Developers, go play killer.
After reading your patch notes there’s no question you guys have no idea how killers are played, the time it takes to kill a survivor and the knowledge you requiere to actually challenge good / decent survivors.
If you are going to balance your game for people that have no skill, are new or are just messing around, you are effectively killing the skill progression and your established player base. That also means the game becomes boring and unrewarding fast.
You sponsor competitive now? You didn’t learn anything? You realize that 90% of the killer roster requieres handicaps for survivors in order to have a chance? Have you seen how matches are played? You realize that self unhook even if the killer is face camping the hook is forbidden? You realize that if the killer doesn’t eliminates a survivor by tunneling him, he loses the game every time? I get it. Not everyone has the skill of such players, but most decent and loyal players aspire to become that good, without taking into consideration all these facts, you clearly demonstrate that you balance the game for complaints instead of facts.
Do you realize that you basically destroyed a killer (sadako) making her completely useless and punishing her for using her power? She is already a low tier killer, now you totally deleted her from the roster.
6 hooks before a kill is non realistic. Specially with the current state of the game, paired with the new super buffed up survivors with 14 perks base kit in this new patch, what do you think it’s gonna happen? A good chase takes around 60-90 seconds. It’s imposible to have the time to hook 6 survivors before you lost the game with the measures you are implementing. Really no one can defend what you did with this patch. If you think all these changes are good, either you haven’t played killer ever, you are a survivor main that wants to steamroll every killer or you just joined the game.
Another disappointing moment. The only depth this game has are killers, and you effectively killed the role.

90 seconds for a good chase? What?? That's a bad chase.
What are the 14 perks exactly?
You don't have to get 6 hooks before a kill. The penalty is if you hook someone twice in a row and you cause them to die before you've hit the 6 hooks. They're trying to prevent the type of early-game tunneling that dooms survivors immediately.

This game will finally be fun when they drive away ALL of the survivors and the queue times are infinite.

Still having 6 hook stages so you can kill someone without heavy penalty (not being able to block and damage gens) is kinda meh I would get it if this would work like until two gens are done, 3 gens left is good for first kill but they didnt wrote anywhere so its even on one gen left and is stupidly overpowered for weaker killers.

Sadako doesn't need to tunnel, kill survivors immediately when their Condemned meter fills up, or Inexorable Stare them to death before she has gotten 6 hooks in order to win or have fun. I don't know where people keep getting this idea that she is broken if she's discouraged from using her mori early on.
What if the survivors know how to counter her power - does she just lose those games since she can't build up condemned stacks early in the game? Of course not.

I mean, do you usually have a kill at 2 gens done? Because both my killer and survivor matches don't usually have one until 2 or less gens are left. Hookings, yes, but not kills. Someone dead at one or two gens is a really early death and is what they're trying to prevent.
Again, you don't have to have the 6 hook stages. If you bounce back and forth between two survivors and kill one at 5 hooks that way, you don't get the penalty. Like this:
Hook surv 1
Hook surv 2
Hook surv 1
Hook surv 2
Hook surv 1. Dead on 5th hook. No penalty because it wasn't two in a row. Instead of hard tunneling it'll just be stagger tunneling. You just can't target one person immediately and hound them to death.
-1 -
What are you talking about? The dev notes clearly say that if a survivor dies before the 6th hook, then the rest of the survivors get a gen speed bonus.
3 -
I'm talking about the no-regression penalty (which is the penalty the person I responded to mentioned), which you can still avoid even if you kill someone at just 5 hooks. It's only hard tunneling that causes this penalty. Hell, you can hook them twice, slug them, hook someone else, then go back and hook the first one again and get no penalty while still tunneling someone out immediately. There are still lots of ways to be cheap.

No usualy first kill is around two gens left sometimes on last gen left and before first kill I have usualy 4-5 hook stages and from patch notes you have to have 6 hook stages before you can get kill so you wont get punished by unregressable gens and gen block perks wont worning Idk if it counts when 6 hook is death hook so you get stack in hook stages and then kill but we will se in ptb. Still this doesnt help much if you get that penalty on 1-2 gens left then its gg because you need to regress those more than on 5 to keep the game going and getting gates because theres nothing you can do to slow the game down slug? not a option after patch and very limited use, tunneling? super bad choice after the patch.

