White Ward doesn't protect against losing add-ons

Lost my last gel dressings despite having white ward equipped. Is it because I used ESC key to abandon when given the option?

Yup, abandoning loses you your items and add ons, regardless of offerings.

I feel white ward should also work on Abandon, it's the point of the offering after all

You need to die for the offering to work.
Should indeed work with the abandon. This is much like the old key add-on that let you keep it in case you die, but, again, you need to die and when you abandon you ended up losing the key.-1 -
Just to add that you also need to have the item in question on your hand when you die. If its on the ground somewhere then you don't keep the add-ons.
