Fog Vials have a max of 2 charges now

I never thought BHVR would nerf an item more quickly and harder than the pig

It was the first item with infinite charges. I love that idea because the rounds are all repetitive with items breaking down so eventually you're back to repairing, healing, all that with bare hands. Then you get an item that slowly charges which was really fun to use only for it to now be basically useless. What would I need 2 charges for, Killer still finds me inside the fog 60% of the time. Just remove it completely then and act like the item never happened, would be better

I don't mind fog vials in concept and I do think they should have charges instead of being rechargable, but if they're gonna have only two charges they need to be much harder to track survivors through. I'm sure they'll find a middle ground eventually but come on, at least make it like 4 charges while the vials are as weak as they are now.
Meanwhile, maps and keys I haven't seen a single survivor use since the update. They have extremely limited use case, and they still have charges. If anything, maps and keys should be the item to have a cooldown but no charges. And let maps track objects again like generators or totems. Why was that removed? Detectives Hunch + a map would be almost viable if they made maps and able to track objects, and have say 30 second cooldown or something, but infinite uses. All they do is show pallets/windows, etc. Still way weaker to bring than a strong medkit or toolbox.

Im away on summer vacation so haven't had the chance to play for a few weeks. It's a shame the only new survivor item in over half a decade didn't even last 2 weeks before being rendered useless.
At this point I have to ask why bother? Just remove it and refund everyone for their items.13 -
1. Of the two recent nerfs to Fog Vials (reduced opacity; max 2 charges), do you feel that one of these in particular pushed the item from feeling viable to feeling like it's not worth using? If so, which was it?
Both push the item into being not worth it compared to med-kits or toolboxes for me. For the opacity change - scratchmarks, aura, and sound are irrelevant if the killer can just straight up see you. Having charges, especially so few charges, is just going to have me stuck in a state of feeling like it's better to save it for a theoretical better time later.
Med-Kits are guaranteed to give value when you use them to self heal.
Toolboxes are guaranteed to give value when you use them to speed up generator progression.
Fog vials may or may not give value depending on a number of factors - whether the killer was even planning on committing to you, whether you were going to use it preemptively + whether the killer even knew where you were in the first place, whether you have somewhere to run that isn't very obvious as soon as you break line of sight, whether the killer randomly chooses your direction correctly, etc.
So long as the charges are so limited, the situations where it gives value so vague, situational, and occasionally unknowable, and you can see right through it anyway then I'm rarely going to feel like it's the right time to use it. If that's the case, I'm personally better served bringing a med-kit or a toolbox.
It's kind of disappointing because fog vials feel fun to use but with few charges and minimal efficacy I'm just handicapping myself by not bringing something else.
2. If you could make one specific change to Fog Vials that'd push them towards being an item you'd enjoy using, what would it be?
It's not really one change (nor would I even really call it a 'change') but I would revert it to how it was on release and just fix the bugs like not allowing chase to start and it being inconstantly opaque across maps.

I use keys, especially as they now open chests instantly

For me, the infinite charges was the main selling point. I preferred them at 40% opacity vs the current 33%, but if you absolutely must keep them at 33%, you NEED to remove the downsides from the iri addon.
If you keep them as an item with charges, they need to go back to their original strength, iri addon included.
The way I see it, those are your only 2 options if you want players to still use them in some capacity
Edit: Actually, reading through this thread, I'm seeing people basically split into these exact two camps. I propose the blood web contain 2 fog vials then. One with infinite charges and 33% opacity, and one with 2 charges with 45% opacity and smaller radius/shorter duration. Change iri addon to add more charges. Does that not give everyone want they want(?)3 -
no no they have lots to do with topic you are asking for something that was good on survivor to be nerfed and defending a item that is garbage now is good. you clearly Play blight so you must lose a lot vs survivors right? id like to know your stats, especially if you play survivor. Please share. Let us see how much survivors have won against you, for you to ask for them to be weaker.
and honestly i think this should be the way moving forward when killers cry over survivor changes. on a pvp game.5 -
They really do not and as seeing as you aren't going to have a constructive argument there's no point in furthering this because I can already guess what you're gonna say to outdated stats and act as if they're current because the last time I seriously played blight was before 6.1.0 and have only really played at most 10 blight games between then and now.

I understand whats trying to be done here, but the reality is that the nerf was already announced about a week before it happend. The testing period for the item felt small. The feedback from what I remember was also mixed from what I could gage. Some survivors did not like vial, I presume because it wasnt used properly. In my honest opinion - as a survivor main who dabbles in killer as well - I played what had to have been about 30-50 games with unnerfed vial (disregarding the opacity nerf first). I can confidently say, I felt it was too strong. It doesnt justify the two charges it has now though.
For context, I feel its important for me to explain why its strong. Two reasons. One is time gated behind the fact that most killers are still adjusting to how to play around vial, and understand what it does fully. Second is because when used properly, it becomes a powerful deception item that allowed me to break a majority of chases, either by losing the killer completely or by gaining enough distance to reach another loop thats a good distance away. Now of course, effectiveness could go down when killers understand the mind game that is ususally involved with a vial play.
Of course, behavior realized the potential of unlimited uses in this aspect (very quickly) and announced the nerf before the patch came in. However, as many other plays already expressed in feedback, the two charges - from what was unlimited uses at a 60 second base CD, is overkill. I understand behavior might be trying to gage how two charges affecs gameplay from a bigger picture, but now you wont have me, and most other players using it at all because of its extremely low value (two uses per game). It might end up in the same cobwebbed bucket of maps and keys if it isnt adjusted.
Anyways, thanks for coming to my tedtalk ill be using my medkits and toolboxes again <3

The problem is we still have absolutely no idea what 33% opacity is supposed to look like. Both the above screenshots were taken with a 33% opacity fog vial. Which one of these screenshots is what 33% opacity is supposed to look like?
It's impossible for people to accurately state what opacity number is fair, when the fog vials are this buggy.

This is giving me flashbacks to when the Reagents on RPD looked like hairballs all over the floor.