These are two different penalties for two different sets of actions.
The first one is about 6 hooks and gives the remaining survivors a gen speed buff to make up for an early loses of a teammate.
The second one—the gen regression blocking--says nothing about 6 hooks. This comes into affect if you hook someone twice in a row and they die form it. From the way its worded (or lack there of) it can happen at any point in the match, even at the end.
2 -
Killers, go play survivor. ONCE. You'll see the frustration everyone is talking about.
0 -
Yeah forget the 6 hooks requirement was only for gen speed, still gens that cant be damaged or blocked wont go live I believe or it will be locked after some gens are done because people forget how strong is this effect against 3-4 survivors which know how to prerun and push multiple gens you cant do anything about it only try to force them missplay but chances are low and last and probably last option is commit to chase one person but you will lose few gens.
0 -
Someone has to be dead for the regress lock to happen, so you can't have it with 4 survs left.
The wording and the mass of new information is confusing and I think it makes it all seem more extreme than it is, especially since we lack percentages for various effects. We also don't know what the balance between the killer buffs and the survivors buffs will be. The ptb will be useful to clarify. And yeah, this is almost all going to get changed, if not canceled outright.

90 seconds is actually a fast down. I think you forgetting that you need to hit them twice, body blocks, plethora of pallets, perks, etc. Btw now every survivor can just use repair boxes every game.
Every match against a decent mid level survivors you lose 2-3 gens after first chase. So realistically you think any killer is capable of 5 20 seconds downs before he looses every single gen?
No notifications for killer, no information whatsoever. Really, the point of the game is to have certain degree of challenge, basically this patch guarantees a win every game and with good (not even pro survivors) there’s absolutely no chance to win.
Just reading that we can remove this bs patch in custom games is basically accepting that you know that this is too much.
Like I said, sure, is gonna be fun for survivors for a while, that is if there are enough killers mains that are willing to deal with all these effects and rules. After, you will lose most of the new player cause of boredom. As a company you are trying to appeal to new players instead to your established player base that knows how to play and been around for years. Nice going.
Pro tip: existing costumers are more important. 80% of your business comes from 20% of your clients and those know these changes are as dumb as it gets.0 -
My experience differs quite a bit. My personal win-trajectory goal is 2 hooks before first gen and I manage that often. And I'm very average. I recently had a killer chase me for three gens. When they popped, he DCed. You can't chase that long. You need to keep people off gens.
This "killers will lose every match" narrative is just not true. The only high mobility killer I play is Dracula and I do fine without tunneling and slugging, and I'll keep doing fine. I'll do better, cause I'm getting buffs.
A lot of people are unhappy with the survivor experience. There's too much misery, too much loss of agency, and too many unskilled killers securing 4ks with these tactics. The game needs a refresh.

Clearly you haven’t played killer enough then. Once you leave the comfort zone mmr things become rough. Anyone who plays killer enough can testify for this.
Talking to survivors or forum players is a waste of time, that’s why I direct my criticism directly to BH.DBD: The “horror game” where the most iconic killers play by a rule book, get penalized for killing so survivors don’t feel bad.
Changing a winning formula is most of the time a dumb move. Game needs balance. 95% of the killer roster needs buffs and they keep implementing nerfs that factually make the mid / low level killers unplayable. This is like changing the flavor of coke. Historically dumb move.
Fact: Good survivors have everything to win every match. This is not a debate. Proven by:
1- Competitive. Every match is played the same way. Face camp and tunnel is needed even with top tier killers.
2- In pro play they have to implement nerfs to survivors so killers have a chance unless they are playing nurse or blight.
3- 90-95% of the killers are considered weak and more like a novelty with a lower tier power compared to the S tier killers. Game is not balanced correctly.
4- Survivors lose games when their team is just chilling, messing around or new to the game. If all 3 survivors are playing to their objective while the fourth is getting chased, they will complete 3 gens in the first 2 minutes of a game. There’s a plethora of second chance perks and now they get base kit overpowered perks allowing even more efficiency.
5- BH doesn’t play their own game. The laziness is astonishing. A huge metal bar during the whole walking dead patch proves they didn’t play a single game before release, creating the worst patch to ever go live with game breaking bugs.
6- Adding the “remove this rules” in custom games proves they know that when survivors play with half a brain cell it would kill competitive.Really this is not a healthy update. It’s a mess guided by feelings instead of what’s possible to achieve, without a sense of progress, players quit. My god.

