then nothing happens.

Well, don't stop vaulting. That makes this harder to do…
Just force him to at least start uncloacking at every pallet/window, it's highly annoying and waste lot of time.

It sounds like a lot, but once you get the hang of it its really not too difficult. A few practice sessions in customs and youll be golden :)

Dropping your item makes you lose collision for a few seconds. It helps a lot when he is bodyblocking shack for example

Another tip and nice detail: If you are camping a pallet, all you need to do is to be patient and pay attention to the bell while he is 'uncloaking'. If the bell disappears immediately it means he is faking the uncloak, but if you see him lower his arm and the bell goes down a bit slow, you drop the pallet and get the stun.
