Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

My take on new fog vial tune (how it impacts matchmaking) (ryan)

Its so refreshing and i believe many of you probably agree here it is to have a brand new item in game to use as a survivor and to go up againts a new item too as a killer.

Okay so ill be short and on point, I am thrilled that fog vial is in game i was spooked at first since i main michael myers with vanity or scratched mirror and full stealth aura build but upon playing many matches since fog vile launched in pubs has been really fun.

My matches were mainly now mix of fog vial and medkit and toolboxes rather than 1 medkit 3 toolboxes or 3 medkit and 1 toolbox or worse all 4 /4.

Now with all these nerfs to the fog vial im afraid players will go back if not already are back to using meta items to just be done with the match, the fog vial seems butchered now like for no reason it did not require such a quick nerf after lowering its opacity.

Also Ryan i hope you get time to read this part too, like please there has to be something done to promote longer matches to make up for such long queue times as a killer, playing survivor feels rewarding while killer not so much, fog vial helped that part as a push in right direction to guide players to try something new and fresh.

I am a killer main and I honestly found Fog Vials mildly annoying at best. The previous batch of nerfs made them mostly perfect IMO as a nifty but not OP tool to help you escape.

Nerfing them to just 2 charges. Naaaw. That needs buffing. Make it like... 5 with add ons to well... Add extra charges. Or vary the number of charges by rarity. Make the use more strategic

Same here, well either way since its now 2 charges how about those charges get refilled after each gen is completed or something, like i dont know at this point, maybe they decided to butcher it because people spammed it and saw in their own stats it was spammed and giving more wins than what it should have.

But in my own experience as playing michael the previous changes were not ruining the experience as a killer or won the survivors a match.

Again i will still stand by the fact toolboxes are the main enemies of this game that harm killer experience for its queue times

I bless the Entity for being in a matchmaking place with like 15-60 seconds killer queues.

Honestly it is not just toolboxes that are an issue - it is the whole gen rush meta. I don't run Gen slowdown perks so my perspective may be biased, but making gens take longer to fix would benefit the game

Fog vial was the ticket to the right direction, now sadly the hype train is over and hate train begins and people returning to their gen rush builds, every match now is stake out, hyperfocus with toolboxes and recharging them.

Like idk at this point, i just know ill take full prior changed fog vial even if they buffed that on top than a squad using these gen rush builds and toolboxes or medkits

This is basically how I feel, but from the other end of the tier list. Fog Vials won no matches against my Billy, but flashlights and toolboxes won a majority of them.

Fog vial needs to be returned in its original state (minus opacity) since in "some" cases its a bit too much with addons, the opacity needs a middle ground of current and original state.

Right now people just running medkits and such

It needs to be returned to its original state, hard stop. Opacity should only be changed once the bugs involving lighting and differing fog opacity depending on map are fixed, as only then will anyone be able to correctly discern what is the intended opacity and whether or not it makes it too difficult for killers to maintain tracking after it is popped.

This should be tested in multiple trials across multiple maps with multiple killers and perk combinations. Here's a few examples that should be tested in every arrangement:

    • indoor vs outdoor maps
    • outdoor maps with low walls on loops (Azarov's Resting Place) vs outdoor maps with high walls (Coldwind Farm)
    • small loops (cars on Haddonfield/Badham) vs large loops (jungle gyms)
    • multiple floors (Haddonfield, Hawkins, Forgotten Ruins, Badham, using a Fog Vial to escape into the basement)
    • how do Fog Vials interact with Iron Will, Lightfooted, Lucky Star, Self-Preservation, Parental Guidance, Hardened, etc etc
    • how do Fog Vials interact with Stridor, Whispers, Spies, Phantom Fear, Face the Darkness, etc etc
    • how do they interact with Spirit and Bat Form Dracula
    • how do they interact with Killer Instinct killers like Legion or Twins
    • how do they interact with third person killers like Dog Form Dracula
    • how do they interact with small killers like Chucky and Victor
    • how do they interact with Singularity's cameras
    • how do they interact with Springtrap's office auras, or if they even should
    • have 4 survivors use Fog Vials near the Lament Configuration. make a Pinhead player try to find it anyways.
    • how do they affect stalking killers, like Michael and Ghostface, and should they interact with the reveal mechanic for Ghostface and Unknown
    • will Fog Vials prevent you from getting hit by Hellfire, Punishment of the Damned, and Nurse blinks, or will players need other options for these?
    • how does Oblivious status effects make survivors act with Fog Vials?
    • if a Fog Vial becomes like a flashbang (a temporary item), will survivors use it in tandem with flashlights most often, or will they use strong items still?
    • do they block universal auras, like a revealed Springtrap? Should they? This will effect Skull Merchant's universal aura reveal mechanic as well.
    • do they block killer prop auras, especially ones that move like Nemesis's zombies and Knight's guards? Should they?
    • do they block locker auras for Huntress and Trickster? Should they?
    • test with survivors who are loud when injured, like Feng, Soma, Rebecca, Bill, and Michonne
    • test with survivors who are quiet while injured, like Ace and Ada
    • test with survivors with quiet footsteps, like Renato
    • test with survivors who have loud footsteps, like Ada on indoor maps
    • test various survivors of varying outfit color (note how the 5 survivors listed in the loud while injured section have wildly different outfit palettes) and on various different maps. Will Soma blend in better with a Fog Vial on Ormond or Eyrie, and will he benefit more from his Deep Rift cosmetic? Will Bill blend in with Yamaoka's foliage or Haddonfield's bushes with a Fog Vial? Now swap the two - how do they fare? Bill may blend in better with his anni cosmetic on Ormond Lake Mine, while Soma may benefit from Deep Rift around the Yamaoka shack and Myers house, but would it be even better with a Fog Vial?

Once all of this is done internally, release it to live in a unique "hey we are testing Fog Vials HERE" queue with the same caveat of "once you queue you cannot change survivor" that killer has, and treat it like a event queue. This ensures mass participation for all types of players to guarentee maximum feedback. Make it a similar event to Shirt My Survivor, maybe, and have dev accounts running through the queue to ask PC players for feedback live in end game and pregame chats.

Is this a lot of work for a item they won't get paid boatloads of cash for putting in the game (same excuse for why maps are made less)? Yes. Will it be good for the game nonetheless? Yes!!

Oh yeah definantly honestly the original state needs to come back, like i believe hard 100% reason why people demanded a "nerf" (including myself) was because of lightning bug in maps.

And everything you stated needs to be confirmed too by devs

It doesn't matter if the item isn't used or if it's weak compared to others; no item should have unlimited uses.

Let's say you have 3 chases in a match, and thanks to the Fog Vial, you managed to escape twice. You've already achieved 5 chases in that match, what more do you want?

I see your point but same goes for toolboxes with built to last perk or actually any item of that matter?

Like why not just then make fog vial recharge like any other item.

Also fog vial in my opinion never worked that well, you have to time it so superb in a chase even before chase starts to escape killer, if he is close by and has LOS on you nearby he will see your initial movement and track it.

Plus it doesnt really "hide" scratches or blood properly because it shows initial scratch marks and i believe blood you can still track.

And again ill rather take 5 chases or more as long as they dont run toolbox gen rush builds and focus on different plays.

Like i did not mention in my post im sitting at 78% WR on myers and my games are just infested with people doing 4 medkits or 4 toolboxes or 3 of each and 1 flashlight.

I saw briefly before all fog vial nerfs them running 1 fog vial in each next match i played it was fun it was challenging i think fog vial is unique experience especially againts myers that pops out through fog vial and chases u and then downs