60 to 90 seconds for one chase is a bad chase, not a good chase. The average chase time at high MMR was determined to be 70 seconds per Survivor. Not per chase, meaning downing a Survivor 3 times requires you to spend 70 seconds for it in total at high MMR.
If you need 60 to 90 seconds for ONE chase while 70 seconds for three chases is the average, even with 60 seconds (your lowest number) this one chase would be almost 3 times as long as the average at high MMR.
1 -
no you have to bounce between 2 and hook 2 others since the 6 hook penalty is still a thing
0 -
You realize there's also plenty of banned killer perks, killer add-ons, killer tactics, and even whole killers in competitive DBD leagues, yes? Both sides get things turned off in competitive DBD.

This response was about the no-regression penalty, which is seperate from the survivor speed boost. You don't get the no-regression from someone dying before 6 hooks, you get it from them dying by two hookings in a row. Two different actions, two different penalties.

I play survivor about half the time. I personally think all the complaining about the survivor experience is way overblown. My lifetime escape rate is about 43%, and I am totally fine with that. I think it should be relatively difficult to escape in a horror game. Tunneling and slugging don’t happen nearly as often as many people claim, at least in my personal experience. In most of my matches, if someone is being tunneled, I just keep working on gens and usually we get 2-3 out. If I’m being tunneled, I do my best to buy as much time as I can for the team to do gens and often times they all get out even if I die.
The biggest problem BY A MILE in solo queue survivor is the matchmaking. I am not exaggerating when I say that I get brand new players (<50 hours) thrown into my lobbies every single time I log in to play. When I get experienced teammates who know basic looping and don’t immediately leave gens to hide in a corner when they hear a terror radius even though they can see someone else is being chased, the match is almost always fun and competitive.
Survivor side if very winnable if you know how to play the game and have teammates who also know how to play the game.0 -
Like I said biased and imposible to get into survivors thick skull.
This patch effectively kills Sadako, Trapper, and basically every weak killer out there. (Who represent 90% of the whole killer roster). The patch destroys lore, playstyle and any reward for actually playing well as killer.
Us as players and killer mains, after thousands of hours playing the game (unlike BH) we developed as a community a way to handle the current balance of the game, we realized that a tactic is to slug, a tactic is to tunnel a player. Why? Is not because we want to be evil or annoy survivors, it’s because otherwise there is no competition and no thrill and no progress. We need to aspire to win and be efficient, not just mess around and play around as a npc to entertain survivors, assuring they escape every game.
How many second chances exist right now? How many pallets are there? Perks that allow you to stand up, not get tunneled, healing faster or just repair at an incredible speed. It’s posible now to heal a survivor fully in 5 seconds.
Btw, in competitive killers are not “banned” because they are strong, it’s because in some formats teams pick and decide which they playing. For example Nurse is not handicapped in any way, just allows survivors to use any perk and item. Namely a normal match.I don’t even care anymore, there’s not a single example of something implemented by BH and being well received or even viable. They need to hire real players and actually learn to listen. I’m shocked that after finally sponsoring competitive and seeing how those matches go, they didn’t get at least a bit deterred from all these changes.
Im out. Keep saying to yourself this is a healthy move. Duh

funny part in these normal comp matches the nurse still tunnels and slugs because they can't really win otherwise
1 -
I know man, I just can’t believe they pushing this mess of a patch. They get so many base kit perks that they can all run efficiency perks, gens are going to go even faster and every survivor will use repair boxes.
They are killing any possibility of freedom to play the game with the terrible existing balance. Most killers are weak and forgotten for YEARS. They basically saying: play how we want you to play, forget about our killer roster and just play the same 3 killers over and over again, that is if you want to win. They basically want to make the killer role an entertainment, they removing depth etc.
I don’t know what they were thinking.0 -
i think the last time we saw a dev go against some survivors for us to see the dev got bullied to death an got 0 hooks. Don't think we have seen the devs play for us since.
