Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Hatching a Plan...

I not been into the forums lately, and I have become a casual DBD player lately. I, more than not, watch gameplay of others from streaming and tiktok.

I see alot of fun and whatnot but also since Springtrap arrived. Been seeing alot of cockyness. I am what it's called a 50/50 player, back in the day. But I call myself more Killer Centric 60/40.

Anyways, back to the cockyness of this game. Simply put. It's about Hatch.

I continuously see tiktok posts of players on both side camping hatch (as killers) and getting played by impatience as a survivor (the last survivor i will add, which i will get into) bypasses and "escapes" and then that killer gets butthurt for just not closing the Hatch and been busy taunting and waste time not getting their 4K. Because that cockyness got the better of them.

And then there's the cockyness of survivors (again the last survivor because the three others have failed at their main objective, surviving) why for the life of me do survivors always believe it's a win, when the killer had done their job and killed three survivors, but that sole survivor posts as if hatch is a win situation? It's just luck, nothing to brag about. I personally believe hatch shouldn't give that much bloodpoints to begin with really. But why is it the mentality that escaping through hatch is something to be proud about? And if I personally make an assessment over it on a tiktok. And I'm not there to kiss butt like the rest of the comments do. But also genuinely giving a call out that's not constituting a win since they failed at their main objectives of surviving. So why does Hatch get called a W when it's really not? Killer can get lucky and find it first, they brought a key and opening it still escaping, so then they full prepared to escape alone. Which that's not a team player. And a offering or map or perk aids in finding hatch, they fully aware they're planning to escape through hatch no matter their team mates.

I know TL;DR. So to sum things up, why Hatch players get so cocky over escaping through a lucky break finding a hole in the ground or Killers camping it and not just close it? Also... anybody miss Hatch Stand-Offs?

You should know. The game doesn't reward Survivors as a team, so individual escapes are wins. With Killer, it's their equivalent of bagging at the gates (as well as bleeding out).

And I do miss hatch stand-offs. That was back when the game didn't come to a total standstill. As it is now, hatch literally is just what you said—a lucky draw or a consolation prize. It's not a mechanic that moves the trial forward when it bottlenecks anymore.

I rarely taunt as survivor but I think hatch taunts are more like a "haha lucky me" than anything more malicious. I hate survivors who taunt killers for no good reason. I also hate getting humped by killers for equally no good reason.

But I've also managed to kill people because they took the time to taunt, and I've slid up behind hatch-camping killers who knee-jerk and hit me instead of closing it, so sometimes you get what you deserve.

sure it does, otherwise survivors could make a sport of just hiding forever. hatch and EGC encourage survivors to move if they want to resolve a cooked match.

just because people attach their egos to a mechanic designed to close games doesn't mean it doesn't do what it's intended just because some people would camp hatch for 15 minutes because a survivor tbagged them one time.

I still think they should have left the hatch grabs in the game, but also give the option for killers to close it.

Make the hatch really feel like a last resort. Once you find it, you have to leave.

It doesn't. At least not anymore. When it spawns with at least 2 people left, it forces the trial to move forward. Currently, the game realistically ends with 2 survivors and more than 1 gen left to complete (and even that's a dice roll). Without hatch, players are able to stall indefinitely. Not to say that they couldn't do that before or that Killer couldn't slug for hatch, but it was more effective at moving the trial forward. Now it's just a consolation prize which doesn't really benefit the game at all.

All that being said, and this is neither here nor there, it would be neat if we had some sort of hara-kiri mechanic to move the trial forward during that 2v1 phase. Something to keep the momentum going that isn't as unreliable as hook has now become.

Hatch is no more than a means to an end for me. And I honestly dont see any cockiness in my own games. If youre seeing it on tiktok alot, it's there because it's obviously profitable content for the person posting it, so they will keep doing it because people keep watching it. That doesn't mean it's the reality of most games.

Hatch play is completely uneventful for me. I sacrifice the third person and will half-heartedly look for it but in reality want the last survivor to find it so I can go to my next game immediately. If they wanna boast about finding it, it doesn't matter to me, I've already forgotten about it and queued up for my next match.

When they announced the abandon feature (I think they called it surrender at the time) I was hoping I'd get to dramatically unalive myself in a flashy fashion. Pressing a button to become a bot was as disappointing as it gets.

Yeah. I wish it wasn't utilized as often either, since it doesn't feel much different from everyone going next if we're all going next anyway. But ironically the 2v1 is where that'd be the most useful, which is why I think it'd be a little more successful utilized that way. You can sort of "weaponize" it too to see who gets out first and who has to deal with getting moried lmao

You clearly think it's a win in your mind if you needed to write an essay about how you should be happy and excited to escape. Your putting way to much energy into a really small part of this game that is borderline unhealthy!

To the survivor they won if they escape simple as that. For the killer getting a 3k is a win. This is where you as the killer the ego becomes threatened and anger confusion and attempts to rationalize start popping up (your here by the way) you can win.. while the single survivor wins as well. Both are not mutually exclusive. Your fun isn't lessened by others happiness of surviving . Maybe if the game added a "you win screen" when you get three kills it would help
