Why does every update take up to an hour to patch?
I understand when there's new content, but tiny bug patches that have maybe 800mb of files takes up to 30 - 60 minutes to download. Is this normal? I haven't seen a game that needs that much time for a tiny patch note.

As far as I know, it's the .PAK format. Everything needs to be decompiled and recompiled. At least that's how the mods worked.

That's a long time. That could be due to internet speed. For me the hotfix 3 took about 10 minutes to download. The patch before that (I could be wrong) was long due to the engine update.

If you're on PC, it's probably you're hard drive being a bottleneck and cracking under the strain of the numerous hard drive intense "enhanced user experience" features that no one asked for that Microsoft keep adding for some reason. Could be a myriad of issues bottlenecking you somewhere.
Yes I hate PCs, as a programmer and former PC gamer... there are a constant pain in the butt, and I deal with their crap all day, I don'twanna deal with it when I get home. While yes offers the best experience... it also requires the highest level of maintenance and troubleshooting of any gaming system. 😅

Wi-fi can also be a culprit. If you use a wireless connection, it can be unstable at times, causing download speeds to become unbearably slow, thanks to the router being backed-up by download requests.
It also could be due to the speed of your hard drive, or interface.
Not sure what PC specs you have, but there are a plethora of factors at play as to why you experience slow update speed.- Hard-drive - Mechanical (traditional) hard-drives are especially slow when it comes to random writing, which is the case when you download the updates for DBD, as it is getting installed at the same time it downloads. Solid-state drives (SSD's) are not that troubled with random writing, since they are flash memory based.
- Processor - If your PC has a slow processor, or one that has fewer cores, it can sometimes get overloaded when downloading a lot of data, slowing down the progress significantly. - I have a 12-core myself, and I have sometimes seen up to 30% utilization when dowloading things on Steam.
- Network - Wireless networking, as stated above can be a major factor. To ensure you have a smooth connection, use a cable. It is much more reliable, and the interface can handle a much greater data throughput.
