Is Nightlight.gg a reliable site for stats or not?
Genuine question. Is Nightlight reliable? How does Nemesis, Trapper and Ghostface have the same killrate? (48%).

If I remember correctly, I believe the devs came out and said they’re not even closely accurate. People just use them anyway, because that was all they had before stat releases.

It’s reliable in that all the stats are verified. It’s unreliable in that it’s a very small sample size.

This is due to very few people actually verifying themselves for Nightlight, right? I know I’ve never even looked up the website before.

Exactly. Almost all of their stats are self-reported, so if you’ve never submitted any, and most of us haven’t, there is no automatic way for them to get counted.

Nightlight has always suffered from having a low sample size compared to the population, contributions can be curated by submitters, and submitters tend to be primarily English speaking players. (Which is usually why the "top ten" perks don't reflect the self care meta of the Asia region, as one example)
I feel like it's also suffered a loss in traffic since bhvr now offers official stats directly, so people don't have to take extra steps and go out of their way to get that information from a third party now.

They count abandons as escapes so the kill rates are far lower than they are in reality. The stats on nightlight were always slightly lower than the official ones the devs release and it got worse when abandons were added. Also worth noting that the official stats website also counts abandons as escapes. So basically everyone is running around with an inflated escape rate if they use the abandon feature. How this wasn't fixed before they launched the site is beyond me. I personally don't understand the point of having stats when they aren't accurate in the slightest. It seems like Behavior's internal stats are the only ones that are actually accurate at this point. According to Mandy their internal stat tracking counts abandons as kills.

No, it’s not

It's somewhat useful for trends I'd say, but yeah a very small sample size indeed.
Being self-reported that alone opens it up to picking and choosing what to upload or not. It's only in English and unlikely to be used my those on console so it'll always lack global reach. This is illustrated by the perk usage of Self Care, which the devs always show as among the most run but Nightlight does not, as in some regions it's insanely used.

It's not. It used to be more reliable because when BHVR released kill rates nightlight's numbers were usually pretty close, but now they are way off.
I still bring it up for things like game distributions because its the only thing we have that's data on that.

They get close on some things, but way off on others. The people who use that site tend not to be your casual types, but more those who take the game seriously, play the best perks and the stronger killers. So their sample sizing on non-meta or less played, or perceived weaker, killers, is likely quite small. Plus it's easy to pick and choose what games to upload and what to leave out. Then there's the fact that it's an English site, so less likely to be used by non-English speakers. A good example of this is Self Care, it's a notoriously popular perk in the asian region so ranks quite high in official stats compared to NLs stats.

The thing is, many players who use Nightlight know how it figures things. Like It has an option for "Hatch" and "Hatch - Given" If you choose Hatch, then that counts as an escape. However, if you chose Hatch - Given it counts as a kill, because the idea is that you COULD have gotten the 4k (chose not to slug for the 4k, or carried last survivor to hatch) but did not it still counts. If you don't like this counting as a kill in the stats, then don't mark the hatch as given (even if it was)
Now, the main stats website definitely needs to be fixed because that's skewing our data (even if their internal data is correct, why do we not get the same data?)0 -
Now I trust nightlight way more than official tracker, at least because people can manually updates data, it has much more control (games where u were kicked out of server because of technical issues doesn’t count, while on official it counts as dc and then escape/kill for other side) while bhvr’s barely track 5% of my matches and doesn’t allow upload records myself

Only if it prove your point

Not accurate, but it was the closest we had to accuracy until DBD introduced stats.
However, because they are glitchy and don't always record my daily trials, I doubt even the dev's records are accurate.

- Figure out how they collect data.
- Determine if that method is able to get a good picture.
- Dont accept nightlight just because its the only numbers you have.
